    Spain is different, there is no doubt! All their women's and men's basketball teams of any age have been on the podium this summer in the championships they have participated in. They have young talents whom they pamper, care for and let mature to gradually incorporate them when they are ready. This is not a coincidence, they are hard workers, they fight for the team even though they are stars of this sport, a star does not win championships, a team does win them. Spain was very short of players due to injuries or other circumstances, but they put on that shirt and give it their all. If I were their rival I would always fear them, they never give up, in the next World Cup there will be recovered players and young talents ready to play, they may or may not win, but the team that wants to beat them will have to suffer a lot.

  • @sergiomontes2568

    Escariolo is the key master only because his players let him so. Escariolo explained after winning the gold that it was extremely easy for him and the technical staff to direct the team this time, they managed to turn the absence of big names, big popular players, into strength, by having instead players that completely lack ego or arrogance. The players were all too willing to just follow whatever instructions the technical team was telling to do, no matter if their role was going to just to defend to exhaustion for a few minutes, or just make blocs and screens... they took whatever role was handed to them to heart, because they took for granted they were no stars... all of them, even Rudy Fernandez has that winning attitude. And it work, of course it did.
    When players have no ego and dont feel entitled to show their stardom... their energy is transfered to the group and whole team becomes the star.

    • @AugustasSuliauskas
      @AugustasSuliauskas Год назад +5

      I agree. In theory, it's easier to coach an underdog team and I believe it helped hugely this year. You could feel the desire of the players to prove others wrong was winning over. So they gave that extra inch every time, they worked a bit harder. Stories likes this motivate you more. Obviously not always they end with the titles, but once you start winning, it becomes extremely hard to stop teams like this.

    Spain has build something else in the past 20 years. It's way more than a golden generation of players with the Gasol Brothers, Navarro, Ricky Rubio, Rudy Fernández etc etc...it's a whole culture.
    We all thought Spain was in a transition period, but these player are here to stay for 5 to 7 years and they have lots more coming, since the under 16 Eurobasket and under 17 world cup teams won silver medals, and under 18 and under 20 teams won both gold Eurobasket medals....and all four tournaments had spanish MVPs:
    Mario Saint-Supery, Izan Almansa and Izan Almansa in both tournaments, and Juan Núñez in under 20 Eurobasket who trained with the national team. Besides that Spain has a 7' 3" 17 years old center that can shoot and pass at elite level called Aday Mara.

However, there might be some issues in the playoff and we could very well see Gobert struggle like how he did in the video, but with KAT alongside him, the coaching staff could work something out, I'm not too sure tho. Its not about the american players. Its about the NBA rules, which don´t allow 3 seconds on the zone, many defenses you can use in FIBA are illegan defense on the nba, and they call faul because of sneezing. Plus the way they pamper their stars with calls. USA has fell on the World cup a few times already. And on the Olympics they have just barely won the last few times. Spain made the second best team in USA history, only surpassed by the original dream team, sweat bullets on 2008 and 2012, spain were up with less than 2 mins left on 2008... Kobe and Wade saved the day with two amazing plays. Whith FIBA Rules, the competition is even and tactics and defense really maters. With NBA rules defending is almost impossible, and they obviouly favour isolation,athleticism and speed, over technique and team play hence they favour american players.

      There is a simple reason, rules. In Spain there's a rule that make ACB coaches not avalaible as national team coach and most of spanish good coaches work as ACB coaches. That's the reason why Aíto García left his job in 2008 (he signed for Zaragoza) o why Scariolo left between 2013-2014 (he signed for Baskonia). Anyway, you must acknowledge Scariolo has a deep conection to Spain. His wife is spaniard (she was a former eurobasket winner for Spain), his son and daughter are spaniards, he has developed most of his carreer in Spain (7 ACB seasons and aditional 11 years as national teacm coach) and has been living here for decades. We don't consider him as foreigner anymore. And to the question about what makes him so special: 10 tournaments with national team-8 medals. He has won 4 out of 5 Eurobasket tournaments and made bronze in the other one. His success ratio is just insane. He can win managing egos in a team full of stars and he can win with a group of role players working as a team.

      Half of the teams that have participated had nationalized players who in many cases had not even lived or played in those countries and do not know how to speak the language. This is how Slovenia won the previous European championship, hiring the American player from Real Madrid, Randolph. Nobody said anything.

    Lol how Spain outclassed everyone when they played only one difficult game...the final... their most difficult game before that was like Lithuania...and Lithuania just lost it.... he all love the fiba tourneys becouse underdogs can win... if u make a normal championship (with less teams)...teams with better players most times will win.... even on the previus Eurobasket format with the double group stage and only one knockout was difficult for underdogs...

      I think you didn't watch the Eurobasket. Germany was a hard game they were a great team, so was Finland (they eliminated Croatia), and so was Lithuania (Spain had to come back from a big point deficit). The thing is Spain was better in the 4th quarters when pressure is higher, that's being clutch and a competitive and confident team.

      That's such a stupid statement. If the Euroleague showed anything is that the favourites weren't favourites because of their teams, but because of the star players. Doncic lost against Poland, Jokic lost against Italy and Gianni's Greece got outplayed by Germany who was later defeated by Spain.
      Feel like people forget that basketball is a team sport and tactics are extremely important. I feel like Spain would have definitely won against the other star packed teams because they know how to play better as a team, despite lacking stars.
