@Delaney elena never chose to have her humanity off, she was forced to do it and everyone forgets that. Caroline chose to even with Elena's warning that she'll regret it and she didn't heed her warning. She just thought elena was being selfish. Stefan was forced to shut it off by klaus too otherwise he wouldn't have shit it off. He did in the past and he had regrets about that. Caroline could have learned from them. Also Caroline forced him to shut off his humanity so once again it wasn't by choice
