The indications for chest tube insertion
❖ Hemothorax (collection of blood)
❖ Hemopneumothorax (accumulation of air and blood in the pleural space)
❖ Thoracotomy (e.g., open heart surgery, pneumonectomy)
❖ empyema (collection of pus)
❖ Pleural effusion
Chest tubes will be inserted to facilitates Re-expansion of the collapsed lung
The Insertion of chest tube (thoracostomy or thoracentesis) shall be performed by a physician (with privileges) or under supervision of the consultant, with the assistance of a Staff.
The Chest tubes are sterile flexible catheters
