I feel like anytime Smant gets invited to do a Pokémon race, it’s never “who’s the fastest”, but instead “who comes in second and how far ahead in first is Smant”.

I just analyzed and fixed the bug.
It turned out that unnecessarily talking to that Onix after having solved the first room did reset the room, but not the game state (which already had the room cleared). By solving the first room again (with deactivated NPCs btw) the game thought the second room was already clear when he entered that.

It’s a cool concept but this video is nearly impossible to follow. I don’t think you can compress a multiple hour event done by 4 people into 18 minutes without it feeling like a lot is being lost. Where are most of these pokemon from? Why was finding a poke ball a big deal when it seems like people just have however many pokemon they need? Why does flygon have pokemon below his gameplay? I’m so lost :(

    • @Whacko2
      @Whacko2  2 месяца назад +22

I definitely chopped up some of the cave puzzle, so there are chunks missing there. The 18 minutes part was tough. I just rewatched so I could think about this comment, and I definitely think I presented the information you're asking about BUT that doesn't mean I couldn't have been clearer!
Everyone started with Sableye and Mantyke. I do explain how each Pokemon is acquired after that, but would happily answer questions if you need clarification. Finding the Pokeball does get a little lost in its purpose, but it was for the Remoraid in the pond!
Also, Flygon had just finished playing another game, and those pokemon on the screen were his team for that haha. Had nothing to do with this escape room.
Anyways, I really appreciate your feedback, and totally accept the criticism, as this was my first edit for the channel in a LONG time. Thank you for checking it out anyways!!

$350 for 1st, $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd is even funnier when you look at it in terms of $$/hr!
1st, 2nd and 3rd final times were 1:46:10, 3:02:59, and 5:12:47 respectively. Although 20 minutes was added to 3rds time from using a hint meaning his actual in game time was really 4:52:47.
Therefore each participants hourly rate was as followed:
    1st- $197.80 /hr
    2nd- $32.79 / hr
    3rd- $10.25 / hr
To put why I found this interesting enough to spend an hour doing math on my iPhone calculator and writing this: 1st made 6x in terms of $$/hr compared to 2nd, while only making 3.5x as much money as 2nd! What’s even more wild is that 1st made 19.3x what 3rd made in $$/hr despite only making 7x 3rd’s total $$!!! Finally, although somewhat anticlimactic, 2nd received 3.2x 3rd in $$/hr but only 2x in total $$.
Prob wasn’t worth my time or your time reading this so I in hind sight apologize…

8:57 I'm almost halfway through the video. I didn't get to see the cave puzzle at all nor the revelations of competitors as they figure out how to solve other puzzles. Often, just 1 was showcased.
Additionally, i am having trouble following the process for the Wonder Guard fight. The inserted clip of Smallant has him talking to his audience, who has probably seen him fail this fight before and has context. I have no idea why he's doing anything.
I understand you didn't want to make the video overly long, but I feel like so much content was cut that is impacting the viewing experience for a viewer not familiar with this escape room.
Edit: finished the video. A lot was also cut between the braille pokedex and Archie.
Overall good video. I think it could be improved with more footage

Thank you for the feedback Zack!!
I think I did a good job showcasing the runners and their personalities/fun moments, but failed to show the solutions to the puzzles the way I think people wanted to see them. I guess I just thought people would want to check out the actual Escape Room on their own? But I've come to the conclusion that those people probably didn't watch the video until after they tried it anyways, and those that didn't have time to try it on their own would have loved to have been a part of the brilliant strategies that these individuals came up with, which I could have provided by showing it on screen.
I'll be more cautious of that with the next Escape Room video I do. Again, I really appreciate the feedback.

@@julesvr5205he is (at the time of me posting this comment), 4 badges into his first Run and Bun Nuxlocke attempt.
Plus he has also done quite a bit ofkaizo ironmon.
His main reasoning for not doing nuzlockes is he doesnt really see much of a challenge in it, as his brain works them out like puzzles just like an escape room for instance. The repitiveness is why he doesnt frequently do nuzlockes, but instead finds new challenges, such as escape rooms or challenge runs that randomize your team after every battle or a romhack where every rng thing is stacked against you, etc. Nuzlockes become too predictible when you get to the point where you can read the ai as if it was a notebook and that isnt as much fun for him.

@@Whacko2 I urge you to watch PointCrow’s recent Pokémon escape room video. Every puzzle is thoroughly explained and the process of deduction is well documented.
You never explain how SmallAnt skipped the puzzle. You didn’t show each player finding the first pokeball so I have to assume. You showed the solution to the Rhyhorn puzzle 3 minutes into the video and then completely gloss over the puzzle entirely 7 minutes later (I still have no clue what the players ACTUALLY did to solve that one). Your explanation of the solution to the final double assumes a strong baseline of Pokémon knowledge (how many casual viewers know mold breaker) and lacks a visual aid.
It genuinely feels like I wasted my time watching this video. Great content idea but the video itself feels like a minimally edited livestream.

      @Whacko2  Месяц назад +1

I made deliberate decisions with editing! I've explained in a couple other comments why I made the decisions I did, but here are my thoughts:
      - I edited this to showcase my friends' skills, and didn't really intend on breaking down how each obstacle worked within the race! This is because I was worried about spoiling the solutions if people wanted to try it out themselves. I realize now that this was a mistake, as people want to see solutions, so that will be better in upcoming escape room videos!
      - This was my first edit on the channel, so there were flaws and things I had to work on! I had 48 hours to turn this from footage into a video, and released something I was proud of. I have to live with the result haha!
As for your comment about casual viewers needing more info, I think that's something that I should have considered as well! I'm so used to putting out hardcore nuzlocke content, and I think more casual pokemon enjoyers deserved to be able to engage in this.
I would appreciate if your words were kinder and more constructive than just "you do a terrible job of telling stories". Still, I am grateful you watched the video and hope you stick out the next one

@@Whacko2 Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed explanation of your thought process.
      1. Admittedly, I hadn't considered that some people may want to try the puzzle themselves. However, I'd imagine those people would simply avoid watching the video so a detailed breakdown would make for an entertaining video.
      2. My mistake! I saw that the channel already had 50k+ subscribers and a steady stream of viewers so I expected a higher quality of video. It was dumb of me to be so demanding.
      3. Again, I wasn't familiar with your usual content so my comments were misplaced. Even still, I think being more friendly to casual enjoyers would make for more widely engaging content.
I SINCERELY apologize for how rude I was in my original comment. I was very frustrated because I spent tons of time OUTSIDE of the video to figure out how each puzzle worked (especially the double battle solution). I may enjoy Pokemon escape room videos but I took this too seriously. I'll try to be kinder and not let my frustrations out on fellow creators.
