I really wish we had one closer to us. The nearest one, is about 45 minutes away.

I remember the Steak ‘n Shake in Lynchburg. Always got good food there. Wish the restaurant was still there. Think y’all made a good decision when stopping in. Food looked yummy. Good food at a reasonable price.

We miss the Steak 'n Shake in Lynchburg too. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. We actually got out at JT Hannahs and were in line to put our name on a list. Then I thought about Steak 'n Shake so we headed there. It's really a good option when you are eating later. We had been to Dollywood and left near closing. So it was definitely a good decision. I've heard of Steak N Shake before. Now, if they'd only come to Texas, I would definitely check them out. I think it would be a wonderful dinner or lunch! ❤
According to Google Steak 'n Shake is in 33 states and there are 185 international locations. We have 4 in Virginia (none near me). I did see that Texas does have some too, including a 24 hour Steak 'n Shake in Midland. Looks like they are mostly concentrated around the Dallas area. I had to look up how many there were after so many people told me they didn't have one or the one near them closed.

We love Steak n Shake! Unfortunately we don't have one anywhere near us either. So we only get some Steak n Shake on the road. But it is worth the wait. And well worth the reasonable price. I am not a fan of ordering on kiosk screens either but that trend seems to be growing. Thanks for sharing your review!
It's always a welcome to sight to see a Steak 'n Shake sign when traveling. I think you are right about the kiosk trend growing. Restaurants also promote their apps big time which is the exact same process as the kiosk if you order on the app. Hope you get to Steak 'n Shake soon!

I do not mind ordering from kiosks. My orders are served correctly. The size of sides are HUGE. The food looked great.

Definitely delicious. There were lots of employees there but the cashier is the one that usually welcomes you. I agree that it is impersonal. If I ran a business I would want every customer to know that they were appreciated and their business mattered. Thanks for watching!
And a stroll down memory lane and boy do I miss the Steak n Shake location in Lynchburg! My absolute favorite was the Garlic Double Steak Burger hands down and I believe you could get your fries with select seasonings and would get them Cajun style or either plain and add tons and tons of that fry seasoning that stuff was the cream of the crop when it came to seasonings! Thank you friends for sharing this and taking me down memory lane! Y'all rock as always!

Good looking Steak 'n Shake. The problem we have when traveling is there service. They are always so slow. I agree with David 100% on self ordering. I just want to eat there not work there. Prices were great for that area. God Bless and safe travels.
We have had slow service at Steak 'n Shakes before too. However our service on this evening was good. Other than having to put your own order in. lol David hates having to do that. Just like he doesn't like self-checkouts. He always asks the employees at Walmart about his W2. He asks when should he expect for it to arrive in the mail.

Wow, been a long time since I've been to steak n shake also, I'm not sure if it's just this location, but I remembered having wait staff take orders and bring food. I remembered the burgers being good and being impressed by the chili.
I believe most or all locations have switched over to you doing the order yourself. We prefer giving our order to a staff member. The burgers are really good. I have not tried the chili there but will have to on our next visit. Thanks for watching!

I agree with David's closing comments. Unfortunately, when the "wage bill" of a business is its biggest expense, you can be assured that the business will do everything it can to reduce it. "Wage bill" is more than just what the employee is actually paid. Add in employment-related taxes and benefits and you can quickly have employees being paid more than their economic value. I hate being political, but this is what you get when you have political candidates promising their loyal voters the moon, the stars, and the eleven planets if they get into office. Regarding the kiosks, think about how many fewer workers that restaurant has as a result of the individual employee costs being so high. Think for a moment about the people willing to work who are unemployed as a result. Sorry for the soapbox. As for the review, you made me miss Steak ;n' Shake all the more! Their food has always been first-rate. The food and their hours have made them a longtime legend among railfans. Next time I'm in PF, I'm stopping here! And David... One night years ago when I was in Dallas on business, I went with some friends to supper at a rather upscale steakhouse. First, you got to choose your steak from a variety of raw cuts presented to you. And, then you did have to cook it yourself! Alas, I don't recall the name of it now. But, it was within sight of the studios of WFAA-TV. This was decades ago. And, when engineers are in a group at dinner/supper, the youngest gets to be the Designated Driver. And, I was the second eldest. Great review. (As usual...! ) Hang in there! And, God Bless!
The benefits that an employer has to pay can be very expensive for an employer. If you think just about health insurance costs, it's a lot. I have heard of restaurants like that before where you cook your own meat. Of course if you go to fondue you cook your own meat there too and fix your own meal once they place the different pots in front of you. Of course you are going to those types of places for that experience.
Our local McDonalds has a kiosk but they also have a crew member there to take your order if you prefer. Thanks for watching!
After watching a lot of reviews on RUclips, including your great review I wish I had tried Steam n Shake before they closed down in the Pittsburgh area All three of your meals looked fantastic and the prices were very reasonable. Like the skinny fries as long as there hot and crispy. David's onion rings were a good upcharge for 1.99. Plenty of them and looked golden brown and crispy. When you showed the menu at the beginning, I noticed they had a large variety of shakes, Carly seemed to enjoy her's. Hope someday I'm near a Steak n Shake so I can try one. I've always liked Steak 'n Shake. We first tried it when traveling to Florida. The food has never disappointed. The only issue we have ever had is with the service. However on the night we went here the service was good. We got our food shortly after ordering. The skinny fries are great. But you are right you want them hot.
They have great shakes and lots of flavors. I thought my meal for $5.99 was definitely a good deal. David said next time he would get what I got instead of the combo with the drink because it was such a good deal. Of course he will upgrade to onion rings. lol

Steak n Shake has always had some of the best burgers around and I go to mine in Rolla Mo. quite often, and they always have a good variety of different types of burgers as you can see by the menu - not just the usual three/four like Burger King/ McD's! If ya'll ever see a Jack in the Box stop in and do a review, they're also good about having a good variety of things on their menu - their egg rolls are literally the best egg rolls you'll ever eat.
We will definitely keep our eyes open for a Jack in the Box. We have never been to one before. We have always been pleased with the food from Steak 'n Shake. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😃
Haven't been to Steak n Shake in a long time. Two of three locations nears is have closed. I believe the one in Greensboro is still open? I'm guessing you and David both don't do ketchup ? Glad Carly knows what a great choice of shake is best in cookies n cream !
Unfortunately quite a few locations have closed. I Googled it and we only have 3 left in Virginia. Of course they are not near us. We eat ketchup on our fries and onion rings but not burger. Carly loves cookies and cream shakes and ice cream. Hope you and Ginger have a great weekend. ❤️

I have always loved some Steak N Shake. It is kind of sad to see some of the stores close. They started in Illinois not far from where I grew up. I remember back in the 60s Steak N Shake in Danville, Illinois was the high dollar burger place. It is or was very good. I do like it better before the pandemic when they waited on you at the table and served your food on china plates.

A lot of the steak and shakes closed down in Pennsylvania Delaware and Maryland and New Jersey I think you have to go out near Pittsburgh to go to one now
They seemed to have closed a lot down. I know most in Virginia closed down. It's really a great option for affordable fast food. Pittsburgh is far from you. Hope you are good!
