  • Every criminal defence lawyer hears, often repeatedly, the question, “How can you defend those people?” It’s an important question, not just for lawyers but for every citizen of societies that claim to value liberty. Dean Strang, (defence attorney for Steven Avery in the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer), will explore some overlooked considerations that the question raises in the hope of aiding lawyers and other citizens alike come to their own answer. He will connect that common question and its answers to our individual and collective humanity, to humility and its relation to liberty, and to the ways in which legal education might help to form citizen-lawyers best equipped to answer that question.
Dean Strang is a noted US criminal defence lawyer. He practices in Madison, Wisconsin, as a shareholder in StrangBradley, LLC. He was Wisconsin’s first Federal Defender and has argued in the United States Supreme Court, five federal circuits, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
The Peter Brett Memorial Lecture Series Peter Brett (1918-1975), appointed Senior Lecturer at the Law School in 1955, Reader in 1961, Hearn Professor of Law at the University of Melbourne from 1963 to 1964 and Professor of Jurisprudence from 1964 until his death, was distinguished by both his scholarship in criminal law and legal philosophy, and his determination to contest injustice in the courts.

IMO, it's unbelievable that judges at the higher level of the American Appellate Court System failed to see the difference between "thinking of " and "remembering" something like shooting someone in the head. I hope & am glad that there are "fair-minded" ppl funding and fighting to correct a profoundly corrupt, criminal injustice system on behalf of Dassey, Avery and all the wrongly convicted.

Thanks for the wealth of information. However. Your client was not allowed to use police entrapment as a defence. Others were entrapped by kratz and cops 8 miles from The Courthouse that held Stevens trial! Also. You sllowed the state to bsn all other media sources except chan 5 news. Only they allowed in to tape and edit? Court tv requested to covet this trial. Keeping it local huh Dean? God bless

Laws of any sort are made empirically in resonance bonding proportioning probabilities, composed of AM-FM timing of periodic temporal spacing time duration, a matter of evaluating constants of sync-duration. (Word identity of coherence-cohesion objectives)
The Calculus of e-Pi-i omnidirectional-dimensional logarithmic condensation functions is the substance in which we are embedded, a unity of principle and duality of multiplicity, unique in common uniqueness that must analysed, scientifically, due diligence in good faith that all are subject to the same scrutiny. (Does this happen?)
Obviously not a Lawyers POV, for whom infinities of complexity has to be reduced to manageable levels. (Unless you are a Lawyer-Mathematician like Fermat)
A Math-Physics POV might claim that "Sentencing" is the identification of the 1-0-infinity probability balance in 0-1-2-ness projection-drawing of/to the holistic holographic picture-plane containment in Perspective. Remembering the importance to Humanity of Gold-Silver Rules, derived directly from QM-TIME, mathematical quantization cause-effect Completeness.

He takes the easy option here. When people say how can you defend "those people" they mean people such as OJ Simpson who his legal team knew fine well he was guilty.

Simpson was found not guilty, is here therefore still in the category of “ them “ because he was charged and believed guilty by many in the media ?

No sir. I’m not a criminal .you are. Under common law I’m not a criminal. Under the legal system maybe we are all guilty. Smoking pot is not a crime under any constitution.
