Because if you dig without drilling you're wasting your Bleeping time. It's dumb luck if you find something. In fact they showed us Tony's drilling rig. In one of the shows he went out with Parker to do drilling.
The more I think about it the more surprised I am that he would do such a thing. You have to know where the gold is flowing.

One trackhoe alone cost probably 250,000 before fuel and repairs. Haul truck is probably another 100,000 doing business is expensive.
