I have been waiting for this one! I didn't understand it as a kid. As I grew older, I realized just how clever the lyrics are! It’s great hearing Sylvia again, she has amazing voice, I am glad the people gave her for you to play Amber & Rob. Here is another song “Like nothing ever happened”.
Sylvia had 19 singles on the Country charts in the 1980s. "Tumbleweed" shows off Sylvia's range and has a haunting quality to it. "Snapshot" is similar to "Nobody" in the story line. Actually, I like all of her songs.

Great reaction as always guys. So glad to see somebody react to Sylvia and her song Nobody. What a beautiful woman and talented singer. I had such a huge crush on her as a teen in the 1980s, I had a lot of pictures on my bedroom walls of cool old cars and trucks but only one picture of a woman and it was the one of Sylvia you have on your video.
Anybody hear a little Olivia Newton John in her voice? I've heard this many times before and always thought it was so very cleverly written. Her voice and the music are great, but I always look forward to appreciating the lyrics.
Well, when this song came out, it was at the tail end of the country/pop era ("Urban Cowboy" had just come out 2 years earlier) so that's why the song has such a "pop" feel even though it's "country."
Barbara Mandrell is a must after listening to Sylvia. She was America's Sweetheart for a good while. Such an awesome talent with a truly beautiful voice. I was Country When Country Wasn't Cool (my fav of hers) Sleeping Single in a Double Bed Crackers Woman To Woman Wish You Were Here I don't want to be right Married But Not To Each Other (awesome song) Midnight Angel Angel In Your Arms The Best Of Strangers Fooled By A Feeling Happy Birthday Dear Heartache There's No Love in Tennessee Old Time Rock 'N Roll In Times Like These Standing Room Only The Midnight Oil One Of A Kind Pair Of Fools Only A Lonely Heart Knows
Also check out Suzy Bogguss from this era (Aces, Someday Soon), Kathy Mattea (Where’ve You Been- great story song!) and one of my faves who is way underrated and often overlooked, Nanci Griffith (Love at the Five and Dime, also story song, KM had a hit with it, Trouble in the Fields). Her live versions are best with great intros….
haven't heard this for a long while, was nice to hear. Another female singer that I think you both would like is Terri Gibbs with her song "Somebody's Knockin'". it reminds me of that early 80's country pop, but has more soul than most of that time. And as an aside, Terri is blind....I enjoyed seeing her perform that song.
Glad you finally got to Sylvia. She was the first concert I went to in the 80’s. It was in Anaheim and an outdoor concert and the tickets cost $9.39, this was a radio promo. Afterwards she did a meet and greet and signed autographs. Other songs by her you should check is Drifter, Tumbleweed and Like Nothing Ever Happened. Thanks for posting.
You need to check out Rosanne Cash (Johnny's daughter). She had many classics, but a great place to start would be "The Seven Year Ache." Also great are "I Wonder," "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me," "Blue Moon With Heartache," "What We Really Want," "The Wheel," and her duet with her dad, "September When It Comes."
Such a fun song! Sylvia had a string of hits, her follow up song to this was "The Snapshot", in a similar vein. Amber, a female Friday act you might consider, the Forester Sisters, you'll love their fun hit song, "Men"
I don't know why, maybe because it's a 1 name singer, but Charlene - I've Never Been To Me, is just reminding me of this song. They're nothing alike, but it's making me think of it anyway. I've Never Been to Me, I'd have to give the nudge to, Charlene. They both remind me of 1 hit wonders. Maybe Sylvia was super popular on the country charts, with this song crossing over to the pop charts, thus me never hearing more. That would make sense, especially if people are saying she was great back in the day.
There’s another female artist also known as Silvia , she was a bit of a one hit wonder and I remember that her song “Pillow Talk” was a huge hit in the early 70s. The song was also covered but not commercially released by Janet Jackson.
Sylvia Jane Hutton, an amazing singer! I also love "I Never Quite Got Back (From Loving You), and "Who's Kidding Who." Thanks for reacting to one of my favorites!
I saw her in a private concert when her album was going to be released. It was Sylvia, Janie Fricke and Charlie Pride. I loved Charlie Pride. That was a great concert. Very small audience because it was a fundraiser and the tickets were expensive. Sylvia was beautiful, sang beautifully and really sweet. I totally enjoyed meeting her. I'm glad someone else remembers her.
Stop it! ! This is the third time I've had a song randomly pop I'm my head that I haven't heard in years and then you react to it. I'm kidding about the stop it part. Love the reactions as always. ❤
Some other Sylvia songs to check out: Never My Love, Victims of Goodbye, Snapshot, Fallin' In Love, I Can't Help the Way That I Don't Feel, You Can't Go Back Home., - Just to name a few!
I've been waiting for so long for you to get around to Sylvia. One of the best of the late '70's - '80's country - pop artists. You simply will not find a smoother voice anywhere. She also sings with great emotion. A great rabbit hole to go down. "where In The World" , twenty years after " Nobody", but just as silky smooth. Like time has stood still where her voice is concerned. She is one of my all time favorite singers.
When I was in elementary school, my grandparents took us to a taping of Hee Haw at the Grand ol Opry in Nashville. We got to go backstage, and I was taking tap dancing at that time. I got to tap dance with Roy Acuff, and Sylvia was the talent for that show. I remember telling her how beautiful she was, and she pinched my cheek and told me I was cute. Just a memory that popped into my head while hearing this song.
Thank you for featuring Sylvia! I hope you will check out more of her songs! She had 11 Top 10's on the Billboard Country charts from 1980-1986. "Tumbleweed" #10 (1980) "Drifter" #1 (1981) "The Matador" #7 (1981) "Heart on the Mend" #8 (1981) "Nobody" #1 (1982) "Like Nothing Ever Happened" #2 (1982/83) "Snapshot" #5 (1983) "I Never Quite Got Back (From Loving You)" #3 (1983/84) "Fallin' In Love" #2 (1985) "Cry Just a Little Bit" #9 (1985) "I Love You by Heart" (Duet w/Michael Johnson) #9 (1985/86) A few other noteworthy Sylvia songs are... "Sweet Yesterday" #12 (1982) "Victims of Goodbye" #24 (1984) "Nothin' Ventured Nothin' Gained" #33 (1986)
This song was Sylvia's one and only country-crossover hit in the early 1980s. Not only that this song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Country chart. The song also peaked at the #15 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 as well during the fall of 1982. This song is about a woman's husband might be cheating on her. Kind of a song that Taylor Swift could sing about today.
It was a really popular song, the beat alone was enough to grab listeners…Sylvia’s voice is great…and with those “Motown” style backup vocals…most of us just ignored that it was a song about a gal fighting to keep her cheating guy from Nobody!
Definitely, Country Pop as this song crossover into Billboard Pop charts peaking at #15 in 1982. I remember another crossover country artist Roseanne Cash, Johnny's daughter, around the same time who had a hit "Seven Year Ache". React to that one some time. There is also another Sylvia artist who sings R & B. React to her song "Pillow Talk" sometime on Female Friday. Thanks. 😎

When I was 9 or 10 I had her full LP and every song on it was great and catchy. You're probably thinking, why would a kid that young be listening to a record with adult topics? Well, most kids listened to just about everything back then. If we were young enough a lot of the topics went over our heads and we just liked the way the sound sounded or the beat. This was in 1980 or 1981. Don't worry so much about what your kids are exposed to, because most of the time how you perceive it is not how your child perceives it. They won't understand what it's about until their much older. We played a song in my marching band called: Smoke on the Water but didn't get it was about smoking pot until later in life, but bringing attention to subject matter is a sure-fire way to expose them to the thing you're trying to protect them from.
I had forgotten this song and that the singer went by just the first name Sylvia. There was another singer who went by just the first name Sylvia (Sylvia Vanderpool). She had two hits: the first in 1957 ("Love is Strange") as half of the duet Mickey & Sylvia; the second was I believe in 1973 ("Pillow Talk") as a solo artist.
Wow, I had completely forgotten about Sylvia. She was so pretty, I always had a bit of a crush on her. Nobody was her only really big hit. She had a few other songs that were in the top 10 on the country charts, but I don't think I would say she was a huge country star. She did get some country awards, mostly for Nobody and the year she released it at the CMT awards. But she does still perform even today and put out some albums on her own company record label.
There was another artist that went by Sylvia in the 1970s. Sylvia Hutton was on the Country charts in the 1980s and "Nobody" 1982 was one of her biggest hits. But Sylvia Robinson was on the R&B/Pop charts in the 1970s. And her most famous (infamous? ) song was "Pillow Talk" 1972. Some more conservative members of society actually tried to get it banned from the radio (and succeeded in some smaller, Bible Belt markets). A lot of people confuse the two singers, since both went simply by Sylvia, but once you listen to Pillow Talk, you will definitely be able to tell the difference. Let me just say, when it first was released, as a healthy 17 year old male, after listening to Pillow Talk, my first instinct was to roll over and light up a cigarette. Not so much for what she sang, but for how she sang it . . . 😊
There's also a soul singer named Sylvia who had a big hit in 1973 called Pillow Talk-a pre-cursor to Donna summer's Love To Love You Baby. She was also a part of the duo Mickey & sylvia with their late 50s hit Love Is Strange.
Ah...what a wonderful classic that I haven't heard in hears. For you younger folks, remember that this is from the ancient times when there were no cell phones, only land lines, and no caller ID to see who was calling you.
A great crossover song for Sylvia. The whole album "Just Sylvia" is good. Other tracks from the album you should checkout are "Like Nothing Ever Happened", "You Can't Go Back Home", and "Sweet Yesterday". Also, checkout her song "Snapshot".
Thank you fir showing Sylvia some love. She was definitely a favorite of mine throughout the 80s. Try her version of Desperado, photograph to name just two.

Where Have You Been by Kathy Mattea is a beautiful song. Please react to that one.
Yes!! Suzy and Kathy are awesome!
haven't heard this for a long while, was nice to hear. Another female singer that I think you both would like is Terri Gibbs with her song "Somebody's Knockin'". it reminds me of that early 80's country pop, but has more soul than most of that time. And as an aside, Terri is blind....I enjoyed seeing her perform that song.
Love it ! I haven't heard this song in forever ! Thanks. Great reaction.
You might want to listen to Sylvia's Snapshot. As a bonus if you pick the right video you can see how film was processed
Love Sylvia, please do more, And Barbara Mandrell also! She was like one of the biggest country stars from the 70s and 80s.
She had another hit song called, LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED which is a great song by her as well.
I had completely forgotten about this song!
Oh my! It got a ton of air play on Philly radio stations when it was released.
I appreciate the memories!
Thank you Jay and Amber for another song that brings back sweet memories! You bring smiles and joy to everyone! Bless you!❤
Such a fun song!
I think they were both popular on the radio around the same time - hearing this now made me think of the Charlene song too.
Please do Highway 101 Whiskey If You Were A Woman
Always loved her voice growing up. Thanks guys ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne had a great song around the same time as Nobody from Sylvia. The song is Seven year ache
There’s another female artist also known as Silvia , she was a bit of a one hit wonder and I remember that her song “Pillow Talk” was a huge hit in the early 70s. The song was also covered but not commercially released by Janet Jackson.
this also became a top 20 pop hit.
This WAS a very big pop hit as well as a country hit back in the early 80's
Sylvia Jane Hutton, an amazing singer! I also love "I Never Quite Got Back (From Loving You), and "Who's Kidding Who." Thanks for reacting to one of my favorites!
I saw her in a private concert when her album was going to be released. It was Sylvia, Janie Fricke and Charlie Pride. I loved
Charlie Pride.
I love Sylvia's music. Another great song by her is Snapshot. That one is hilarious, especially if you watch the original video.
I loved this song back in the day. Another great one from this time is “Seven Year Ache” by Roseanne Cash - yes, the daughter of Johnny.
Thank you for featuring Sylvia! I hope you will check out more of her songs!
She had 11 Top 10's on the Billboard Country charts from 1980-1986.
"Tumbleweed" #10 (1980)
"Drifter" #1 (1981)
"The Matador" #7 (1981)
"Heart on the Mend" #8 (1981)
"Nobody" #1 (1982)
"Like Nothing Ever Happened" #2 (1982/83)
"Snapshot" #5 (1983)
"I Never Quite Got Back (From Loving You)" #3 (1983/84)
"Fallin' In Love" #2 (1985)
"Cry Just a Little Bit" #9 (1985)
"I Love You by Heart" (Duet w/Michael Johnson) #9 (1985/86)
A few other noteworthy Sylvia songs are...
"Sweet Yesterday" #12 (1982)
"Victims of Goodbye" #24 (1984)
"Nothin' Ventured Nothin' Gained" #33 (1986)
Sylvia has another song that could be a fellow up to this one its called "Snapshot"
Thanks. 😎
My friends stayed at an air B and B in Nashville a few years ago that used to be Sylvia’s home.
I know this is 7 months old, but I was a huge fan of Sylvia's. I read an article that she is life coach for artists in the industry
80's female country- Reba- Somebody Should Leave, from 1984 I believe. This is her 2nd #1 song, of her 25 #1's! Her 1st #1 is How Blue.
I absolutely LOVE that shirt Amber!!
Early 80s country was very pop-oriented, especially with the female artists
Amber, please check out Emmylou Harris "Boulder to Birmingham" It's a personal one that she wrote about her relationship with Gram Parsons. This is the one that put her on the map! You'll love the guitar and her passionate voice!
"Snap Shot" by Sylvia. One of my fave's but the first time I saw Sylvia was in her video "Victims of Goodbye" she's so pretty and I love her voice.

I remember my mom bought this album when it came out and used to play it all the time. Memories
This was popular on pop radio too - lots of country/pop crossover songs in the late 70's & early 80's.
I haven't heard this song in decades. I kinda had a crush on Sylvia in the '80s. For the record, I'm 52.
A first time hearing for me and I loved it thanks for the time together!
Not so much for what she sang, but for how she sang it . . . 😊
You should play Sylvia - Pillow Talk from the 70’s
There's also a soul singer named Sylvia who had a big hit in 1973 called Pillow Talk-a pre-cursor to Donna summer's Love To Love You Baby. She was also a part of the duo Mickey & sylvia with their late 50s hit Love Is Strange.
I love this song..I especial llike it as an adult,...
It was a really popular song…the beat alone is enough to grab listeners…
Ah...what a wonderful classic that I haven't heard in hears. For you younger folks, remember that this is from the ancient times when there were no cell phones, only land lines, and no caller ID to see who was calling you.
snap shot by sylvia
OMFG!!! Banger. On a regular rotation at my place.
the most best pop country song of all time and sylvia she was the most beautiful young lady
A great crossover song for Sylvia. The whole album "Just Sylvia" is good. Other tracks from the album you should checkout are "Like Nothing Ever Happened", "You Can't Go Back Home", and "Sweet Yesterday". Also, checkout her song "Snapshot".
Saw Sylvia in concert. A real class act.
Thank you fir showing Sylvia some love. She was definitely a favorite of mine throughout the 80s. Try her version of Desperado, photograph to name just two.
