Mark your song Romeo and Juliet is a beautiful love song. I had a Romeo years ago and he promised me everything and I go nothing. But, the time, wasn't right. Thanks for writing a beautiful song. Stay safe.
as soon as knopflers plays the first notes on his national, i tear up. alchemy is such a classic double album. no, i for sure won't write about my lost youth now, and how great the eighties were and what a desperate old geezer i'm in the times of covid 19, nope, for sure not.
When I was a kid in the 80s, Dire Straits were playing non-stop everywhere. My aunt was a big fan of the band, and she used to play their records all the time, which has created some of the best memories of my life. Today it's exactly 17 years since she died, and every time I hear this song, I can't help but remember her, and think back to that special time. Wherever you are, I miss you so much Auntie.
Saw them once...at the old Boston Garden back in ‘85 or ‘86. Such a distant memory from one of my favorite bands! Can’t remember if they played this-it was probably the “Brothers in Arms” tour.
I love the whole album, especially this song. It brings back so many fond memories of a time where life was so much simpler and enjoyable. If I could choose a groundhog day it would be that concert............
This brings back lovely memories of travelling up the Edgware road in 1984 to visit my then G/F who was in hospital in Stanmore at the time. I was a mere 22 years of age and very much in Love. I'd commute from Kent in my Triumph Spitfire and it was either this or Bruce's album at the time that I'd play. The intro in particular brings it all back. Side one and two would be like a musical journey to help me on my way. Sadly, we only lasted until early 1986. She's now got three kids with her husband and I'm living with my Girl of ten years. I haven't seen her since the 90's but I get the occasional update from a friend who still keeps in touch. She was my first serious G/F so it was a special thing. I sometimes think back to those days with much fondness. I've made the journey that I did back in 1984 on a few occasions since just to remember. I always take this album with me when I do.
This album is one of the best live albums ever. And although I prefer Mark Knopflers Dire Straits stuff, the man is still producing a shit load of genius.
..ein absoluter Killer..die bei weitem schönste Version dieses Songs. Ich finde, hier kommt Marks geniales Spiel noch besser zum Tragen.. nearly perfect!!!
First time away back in late seventies early eighties I heard Mark & his band I really liked them*** later when they sometimes finished a show with Irish boy this little born in Fanad Co Donegal boy thought of these Geordie boys as like my very own***
"you and me babe, how about it". I did. Back when I was young and hopeful (80's) why can't we do romance like this anymore. Good music, good company and not a bloody. # in site. Just the joy of two people in the zone! Oh well. Just have to invest in a battery recharger, less trouble.
Well, "romance like this" is about severe heartbreak so bad that decades later he's getting SADDER singing about it. I for one am GLAD I don't "don't romance like this" anymore...
Mark Knopfler: you are like a European mediaeval troubadour of old; your gift is to spread music and romantic love through different kingdoms with your fine music. És tão maravilhoso!
can anyone please tell me, there was a video version of this song on RUclips, where there were a girl and boy standing together and cuddle together at the start of the video, can you please give me the link of that video?

Reminds me too much of my youth every time I hear this version. Absolutely love this!
This was real, no overdubs, no auto tune, no nothing, just Dire Straits on stage. Isn't it magic???
Not like our nowadays music. Depends on auto tune. Not talent.
@@AliBaba-ym4ii there are monster musicians today.
