I am a firm believer in pots with drainage for my plants. No rocks on the bottom for my plants. Also, agree on the root bound term. I was bad about cleaning leaves in the past but I’m better now. It definitely makes a difference.
Another great video! I am from the "ALWAYS put rocks in the bottom of pots for drainage" generation. Although I no longer do that, it always makes me smile when I repot a new plant and see drainage material on the bottom because I know they are old-school.😄 Your explanation was very helpful on that matter. The whole not touching plants thing is hilarious, and "Plant Petter" would make a fun T-shirt! ❤
Oh thank you so much Jaclynn for a really great video with some great advice and suggestions on how to care for your plants and what you shouldn't be doing to them as well. I remember a long time ago when I had a fern and I would mist it once in awhile because I thought it needed the extra humidity, but then I learned that is not always the case and I really haven't misted any of my plants since I just use a humidifyer. I also agree that dusting your plants is a good thing to always remember. and when I see your plants I notice that they always look so beautiful and clean. I do like to touch my plants from time to time and some people ask me if I talk to my plants and I do that a lot, I feel like a plant just knows if you care about it or not. Thanks again Jaclynn for a wonderful video, I hope that you have a great weekend, stay safe and happy, say hi to David, sending love and hugs, bye! 🤗😍👋👍🙏😻💜💜💜
i actually would like more of this style video because there is alot information that come at you as your trying to learn about plants and i trust what you say and a few others but i like learning what will make my small collection thrive.
I'm always happy to help! There's so much info out there it can be hard to sift through it all and discern what's good or bad advice! It's important to open up these conversations so we can all learn from each other 😊
I like this style of video. Nice to see the larger "Plant Fam" working together. Not everyone is going to agree on everything but it is nice to hear varying opinions. Have a great weekend!
Hello Jaclynn, beside watering my plants, I also use a foliage spray which also feeds the plants. Haven't had any issues. Only use the foliage spray once a month.
Yes, I had the same thing happen with my one fiddle leaf fig. But what's weird is that they go from the grower onto a truck for days on a bumpy ride to be dropped off say Lowe's and then the temperature there might be different than they had it but they survive the move. But we can't move them in a different room in our own home.....what gives? I am laughing about the touching of plants. I have always been a touchy feeling type of person with most everything in my life. I have to touch a plant to feel the leaves before I buy it. When I try on clothes at the store I have to feel the material next to my skin. Feeling is part of the process of maybe making a purchase in my opinion. Besides, how else do you clean their leaves if you don't touch them......crazy! Yes, do more videos like this one, Jaclynn....thank you!
Right? I finally gave in and bought one, on clearance, because I liked the pot and expected it to die. It is still perfectly alive - never dropped a single leaf. I give up.
100% agree with misting plants does not up humidty and 100% agree that touching plants will kill them is and old wives tale , I use to mist my plants and I found it did noting and sometimes it would kill the leaves of certain plants , once I started using a humidifier for my plants it was a game changer , they all love it.
My Ficus triangularis drops 90% of its leaves a couple of times a year lol. She does really well on my front porch in the summer. Then in she comes for the winter and there goes the leaves.
the reason you don’t want to put plants into pots too large for their root ball is because the soil will never dry out enough :) in the wild, water drains completely away from the roots because it has infinite room. but when you just have a big pot of soil with a little bitty plant, that soil is going to take way too long to dry out for that little root system to handle. they’ll rot! :)
It’s scientifically accepted that touching plants set off stress responses in the plants. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though as it also makes your plants more resistant to stress. Obviously plants in nature get touched all the time, whether it’s insects, animals, people, the wind brushing them against other plants, rain, etc. Its also a big reason why plants in nature are not perfect looking.
@@jaclynns.jungle I used a link he had to the moisture meter that he purchased. I was just about to place the Amazon order from his link until I saw price £9 🤣
If roots are coming out bottom towards water.....(how do i word this?) Shud i gently pull it out of pot an place roots so they not coming out of the bottom an resting in any water? Did i say where u kno wat im talking bout? Lol. I do try make sure there no excess water
Ya found that out! 🤣 id taken out an put lil more soil in bottom. Coming thru again now. I just make sure too much soil doesnt remain so not to rot em. I usually gently lift up an down to make sure most has drained out. Determined lil buggers they are!
The repotting up-potting thing hasn't really made any sense to me because out in nature, existence in a pot is not the norm for most plants. Pots and planters were invented for our convenience. There are no such constraints out in the wild... so don't up pot? I think it's alright if what you want to make the pot proportional for the size of the plant esthetically. As for touching, there are times when touching is necessary as when examining for insects and pests and cleaning. There is no way around it.
The issue with putting a plant in too big of a pot is that the soil stays too moist for too long. There's not enough roots to use it and they can rot this way. In nature the plants are not confined to a pot, so the moisture can go someplace else.

Do you agree with these 6 things?

I'm learning to be better at cleaning the leaves!! 😊
I do agree,👍 + misting is also bad for the humidity on furniture around the plant, that on wood becomes mould!
💚🌵🌱☘️💚
It certainly can be! I reccomend sealed wood or cedar if you're going to have plants nearby!

My mom still uses the damn rocks no matter how many times I try to tell her 🤣

That's different from misting! You're fine ☺

I'll never understand lol
I totally agree with the 6 things plant s hate.I also touch my plants ball the time I live touching them.
Petting the leaves is half the fun!

Love Sheffield Made Plants!
Definitely an interesting channel!
Thank you Jaclynn
For the most part I agree except I will be touching some leaves though 😅
Leaf petter for life! 😅🙋🏻♀️

My benjamina has done this and I'm so annoyed! I've kept it well watered and didn't move it at all!!
What do you think about leaf shine on the plants.
Totally fine! You wipe it off! Misting with water and letting it stand on leaves is just inviting problems!!
The Sheffield guy has great videos - very educational.
For sure!! Great for beginners!
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
Touchy feely is me too. How do you clean the leaves without touching?
🤷🏻♀️
Plants love soft Classical music and plant music made especially for them, it stimulate the roots to grow, but avoid 808 vibrational music.
Hopefully they also like heavy metal, because that's what I listen to 🤣🤣
HAHAHA. You leaf petter you!!! ❤😂
Other than that EXOTICA looking A M A Z I N G, thank you. 🌱❤️🌱❤️🌱
She's a classic!

For sure! That's why I added that in when I was editing! Sometimes I forget to mention things when I record 😊
I have to touch my plants, too!
What is the hoya next to the blue crab pot? I have a mystery hoya and yours is the closest I've seen to it. Thanks!
That's the Hoya Mathilde ☺💕
Thank you. I bought it as a Krimson Queen, but the leaves are smaller, rounder, darker, and more textured than one I just got in a rescue box. 🤷♀️
Me watching this video while misting my monstera 😂
Girl don't do it haha! It doesn't need it I promise! Get a humidifier! Your plants and your skin will thank you!

If you want to! They'll come back out again though if water is left standing at the bottom.
Ya found that out! 🤣 id taken out an put lil more soil in bottom. Coming thru again now. I just make sure too much soil doesnt remain so not to rot em. I usually gently lift up an down to make sure most has drained out. Determined lil buggers they are!
No touching without consent 🫵
How can you not touch the leaves of the Peperomia Incana.
I know right?! So fuzzy!
Your make up 💚
