Thanks for taking us along on this trip, looking forward for your next video. Them backstraps look awfully good, now I know where I can get a cook for the Frozen Toe shoot. LOL
Since I hunt to eat what I kill I have zero problem with taking a doe and zero use for those who hunt for trophys and don't eat the meat. But that's just me. I bought a doe tag to go with my anterled tag. My first deer in modern will be with my 6,5x55 Sako 85 but after the first one, buck or doe, is in the freezer it's flintlock all the way. That was a very nice doe you got.
I never pass up a good doe when it's legal, my grandfather always told me that antlers don't taste very good. I shot a doe about that size on opening weekend of muzzleloader season here, she didn't give me the greatest shot either, she was spooked a little bit when she came in so I aimed for her neck and I actually got her a bit high in the head at 50 yards with a 425 grain Minie ball from my .58 Zouave musket. The weather has been screwed up here ever since, mostly in the high 60's so hunting hasn't been that great, except for the squirrels I've been chasing. I still have yet to take one with my flintlock, I've been tuning up and doing some work on my Traditions Kentucky Rifle, reaming out the vent a little to get even quicker ignition but that gun might be what I choose for the fall hunt here in NY.
Your grandfather was right. I find the sights on my Zouave to be too course for good shooting. I do much better with the sights on my flinters from TVM.
Very nice. No reason to apologize for taking that doe, you can't eat antlers. I got a big doe myself on a friend's property in Tioga County on the last day of the early season, using my caplock Cabela's Hawken .50 with a PRB.
No one is condemning you for taking a smaller deer. You are right. It's legal and you made a great shoot. It'll be good eating. and that big doe will have two more fawns this spring. Congratulations on a deer well taken. I've done the same thing.
Never pass up on a good eatin' sized doe! Down here in VA, there are only a few doe days once general firearms comes in anyway so get em while you can!
You and the gun both did great. I got skunked during muzzleloader season here. Saw a total of one doe with a fawn. Got soft and let her go even though they passed me at less than 10 paces. Probably should have taken her because I need at least 3 deer In the freezer. On another note, literally, I love the music! Leaning On The Everlasting Arms. Looking forward to the rest of your hunt. TC
I can never understand why all of these guys want to pack their deer around with all the guts in them,,,get them gutted first thing,,the meat is so much better
In this case I was 1.9 miles in, I didn't want my clothing covered in guts and blood, I had no way to wash it since I was camping.... carried the deer about halfway out, then stopped, and needed to change methods because my shoulders were aching. So I gutted it and put it on a pole and carried it out. I dropped the deer on the spot, it didn't last for any amount of time before I got to it and started carrying it out. A lot of times people wait to go after the deer and until they finally get to it it's been dead a long time. Not in this case. Meat is good, about have it all eaten.

How big is your camper
It's a 24' box.
It's a 2020 Salem Cruise Lite 240BHXL
It looks really spacious for that size
Great hunt and great video Brian! Is that the new rifle?
