Man, I had to replace my water heater over the summer. When I did I also added in a water softener and filter. I ran pex for the whole thing. Cheapest easiest way to do it. Awesome video!

@Plumb Hero, actually pretty simple, nice job too and I like that you even wrapped the Teflon with the direction of tightening! Idk where you are but here we use die-electric unions to connect the water lines. Copper was our preferred choice of piping, die-electric unions made it easier removing the water lines from water heaters especially as they age and tend to corrode at the factory nipples installed in the WH. I worked briefly in Plumbing as a kid, the man I worked with made copper piping and soldering virtually an "art form", the angles/symmetry, fittings and joints were clean and that's how I like it too. We occasionally worked on some commercial projects & very large homes but mostly 3-story, 12 unit condos is pretty much what he and I worked on. They used Apollo water heater systems providing hot water to fixtures and the HVAC system to heat the living space.
Anyway, 6'7 is a lot of man to fit into some of these areas, I've always been the opposite but us "shorter" folk can go places you "giants" can't, the weather is just little cooler "down here", lol. As for "pull your pants up boy", hey no "Plumber's crack" was exposed so you're ok!😄I like the microwave in the van and the "steering wheel tray", hadn't seen one of those! Anyway, one thing I would recommend is making sure to have plenty of clean rags/towels and some plastic to put down, especially working over carpet, just have to be very careful about not slipping on the plastic etc. Of course that's why you have the rags/towels to also put down and soak up any water & keep boots clean/dry which I noticed you weren't wearing! I remember one afternoon we gotta call to change out a WH in a Dentist's home.
The worst part, it was up the stairs which changed direction twice and down a long hall and EVERYWHERE there was SNOW-WHITE CARPET!!"😦So I made sure to roll out plastic everywhere and have lots of towels etc., to prevent even a "drop" of water from staining anything. It was a hot day and the WH was in the attic space but there was a door access like you had which led back into the attic space. It felt like "300+ degrees" in there. Sadly we couldn't get all of the water to drain either because internally the tank was so corroded it stopped up the drain so it was still rather heavy. Everything turned out fine tho.
I think the absolute worst I remember was one job where a 4-story townhome, these actually have built-in elevators & lots of marble so it's pretty "ritzy", they used circulating pump systems to ensure hot water was available at all fixtures and they used dual water heaters, 2 - 50 gallon units but get this, they were installed into the "ceiling" in the marble master bath where the opening to the attic space was about 12-15 feet off the floor. I swear, the people who designed these things.😑Thankfully this wasn't a "change-out" it was the "original installation" at this point but we had to have 2 A-ladders and about 5 men, climbing the ladders, using ropes etc., to get the water heaters up into the air and tilted on the horizontal to go into the opening.🙄 I couldn't imagine someone trying to replace those things later. And what made no sense to me is, SINCE they're using "pumps" to circulate the water, they could've easily built a small "utility room" on the back of these homes where all of the Plumbing/HVAC systems could be installed at ground level.🤷‍♂

Nice work. Wow some of these newer water heaters are really lasting a “long” time lol. That one you replaced had Bradford Whites newest style gas valve.

Lets be real for a sec, was it the sharkbite or poor installation. Real sharkbite fittings have a 25 year warranty. Any material will leak with poor installation.

What's the lower portion of the gas line for (the one w/ the nipple)?

Rheem switched to the honeywell (now "residio" branded but same thing) valves. I can't imagine what all those replacements cost them both in money and brand reputation. Those gray "delta" valves 😂 what a shtshow
