Queensryche is fuckin classic for me!! When they came to Tucson on the Promise Land tour in 1995 I attended with a Broken Neck!! Literally!! Great band and Concert!!Geoff was legendary!!
If Queensryche hadn’t already made so much great music before this album, then this track would easily be considered one of their best. As it is, it’s a great gem hidden among their other legendary songs.
The Queensryche show I saw on the Promised Land tour in the summer of '95 at Star Lake Amphitheater outside Pittsburgh, PA remains my favorite concert memory of all time. I may like the Mindcrime album slightly more, but Promised Land was an absolute masterpiece.
"Sensory preception peaking at this time, electric waves of sound are filling Janie's mind today". And then the solo starts. Fuck yeah!! THIS IS PARANORMAL!
It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has a vitality of its own and has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical, emotional nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music humans can create.. i.e. Korn( first album: finest work using bagpipes) the first progressive metal band Queensryche, (key boards, piano work, female vocals, and operatic overture). Metalcore band As I Lay Dying (piano work) and God Forbid (electronic violin). I am sure there are more metal bands I am not aware of that use others musical instruments not mentioned.
From working in the medical field within a hospital (as opposed to a doctor's office), I have met more than my fair share of "Janes." I am speaking about fellow healthcare professionals, not patients. This song also makes me think of Lisbeth Salander.
Salomon Spiegelstein It’s about Jane (a human female) being married to a Demi-god who leaves her at home during the day to care for their offspring. Jane is trying to process her world as she has her human eyes opened more each day to the supernatural reality of this dimension. Does she smile as this realization takes hold in her mind or is she frightened by it? Tread lightly mortals for your Gods walk among you...Ted.
The most underrated band in musical history.. the guys are approachable. Smart..and their music is great.

IMO not their best album but still a very good one...

Pink Floyd was a HUGE influence on the band. that's why there is a lot of similarities.
Love this song especially the gutar solo

What does that have to do with the song? As a PACU RN I'm interested in hearing your explanation please.
Janie Janie miles away...says she'll play another day, then it repeats. It's an awesome song!

Time to explore our mental health after all these years mind-reading paraphrasing, images remote viewers common today. John.
Queensryche went all-out Pink Floyd on this album. 🥰

Hello Jenia..
Tate had the voice however Degarmo was the engine that drove Queensryche. No one else.
Tate is an awesome singer in a particular and awesome band...

"Are you smiling or afraid?" What is this song actually about?

i know exactly where he is coming from
Lady Jane Doe...
and as far as today,
crack your nothing more
than club over shoulder....
primitive perception
he talks about first sex or first drug ? ... or maybe both together X)
Lady Jane is no lady, she's a girl.. innocent and forever broken
makes me think of Dr. Suess and the cat in the hat, crazy huh?
well of course it's all about me....
Then Janie went and got a gun and went to the playground to have some fun.
i can swear this song is Turkish
Buddy said it's about a child in a psychiatric ward. Don't know where he found that out though. Who knows.
It could be man. I was always told it's about an outcast kid. Like an orphan or something of said nature.
I always figured it was about the same girl mentioned in the song "Out of Mind" from earlier in the album.
Er my name is Lady Jane Fisher... Sorry I hate this song 1
