    I love the way you forge welded the edges on. Best winged spear process I’ve seen so far.

    Nice video! But pity that the most interesting part for me, beginning of welding of wings, is missing. I woul like to try make spear with wings and I don't want to use modern welder. I know that in many cases, the wings were fixed by soldering by copper.

      In the near future, I will show, how to do it without electrical welding machine support.

      @@Ulfheodin You can always use wire to hold wings together - wrap wire in the top and bottom of wing, then weld wing sides, remove wire, and weld the rest. :)

    In my opinion, it is very difficult to weld the spear bushing in this way.
    Probably, if we consider modern refined steels, then this is generally impossible due to the higher welding temperature. It will not weld or burn.
    And why did you weld the wings in this way, is there evidence of this method?

    • @officinaferraria
      @officinaferraria  2 года назад +1

      yes, there is plenty of evidence that some of the early medieval spears' wings have been welded that way and sockets also. I tried to forge-weld wings to the socket using modern steel and it was ok, the only problem I see here is low carbon steel which needs high temp to weld but if only one piece (socket or wings) is medium/high carbon steel, forge welding is not a problem at all.
