I've been screaming since 2005 and at 12:26, that "wah-ow" movement got me right to my high screams with no pain within SECONDS. I feel like that's a range I haven't been able to tap into properly in years and it felt that comfortable ♥
Definitely look into sleep training early, don’t stress to much, sleep whenever the baby sleeps if possible, and you got this no matter what your mind tells you. It’s scary but it gets easier the more they learn. Mines almost ten months now, you’re gonna be a great dad so don’t worry! Much love

Invaluable information, Mark. Your channel is so helpful to stumble upon for starting vocalists, or even vocalists who have been at it for a while. I think everyone that does vocals needs to hear at least once that “you are not this person, so you will not sound exactly like this person, exactly as this person will not sound like you”
Omg!! Thank you! Metal has been my go to since a kid. I’ve been wanting to learn to scream sing, and this is my first introduction to seeing exactly how scientific it is, which makes me want to learn even more! Thank you again!! I will be following all your vids!!
Man I've been with your channel for a good long while now and never asked myself till now. Where did you learn this amazingly unique knowledge? Just vocal lessons alone can't be enough to be able to identify what these vocalists are doing to create certain sounds. Awesome!!
I've always heard Lamb of God described as "groove core." Also doing the sliding scale harsh vocals thing is fun, I've been doing that for about 5 years now. It really does help find different shapes and sounds.
Best reaction to the false ending @23:35 I've been a LoG fan since they were BtP and have no vocal training whatsoever, aside from just trying to mimic Randy's style. Little story here: I was in a few different bands in prison, playing bass. My "Main" band was Metal, and we all dug LoG, and my guitar player and drummer really pushed me into doing vocals and bass when our one singer left. I just went for it, and at first we had to run my mic pretty hot lol. Anyways, one of the first songs we did with me on the mic was Omerta and Descending and ever since that week of practice, my guitarist called my RBJ (Randy Blythe Jr.) we started to do all our songs/cover in the style of "if Randy was in this band" like Angel of Death by Slayer. One thing that really helped out, was we played everything in D Standard and Drop-C
There a lot of vocalists that are technically more diverse than Randy, but nobody, in my opinion, enunciates with more consistent wrath than him. A lot of vocalist require a lyrics sheet to follow along with, but I can understand everything Randy roars, and it still sounds fucking awesome. It's got a bit of that southern twang in it too, which just makes it filthy. And of course, that iconic jaguar scream is something no one else can replicate. You hear that, and you know exactly who it is. He's one of the greatest at this point.
Randy is a legend at this point and his sound is so easily recognizable. Any chance you are going to do any of the new Tallah songs? Shaken (Not Stirred) is worth checking out for sure.
It's funny that we're all trying real hard to learn all this sht at a technical level and Randy just started doing it naturally as a joke(and he still thinks so)and it made him earn his status in the metal world. lol I feel like such a pleb
Lamb of god is one of the only metal bands out of select few I can listen to anymore. They're the peak. Randy goes so hard but I can still hear EVERY WORD. Such good articulation.
Mark, I can barely fathom how awe-inspiring *Liminal Rite* is. Such blend of crushingly heavy, harrowingly desolate and hauntingly beautiful music takes true talent. And talented musicians blending different genres and techniques like that is a sign that music as an artform has definitely not hit its peak yet. It gives me hope. (Lamb of God is pretty good too)
Lamb of God rocks! Randy has a hell of a voice. Also the guitar player has a great last name. Hehe. The best advice I can give you in regards to wee ones is this. Just when you think they are asleep give it another 5 minutes or so. Also car rides and walks can be a life saver as well. My youngest was colicky and sleep was hard for her. The above worked wonders. Cheers!
Been following you for a while now and have definitely been using your tips to try and better my vocals! As far as advice goes, every child is different so it’s just a matter of figuring out what works for your son. Best thing I can say is for you and your wife to support each other as much as possible. Wake up with her for the nighttime feeding/diaper sessions and make sure there’s plenty of water light snacks for your wife. In my experience the best snacks were always mini saltines, graham crackers, baby bells and sausage sticks. Especially if your wife is nursing, the baby is pulling nutrients and whatnot from your wife, so having small stuff like that on hand at night to help replenish those losses will help her feel better.
Hey Mark we love you and I'm surprised no one else has said this yet but Randy's name is pronounced "Bly" - see his Wikipedia Fact or Fiction episode. Rock on my dude
Oh Mark, the first weeks and months with a newborn are soooo scary. My first and only was born almost 12 years ago, and I still can't watch horror movies anymore because life itself is so scary
Late to the party but I've got two kids myself. White noise machines are a huge recommendation from me. I haven't worried about the noise I'm making while the boys are asleep for nearly 3 years now. I can watch movies at unnecessary volumes as long as I like and they don't even move. I haven't tested my theory, but I don't think I'd have an issue with a party going on... Also, get into your sleeping routine as quickly as you can. Don't rush in and pick him up every time he makes a noise. Just go in quietly, settle him and walk out.
In the Thrash Metal portion of the Metal Evolution docu series, Kerry King (Slayer) said LOG is like the new wave of Thrash. I don't have an opinion other than I like LOG, but I'll take King's word for it.
One important note is that his false chords are vocal chord and tone based. Requiring an actual voice as the foundation and the false folds are just adding grit to it. It’s more of a closed fold scream. Similar to Ivan Moody. It’s how I do my screams. It’s like the opposite end of the false chord spectrum away from the toilet bowl gutturals and the huge, spacious growls.
Just wanted to say something about articulation. I practiced many years ago screaming Eminems part on Forgot About Dre. Lots of fun and helped me alot lol
Mark congratulations 1st and secondly be patient that’s the advice given to me . What also worked for me was taking charge a couple days nights then let mom do it that way you both get some rest and NO BINKYS!!! It’s a crutch they don’t need my 2 boys did fine.
I've always described LoG as a groove metal band. Not really sure why other than that I feel like groove is an appropriate word used to describe the instrumentation. As a person who had a kind of contempt for children as I got into my late teens to early 20s, I was surprised that when my wife and I had our first child at 24, just how quickly I adapted to fatherhood. You really do just snap into it without really having to question how to best care for your child. Congratulations by the way! Nothing will EVER be more fulfilling in your life than becoming a father!

Some advice when your child is in the first few months of their life is to not put them to sleep in a super quiet environment because if they get used to only sleeping when it’s quiet they’ll never sleep where there’s noise, if they get used to sleeping in both loud and quiet places when they’re young you’ll have fewer problems later
I've heard them called a groove metal band but an argument could be made for metalcore. They definitely have a unique sound which has elements from thrash, hardcore, and death metal. Most of their albums have a sound that separates them from previous releases as well.
I always just call them “metal” cause I don’t think it exactly fits into any of the others. Although I hadn’t considered groove metal. I think that fits fairly well.

It's only a few short years and then it's gone forever. I think about it this: way : one day in the near future you will pick them up for the last time. Nothing is trivial. If he cries, pick him up. If you need a break, put him down butdo not let him just (cry it out). The cry it out method just teaches them to give up. Also, it strengthens your bond. This the only time they will never get to have this particular kind of attention and comfort in their lives so don't cheat them and yourself out of it. It's only a few short years and then it's gone forever. I think about it this: way : one day in the near future you will pick them up for the last time. Nothing is trivial.
Include them in things you are doing
There is so much more but this is off the top of my head. I have 6 kids from ages 9 months to 17 years. I'm not an expert but I'm not a novice either.
