      Cat with a diphthong
      Wrong.
      That’s the whole reason the car didn’t do well in most peoples opinion. It went away for many years and came back with the same horsepower and performance as a 2009 ZR1.
      In many instances the ZR1 was a little bit quicker and faster.
      All other cars advance significantly. They should’ve had a supercharger standard with another 150 to 200 hp just like I said.

    • @a.edw.160
      @a.edw.160 4 года назад +1

      Viper ACR so you’re saying that it couldn’t keep up around a track with a car that was older and had the same power at roughly the same price point, and your main takeaway is that it needed more power? And then you have the huevos to just say “wrong” as though only your opinion is valid? First off, that’s a little dickish, and second, I’m sorry, I don’t buy that. Reviewers of the day didn’t bemoan the Viper’s power, they criticized its handling. The fact that it had a much larger contact patch for its tires and yet couldn’t generate the same lateral g forces as it’s competitor hints at a chassis problem rather than a power problem. Again, it could have done with more power, but I don’t think that’s why it underperformed compared to the ‘Vette.
      Honestly, I think it would have benefited from additional chassis tweaks rather than the brute force engineering that was applied to it (and was also part of its charm) as well as active aero rather than all that old-school, fixed-downforce aero that the ACR got. Can you imagine how much quicker the ACR would have been if could have had that downforce where it needed it and then gotten slippery again when required? Boggles the mind.
      And I say all this as someone who just picked up a Gen V Viper TA. I love the car, and it’s the most fun car I’ve owned (and I’ve been lucky to own a few), but power isn’t what’s holding it back.

    • @phantom5573
      @phantom5573 4 года назад

      Cat with a diphthong
      Again.
      In my opinion and many others, the return of the Dodge Viper 2013 was badly under-powered. It’s chassis and handling was phenomenal and the ACR elevated the bar.
      I’ve owned 5 Vipers, including a 2010 ACR.
      Aside from the fact the car is in need of a lot more horsepower, The Viper is a raw and rare car and should push the envelope.
      From a pure marketing standpoint, being the Viper is low production, raw, unforgiving.... it needed significantly more power to keep it relevant.

    • @a.edw.160
      @a.edw.160 4 года назад +3

      Viper ACR I think we’re going to just have to agree to disagree here.
      The viper had plenty of power for its day. I agree that it should have had maybe a squirt more, if only for marketing purposes but also to further delineate it from its Corvette rival. But the biggest problem it faced was a chassis problem. The ZR1 was posting better numbers across the board with a smaller tire contact patch, it was older, and it inspired more confidence in the drive for more average drivers and had higher limits than the Viper (until the ACR came along) for professionals to exploit. At least, stock. This was the opinion of most reviewers of the day as well as professional drivers. This was the failing of the resurgent snake: it failed to deliver the goods. Could 150-200 horsepower have helped there? Undoubtedly. But the main problem was the massive unused potential of that chassis. You can tune a Viper out of the box and, without adding any power, it will run away from a ZR1 on track. They just have such massive potential locked away in that chassis, and it didn’t really get used until the ACR (even the TA is frustratingly under-Utilizing it’s potential from the factory) but what hurt the ACR most was that on big tracks it just couldn’t make use of all that power, so it was slow on the straights. Active aero would have solved that.
      I do think that for their extreme ACR version, it was a mistake to go all in on the old-school downforce. It stuck the car in the corners, but it slapped away the power on the long straights, and on paper it should have been a power circuit car. Instead I think they should have either A). Gone full downforce but add a commensurate amount of horsepower or B). Gone the way of active aero to take full advantage of the Viper’s potential in both the twisties and the straights.
      Fact is that the Viper team knew what they were doing, and they prepped the engines to be able to have big power adders slapped on in the aftermarket. But they didn’t massage the chassis enough to make it as compelling as it needed to be on the market. It was always a niche car, and the niche pretty much evaporated as old boys and mid-life crisis sufferers all started buying big SUVs and trucks instead of sports cars.
      TL;DR: a variety of issues killed the Viper, but I still don’t think power was the stake through the heart you’re making it out to be.
      All that said, I’m looking at doing cams and head for mine 😈
