I don't have that much of an interest in what he is teaching, I already know C programming, and my major is much different from this. The only reason I am watching this is because of him. He makes this worth watching.
If you're a machine much like I am, skip through video until about 18.5 minutes in, because he's just talking about "fluff" such as classroom setup, wiki editing, downloading, wi-fi availability, and basic school & forum rules. Excellent video!
wish i had a teacher like this guy when i was at skool and college. the mans enthusiasim (spelling) is inspirational. came here looking for stuff about machine code but this guys just a cracking guy. lol. brilliant. thank you uni south wales. gotta love the aussies!
I love how lesson 1 he points out #1 priority in computing is consistency: Then here he writes "beep if 0" using a slash zero when every other 0 in his program doesn't have a slash.... and wonders why people get confused :)
a computer is just a box of micro-processors, a micro processor is just a condensed box of transistors and a transistor is just a switch that can be operated remotely to create on and off (I/O)
How do compiler programs and whatnot turn source into machine code? Surely the first ever program must have been made in Machine code directly, because there was no other program to translate it for the cpu...
Can someone answer this basic question... at some webpages, the OR-gate logic is specified like 00 = 0, 01 = 1, 10 = 1 and 11 = 1. However, in other webpages, it's specified like 00 = 0, 01 = 1, 10 = 1 and 11 = 0. Which is right?
Just wondering if anyone watching got this at around 40 mins when they were making a programme to "beep" and add a number? do the public have access to the emulator?
@breakdance74 Input: 9 2 10 2 1 8 12 7 13 13 11 11 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Expected output: program started 0 program terminated Actual output: program started Incorrect argument format for emulator. Please give a single argument specifying the filename of your program.
uggh!! why do ppl in collage courses have to act as if they are still in grade school... its very distracting when they ask questions that are either off topic or just trying to make a fool of the teacher.. they are in the class by choice.. what the hell is the point of throwing the teacher off topic when you chose to learn the material he presents?
I dont like this professor so much. He's ok, he is knowledgable and when he's focused on what he's supposed to be teaching he's great. But when he goes off on these ADD induced tangents its really annoying and distracting. I like his enthusiasm but his jumpiness is really boring.
Uni lectures are booooooooooooooooooooooooooring they just past their time by talking a lot until you really get bored and fail the assignment so you can redo another year.
This type of teacher is what is lacking from most schools today. Learning while having fun.
Totally, if even 1 of my tutors was as good as this guy, college might have gone better for me :D
skip to 18:36 if you're in a hurry to learn anything
Jochem Kuijpers me too thought. this guy is a G

I love how he makes it fun, I can sit and watch for hours.
these is the kind of videos we need in youtube... there are a lot of thing to learn, not only in electronics
You sir, are an excellent teacher. I wish I'd had a teacher like you all those years ago.
this guy is freakin hilarious and a great teacher. wish i was studying CS at UNSW
Sometimes you can tell when someones a 'good guy' - he is one of em .

Such a great teacher... I am self learning programming..These lectures are so awesome.. Thank you!
I like the way how he use psychology and distraction to get student focus on problems. nice work
This video gave me a very clear, comprehensive knowledge of the primitive nature of computational machines. 5/5
a great tutor and a great introduction to computer science
AWESOME lecture.....A great professor...Gained much...

I love this professor. The guy is freaking amazing and funny ; )
Thank you for your insightful knowlage. Oh how enlightened I feel. and that wasn't exactly what I was asking anyway.
Thanks for that ^.^ (nothing personal against the small talk, but it's not what I'm here for)
This guy is a great teacher :)
OMG I knew he looked like someone. This is Australian John Green.
a computer is just a box of micro-processors, a micro processor is just a condensed box of transistors and a transistor is just a switch that can be operated remotely to create on and off (I/O)
I like this guy. Very relatable.
Very very good teacher!
actual course content starts at timestamp 18:00 although the content before is still worth a watch and funny 😆
What a brilliant guy.
Really thank you, that's really a nice material for me
Wow I think it would be totally awesome to go to UNSW and have him as a teacher. Does anyone know if he is currently posting lectures?
Good learnings sir
DID THEY GET THE MARS BAR?!
Superb guy

Anybody knows where i can get a copy of the 16 byte instructions definition?
The second example is XOR (Exclusive OR) One or the other not BOTH! :)
Do we all have access to the wiki notes, I can't make out the URL if anyone knows?
Just wondering if anyone watching got this at around 40 mins when they were making a programme to "beep" and add a number? do the public have access to the emulator?
it says that this video is unavailable??
Excellent - thank you very much :-)
nice lecture
Or is machine code a language that does it right after reading it?
I would like to read the lecture notes.. :)
What Mars bar?? Ill bring your mars bar for you on monday.....OR MY NAME ISNT RUPID! lmaooooooooo 31:29
I'm on mobile and can't change my video quality, what is the website they are using?
Thanks buddy I only need to know "Wiki and Forums". The rest of section I guess I already know that.
Actual content starts at 18:20
Just talking about wiki and forums up to that point fyi
@SemiOptimist Can I have the link?
Google "LC-3" It may be what you are looking for if you want to dabble in machine code and assembly.
What if you did 10 2 12 1? Wouldn't that just cause a paradox?
@newcoolvid27 I meant expected output 12
cool teacher
Don't solve a problem with a sledgehammer if you can solve it with a little sledgehammer :)
Good lecturer, when he gets into lecturing. Seems most of his time is spent on "meta-info".
very anxious guy
sira
@PR3DAT0RY Don't worry, this is a UNIVERSITY, not college.
WHAT IS THE 4917 EMULATOR URL?
So, David j And richard buckland... Who else ?
@Pad6 INPUT ACCEPTED
Thank you :-)
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.
is killing yourself is same as not living?
9-13-10-14-1-11-15-7-11-11-8-0-0-3-10-0. Change this to:
9-13-10-14-1-11-15-7-11-11-8-0-13-3-10-0.
Now it produces (much more than) two beeps.
@breakdance74 Input: 9 2 10 2

13 13 11 11

Actual output:

You are, by watching this video. :D
PLEASE MAKE A PUBLIC EMULATOR!

I prefer a road runner effect, beep - math - beep - print - beep

@breakdance74 Yes!
I can't notice his Australian accent at all!
I know!
here's the emulator wiki.cse.unsw.edu.au/cs1917cgi/08s1/4719_Microprocessor
Look up Brian Will
mexican wave during a class? lol !!
He does a Lot of Talking Though !!
@Aphid4 7-13-0...beeps without that pesky math stuff
omg, hes wearing shorts...hahaha
squiggly line
This is not education in machine code , this is basic electronics.
This wasted an hour of my life.
college looks confusing
shhhhhhhhhhhh shhh shhh shhhhh
