Forget this!! I have a hurricane outside my house (In Florida). You teach so well..I am joining you right now. You are a blessing. Schools don't always get it done for people like me, but your experience and manner stokes my desire to learn. Thank you so much! You are a gem.
Funny, but when I was studying music back in the early 80s, I could, and had to, practice for hours. These days I just can’t sit that long, nor do I find any pleasure in such intense practicing. I wonder if other folks in their 60s have a similar experience?
Just by hearing your chord choices in these snippets of tunes like "All the Things You Are," I know it would be a pleasure to hear you in a full concert.
I'm a jazz and classical guitarist in my 4th decade of exploration... this and other episodes of your content are both refreshing and invaluable corpuscles. Thank you. I enjoy learning how others experience music.
Amazing video! Thank you so much for all these different resources. As a beginner/intermediate pianist its nice to have some regiment to not just feel like im noodling endlessly
Wow. Thank you soo much!! I've been playing in churches for years but never understood the art of jazz before watching your videos. I love it!! Keep up the great work 🎉
Love your teaching. Please can you display your finger movement on the piano instead of colour code movement alone. So we can see your fingers technique
3:47 I agree that it is such a nice sound. Tight m6ths and diminisheds are so much fun to play and just enjoy the sound of. Loved it ever since I heard those old tunes that have the horns playing in that formation. Tight blocks with plenty of 6ths, delicious
Really love this! You’ve got a relaxed and very inviting teaching style and that practice sheet you put together is golden! Thanks for the effort. Hope the best for you and your channel!!
I am thrilled to witness this teaching. I appreciate the female spirit in jazz! I gained so much insight from this small snippet of instruction. Look forward to more. Thank you!
Thanx so much, those block chords transports me the Harlem renaissance… 1nce again thanks for the generous resource of your time and knowledge…in your booklets .
Hello Thembi, this is a very good encapsulation of what really is important here. bravo. The little offramps - such as bebop scales, chord tones scales are like little "click to see mores" . Firming up the knowledge while always keeping the big picture in mind (your 3 points). Practice is practice and playing is playing. but sometimes you can do a little of both!
Hey great video practice that I’ll start to use now. I have a small advice for you which I discovered when I accidentally chop of my pedal cable but it helped me you can try to practice without pedal also
I'm 20 seconds in. Your speaking voice and accent tickle my brain! I hope the information is good and I learn something, but I have a feeling I'm gonna watch the whole thing for that first reason alone 🥰
Very nice - thank you - gotta love sharp 11, diminished maj7 chords, and super locrian! You may be optimistic about having 3 hrs to practice ... I love how you sing with yourself - that's an important basic so many don't get told.
Hope you see this Ms, very informative and quality video so thank you for that! But also could u please tell me how you write on the screen for ur videos as I am trying to create my own content as well to preach
@@thembelihledunjana Well you were very clear so perhaps you fall into the category that not only can you play you can teach with clarity too. Too many teachers are good at what they do but can’t simplify it across to others. A bit like a school maths teacher that’s good at what he does but not very good at teaching it or illustrating it across to his students. I guess when a master doesn’t mean you are a master at teaching. Anyway, can’t wait for your course as I play the piano a lot and love it (self taught). I was wondering, will your course encompass improvisation techniques? Can’t wait! 😃
Sorry to put this question here but why you play the Bb and sound the A natural? Something is really wrong to match the video with sound that cames from the piano, And in the first Scale the fingers don't do the same scale.
Hey. Is there a description for what is contained inside your “I wish I learned this at Jazz school” booklet? I’m not a complete beginner so trying to decide if it’s useful for me. Love you videos
Hi Alex. Thank you. The main purpose of the booklet is to help the learner understand where chords come from. So practicing scales as chords (in all 12 keys). Thereafter we do 3-note voicings over tune “Misty”, then choosing the right tensions for the tune. Lastly I speak about the importance of shell voicings as a fundamental for jazz players. This is covered over 3 modules and includes a video for more clarification.
Thank you. The thing is I am not sure of what material to use if i´m a beginner in the jazz techniques. I would like to get like an all-in-one book or something, just to get started in jazz, what would you recommend?
The Mark Levine jazz piano book is a good place to start, I used it a lot to teach as well… Alternatively I do also have a booklet for beginners that you can check out in the description.
I know you didn't ask me for my opinion 😊 but as I said in my comment, I've been playing for years... your hands and fingers are just like the rest of the body, requiring stretching and exercise (i.e., movement. I wish you well 😊
Practice everything within 1 hr: 20 mins of technique material; 20/20 for the other two categories. Alternatively: 1 hr of technique Monday, 1hr of cognitive playing on Tuesday, and 1hr of playing on Wednesday. Then repeat

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy it.

Lovely 🤎💜🤎
I am Lost..can you hv all that in a book for practice?
That sounds soooooo good !!!
hey mzala 🙂 you play beautifully.
someone needs to make a quartertone piano that spans the entire room
Hope you see this Ms, very informative and quality video so thank you for that! But also could u please tell me how you write on the screen for ur videos as I am trying to create my own content as well to preach

Cool💯
Awesome
Thank you
Sure
thats great ! thank you !! as a long term intermediate student self taught im always looking more interesting ways to pracrice
Eso es todo barry harris….
What beautiful chords she is playing that keyboard is not doing her beautiful playing justice. It would be sick on an upright piano.
Waiting for you to do a beginner course as I think you make a lot of sense. I'm not sure if PDFs are useful for befinner stage as can be very random.
Course coming soon🫶
The video definitely wasn’t for the beginner

Is there a rule to the fingerings or it doesn't matter which fingers one uses??
Thanks so much for your videos! Do you still give lessons online?
Not at the moment no💯
I've never played jazz so I got lost after a few minutes, can you suggest a place to start from basics? Thanks!
Here is a easy follow along of where to start: ruclips.net/video/m3Mk-_SNF5A/видео.htmlsi=kCOWTwWiVrEQUBpS🫶🎹

I'm a beginner and I really love jazz music. But where do I start from?

whats the barry harris major movement
Can u breakdown how you're doing those diatonic major arpeggios? I tried to slow down the playback speed, but it didn't help.
I’m playing each chord within the major scale as an arpeggio up to the 7th, in an up and down motion. Does that make sense,
@thembelihledunjana Yes, that makes sense. We're you using the f scale on those diatonic arpeggios? Or was it Bb?
@DJlamoun F major

I stopped my daily practice due to finger pain. It’s been 3 months and I am still mot 100%. Any advice?
I’m not an expert in pain/ injuries but I would probably let that hand rest and practice with the hand that has no pain
I hope the finger heals soon🫶
I know you didn't ask me for my opinion 😊 but as I said in my comment, I've been playing for years... your hands and fingers are just like the rest of the body, requiring stretching and exercise (i.e., movement. I wish you well 😊
