Making a Chess Board // Bucket List Woodworking Project

- Chess boards and woodworking go hand-in-hand. What woodworker doesn't think about making a chess board at one time or another? Ever since I started woodworking, I wanted to make a chess board. It was on my bucket list of woodworking projects. If a worldwide pandemic quarantine isn't a great time to hunker down and work on that woodworking bucket list, I don't know what is. Join my two youngest shop buddies and I as we relive my months long journey to build my first chess board.

Thanks, Jeff! I’ve been super busy out of the shop, so it will still be slim pickings from me for a while. This project started almost exactly a year ago. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to get the video of the chess pieces done next!

This Chess Board turned out beautiful. I judge from the different shirts you wore it took several days to finish the project. By the way The White Lab t shirt is pretty cool.

I'm working on mine soon, now im trying to cnc my chess pieces one side at a time , BOY what a learning cure!! The kid was a great touch. Good job!
I’m a little confused. When you go to cut the dados for the frame around the board, you show the board horizontal adjusting the blade to your mark. But that’s not the way you ended up cutting the dado.
Would the measurement be the depth of the dado you cut on the chess board? Kind of confusing to type out.

I have also stopped using my bandsaw for resawing thin boards. Now I put a circular saw blade in the table saw (thinner kerf) and it works out pretty darn good. Great looking project btw! Nice to see you making videos again
