I pulled the chassis out of my 15 watt Monoprice and rehoused it into a 40’s era record player cabinet along with a pair of mid 40’s vintage 12” Alnico speakers pulled from Bell & Howell Filmosound speakers. Sounds FANTASTIC!
@@FrugalFretter I don't see any harm in that but it might be all the same since I don't have an Instagram account. However, I think I found you on both FB and Twitter. Maybe you can post a pic in one of those places if you feel like it?🙂
I only saw this video about a month ago and I must thank for bringing this amp to my attention Colin. Like you, I love the sound and feel of a valve amp so I got onto Thomann's website and bought one. It was £235 and included a water resistant, heavy duty nylon cover with a UK mains adaptor plug. I can only confirm your review of this amp. For the money, it is spectacular and I've had great fun with it. The only real point I can sort of criticise about it is the Reverb, although useable, can be a bit harsh and as you said can get washed out as it gets turned up so I'm going to upgrade it to a 3 Spring Reverb Tank. MOD do a direct replacement tank and the samples I've heard appear to smooth it out. If that's all I can complain about, a £30 upgrade it's still a bargain in my opinion 👍👍👍.
Thank you, Colin. I've had a rough week, my Dad is in hospital and I am living out of a hotel so I can be here with him. I was looking forward to this review and forgot about it with all of the goings on, but seeing it appear in my feed brought me a smile and watching it transported me from the stress and worry. Thank you so much, as ever, for your insightful and fun films. The amp sounds great and as always it is a pleasure to hear you play Pistols riffs!
I have the original version of this amp that was offered through Monoprice. It had the controls on the top and a rounded-corner speaker grille. I can verify that mine was made by Laney because it's clearly indicated on the PCB. I think it sounds great!
I have three of the early Monoprice models, for wet-dry-wet, with the top controls; which I hope they go back to. This is a very neutral amp. It sounds good on it's own, but you can put preamp/modelling pedeas in front of the amps to get Marshall, AC30, Fender Tweed sound. After 4 years everything is woking OK.
Glad to see „my“ actual amp here. Making all of my videos with this little beauty. I owned many tube amps in my life…Fender, Vox, Hughes & Kettner an so on, but this amp doesnˋt need to hide! Thank you for your work, Colin!
Incredible timing. I finally had to scratch the valve itch and ordered the Monoprice version off of Amazon and it was delivered yesterday afternoon. This is my first and probably last tube amp, and as some in Britain might say, I'm chuffed! Last night was a marathon (for me) of practice/playing/noodling and I love the sounds I was able to get. It replaces a Boss Katana 50 watt, which I don't think is terrible for a digital amp, it does some things well, but I still lusted after true valve tone and this certainly satisfies that. Another great video from my favorite music gear reviewer.
One little issue came up with my new Tube 15. After a few days, when the amp was warmed up a tiny tinny rattling noise appeared when certain notes were played. It sounded like a thin piece of metal like a wire rattling against something. I went through the amp looking for anything loose and making sure all the screws were tight. It was still there. I figured it was maybe something loose in one of the tubes. I was considering upgrading the tubes anyway since it came to me with the unbranded Chinese tubes installed, so I went ahead and ordered a set of JJ's. That seems to have done the trick. And it sounds a bit better than it had before in my opinion.
As I understand it Colin its the old Laney LC15 rather than the Cub. A bloody good amp and much regarded. It's a great place to start for a little modding, making that it into a 2x10 combo.
LC 15 circuit? The LC 30s are the number one tube amp for.....blowing up at a gig and leaving you ampless. Those things are bloody awful. I wonder if the 15 watt is the same.
Hi, I bought this amp about one year ago. I love it especially for the clean tones. With my Telecaster (HH) is perfect. In my opinion it's impossible to buy some tube amp for this price so good as this one.
Colin, I can't say thank you enough! Across the pond from all my gear and was looking at a bunch of amps that I couldn't get excited about. Your video sold me on the HB 15 Tube. Have been playing it for a couple of months now with my Squier 50's Vibe Telecaster. Blown away to say the least. Much nicer than my old Blues Junior. Thanks again and cheers!!!
Also, I should add… im 20 years a dodgy guitar player and LOVE buying new gear, but gotta tell you, your demonstration on dialling in your tone was extremely helpful and very overlooked by most channels 🙏☘️☘️☘️
Have had one of these for about a year now, bought second hand for just over £100. So glad I bought it. It just works and sounds great in nearly every setting.
That was a good buy! How do you mainly use it; 15W or 1W? From this video it seems to produce a good driven tone on the 15W setting with the volume setting low (gain up); probably a comfortable volume. Imagine with both gain & volume up its defending around a meter away? I read that the 1W selection only reduces the input level (it's not a power attenuator for the speaker). That would weaken the drive from the guitar (or input pedals); in which case you could bump up the gain/volume on the amp to push the tubes to compensate and maintain a good tone? I practice with an amp output around 80db at one meter, the amp manages that well with a good tone, would hope for similar from this amp?
I wanted a little tube-amp myself. I bought a Vox AC-10 & I love it. This little amp sounds amazing for the price. More then 1/2 less than I paid for my Vox.
I have just ordered this amp (2 yrs after your video. ). I used to have the old Epi LP 61 Special in TV Yellow with P90s (which was an SG shape). Great guitar. Gnarley!
I’m blown away. Sounds great. The eq seems very musical, not harsh or useless as per the norm in Lo budget gear. Gain is nice. Reverb is actually rather good. And it runs pretty darn clean. Really impressed.
God Save the Queen and Jimmy Jazz in one video! I have been using the Stageright version of this amp for a year now with no problems. It keeps up with a drum kit at open-mics great. Fantastic sounding amp.
As usual, a very informative revue. I really have enjoyed your channel. Stage Right is the name of the amp sold by Monoprice. It comes with a 2 spring reverb. Was very simple and inexpensive to chang it to a 3 spring reverb. May upgrade the speaker at some point. All in all, a lot of amp for the money. Thank you for all of the information you share. You deserve a good old southern "Atta Boy" for a job well done.
Thanks for the review. You put a lot of effort into your videos and it shows. I'm impressed this amp has an effects loop when some $1000 Fender amps do not.
Bought mine new 10/4/2023 . Sold my 100w Katana mk2 which I loved to pay a bill. Then bought this. It's fantastic ! Yes non of the Katanas great features . But as a bare bones cheap as it can be ... Wow the tone of the HB15 BLOWS the Katana out the water. Really enjoying this channel right now.
Cheers Dave, yes this SG is awesome and combined these two make a fantastic rig.... if you have yet to scratch the tube amp itch I highly recommend this! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas , hello my new friend, I just recently found your channel here in the state of Missouri in the middle of the United States of America and I am getting addicted to your great videos !!! I to really love the look of your SG and I’d love to know the model number and possible cost and source to buy one, maybe your other couple of guitars as well, thank you, stay well and God bless you.
On the strength of your review I picked up a second hand one of these for £75 plus a bit of petrol money to collect ! So glad I did as it sounds amazing ! I also have a Yamaha THR10 and although it’s very good it just can’t compete tone wise - in particular when the tube amp pushes from clean into slight gain - it’s a good job it has the 1w setting though as 15w is way to loud for using at home if you have neighbours ! Thanks for yet another great review !
Another great review! 4 months ago i was contemplating on buying this amp. Ultimately i chose the egnater rebel 30 secondhand for 300€. I love mine, but still impressed with the tube 15! Keep it up Colin!
Hi Colin. What a great sounding little amp! I’m actually very surprised. And simple too. I don’t see how you could wrong with that. Great review as usual 👍. On a side note, that Les Paul with the mad Murray’s….. man that sounded good 👌
Cheers Paul, yes it's amazing for the money when you consider what we can (and have!) spend on tube amps. Glad you liked those pickups man.... nice and chewy eh?!! 😆👍
@@theguitaristas Yes indeed! You might know I like to busk on the streets at this time of year…. so I’ve been rehearsing my busking set (Santana, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore etc). Happy days 🤘😊
I believe you are correct that this is a re-badged / re-housed Laney Cub 15R from the original run about 12 or 13 years ago. I bought one of those Cubs as it was (at the time) the cheapest tube combo with a 12" driver and I was not disappointed. It sounds good no matter how you set it and makes a very fine studio or small gig combo. I put a V30 in mine a few years ago and it sounds even better now. I would definitely recommend upgrading the driver, even though it already sounds great. A brilliant little amp and an absolute steal at a hair over 200 quid.
Had one of these for 9 months now and all I can say is amazing plus... there are none on the secondhand market which - to me - speaks volumes. Loads of Katanas and Line 6s or course, but the Tube15 seems to be the amp people buy and - at such a low price - decide to keep around regardless. Had a Marshall Origin 5C which was a nice one trick pony - Marshall sounds on a budget - but when you've gigged for 20+ years with a real 70s Bluesbreaker... its not the same with an 8" speaker. Much lighter than a Bluesbreaker though lol - however, the Tube15 is more versatlie and love the reverb even if I did swap out the 2 spring tank for a 3 spring our of personal preference which is easy as hell to do.
Right, so this is the second video of yours that inspires me to buy new gear! The other one being an Epiphone Casino (went with natural finish, found a very good deal). I was torn between this and a Blues Junior, but I've had my eye on this one for the added features alone. I finally decided for this one and ordered it from the US Amazon website, they don't ship it to where I live (Mexico) so will have to get around importing it. Should be here in a couple of weeks and I just can't wait after watching your video. I read on the comments on another video that these amps are made at the same factory in China that manufactures certain amps for Laney, and in fact that's why the first version of this amp resembled the Cub 12 so much and even had the name printed on the PCB (personally I think the first look was better, I kinda prefer the control panel on the top).
I bought the mono price version of this amp a couple of years ago. It does have hums and buzzes that my more expense tube amps don't have but I do still use it and it certainly worth the 2 bills. Love your Channel.
I bought my Stage Right direct from Monoprice three years ago. The first one arrived with a defective speaker. I shipped it back to them at no charge, and had a brand new replacement within the week. That is truly excellent customer service. As is often the case, they're currently out of stock - and now cost US $280 new.
Thanks for the good demo. I looked at five other demo videos of the HB Tube 15 and they all had multiple pedals in front of the amp basically making it impossible to hear the different tones.
Excellent job as usual, Colin. I really like mine, though I find that the tone knobs are more interactive than I was used to. Mine also seems a lot more bassy, but with darker guitars I have an EQ pedal that fixes everything. This amp is VERY loud, and I have used it with a full band quite effectively, but it also sounds good at low volumes in the house. It's a winner!
That initial SG tone~11:35 I found reminiscent of Lifeson "fly by night"; the mad Murray's are ballsy,; and, Colin, you made a rose bloom in my heart when you slipped that Floyd in there on that tele. Solid demo.
I learn something new every week! I might have to get one of these. You mentioned modeling amps and the ones I've tried all sound like crap to me. I just plug my pedal board straight into my Marshall 100 watt combo amp. I don't own a tube amp but this seems just about right. By the way, that Tokai sounds absolutely filthy! (a compliment)
I bought mine last year, and i can't see myself replacing it for many years to come.. If you want to add some flavor, plug a Multi-effects unit into the FX Loop and select a different amp model (Fender Deluxe for instance). It marries all the tube qualities of the Monoprice 15w, and adds different tones! Anyways, thx for this review, epic as always 👌
Hello. That’s a hat I intend to do. Can you please share how you did the wires? Do you go: guitar into input of multi effects and then output of multi effect into effects loop return of amp?
I want that amp but can't get it with a 1x12 in the USA. I would use two of those live for sure on stands on course. I watched the upgrade video on the Tokai. Nice video. That's a great tone you got with that Epi with nothing but a bit of verb. Excellent it is.
Many thanks, Colin. By the way, I just came across something you might be interested in... I decided to buy Guitar Center's exclusive Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s Limited Edition--Transparent Blue (also offered by their subordinate company Musician's Friend's) and made the purchase online. I received it yesterday and was stunned to find look-alike Wilkinson tuners (they look just like the Grover 102C model). It also had ultra narrow frets. Epiphone's website states the Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s comes with medium-jumbo frets and Grover Rotomatic tuners. Guitar Center's website states their limited edition version comes with "vintage tuners" and "vintage frets". I took it to my local GC and they couldn't believe it either. I pulled an Epi LP Standard 60s off their wall and it had Wilkinson tuners on it too. They gladly returned my funds and were still trying to figure out what was going on when I left. So, in your travels keep an eye out for that one. Hope all is well. Cheers.
Cheers Gus, that's a puzzle.... are Epiphone using Wilkinson hardware on some models now perhaps? Maybe this Ltd edition has come from a different factory 🤔
I’m enjoying catching up on some of your videos. Always liked the 335, LP, and Tele. Never cared for the SG until I picked up a cheap one at GC. Bought an Epiphone SG Standard that was my favorite until I bought my first Gibson LP and then I was spoiled. Instead of buying a new Harley-Davison I bought some guitars. Think I have most variations of the SG now.
I just bought one of these amps used and it sounds amazing especially with a volume pedal in the effects loop, great overdriven sounds without pi$$ing off the neighbours!
I have a laney cub12 with a celestion greenback in it, sounds great and it's extremely quiet at lower volume, really good for bedroom gigs and the funny thing is i still prefer my old fender frontman 15 that i swapped the speaker not too long ago, for me it's more convinient
Well , after following your videos, and buying a Gibson lp junior, and (probably my best buy ever) an Epiphone coronet....I've done it again and ordered one of these amps. Pretty confident this will make it a 3 out of 3 great purchases. Thanks for the channel, extremely useful and fantastically entertaing! Keep up the good work please
Brilliant! I actually went on to the Thomann website and bought one while you were talking. I play a tele (MiM, player ed) and although your pups will be different than my standard 2022 Fender ones, you were playing the sound I want. I have a Spark modelling amp, and it is great for bedroom practice, I think it would be too fiddley for gigging. Looking forward to trying it out with my Tele, and my archtop Gretsch. I have subscribed as well, I like your no-nonsense approach, and it is great to hear an English voice.
Hello Colin, thanks for another super look at a bit of kit. I have an Harley Benton cab and head. The head is the older GA5 with 2 x 10 inch matching Cab with celestions in it. It's only 5 watts as the name suggests but it sounds great. It's a Fender Champ for all intensive purposes, it's plain to see. It was what i paid for it. It's like a magnolia Tolex in exellent condition and i won it on Ebay 50 quid, i was the only bidder. I felt for the guy when i went to pick it up, it was virtualy new. I chucked him another 30 quid, it didn't feel right. Anyway i use mine and although it's only 5 watts it's enough to make the neighbours moan if i use it without the Attenuator. I don't think i'll have another but i'll always stop by to give you some support. Thanks Col 🙏 Long live the Arse Looper 🤘
Awesome Preview my freind. As always you knock it out of the park with your Demos. Thinking about checking this out now . I respect your opinions on gear alot Colin. Cheers Brother, Thomas from Idaho
I just bought the Monoprice version of this can’t wait to check it out. My normal rig is a vintage Fender twin but the Mrs. hates it when I make the floor shake from down in my basement. 😂😂😂
In 2002 I picked up a used Laney LC15 for £85, and in 2012 another for £80. Very giggable 15watt 1x10" combos, from which the Monoprice/Harley Benton was derived. They lack the 1 watt setting and effects loop, but a great introduction the "British" tone tube amps for very little cash.
Not sure how I missed this review. I wound up buying one of these earlier this year as my first tube amp. Probably would have gotten it even sooner if I had seen this!
Yes the laney cub is made for different brands. I bought a monoprice 8 inch tube amp for around 99.00 dollars u.s. about 7 years ago. its a great little amp. same circuit as the laney cub 8
I bought the monoprice one it’s the same accept it doesn’t have that blinking annoying red light I’m usa so I’d need a plug adapter I’m happy to have mine I paid $250.00 delivered to my door I’m happy to own it I have a harly Benton dcfat in red mahogany which I love I actually plug it in this amp today great tones I like your channel and playing cheers from upstate ny
great video as usual....personally my Fender Pro Jr. and an old Line 6 POD xt....great combo that combines decent amps and effects and into a tube amp....best of both worlds for my needs
When you mentioned how uncomfortable that Les Paul was after playing the SG I laughed so hard here while I’m having my morning coffee here 🤣 I totally feel the same way!!!! The Les Paul is definitely more comfortable from a standing position, mine is a Standard 60’s style without any weight relief, mines about 9 pounds on the nose which isn’t even that bad considering some are 10 - 11 - 12 pounds! For me, the damn thing always feels like the ass end of it is going to flop backwards off my lap lol! Hence why I typically reach for my SG, especially if I’m practicing sitting down 🤙
I had a 10lb LP, and like you I felt that the balance was bottom heavy when seated. Sold it and bought a LP ES Pro (LP with ES 335 semi-hollow construction), 7lb and nicely balanced...love that guitar*. I had an SG for a while, good weight and great access to upper frets but the perceived 'long neck' always felt odd changing between guitars (LP, Strat,Tele) so recently sold it. *Although upper fret access is poor compared to SG/Strat/Tele.
@@SaxJockey , aye… that extended feel on the neck of the SG’s can feel a bit wonky at first ( especially if you’re playing around the 1st thru the first 3-4 frets ) but I’ve gotten used to it and now when I grab a LP that feels odd now since I’m usually playing the SG 😄. The only real thing about them I’m not too fond of is the location of the neck side strap button when standing, it sort of feels as if the guitar wants to tilt forward at the top of it. That takes some getting used to imo 🤙
Yeah, I had a very long term itch to get a lefty LP, mainly being a strat guy. It does not feel great sitting and is too heavy. Went for a 335 as replacement which is actually more comfortable then the LP despite being a huge body in comparison (hmm where can I get a lefty 339.....)
First, I want to say that I’m really enjoying your reviews. Second, I had same amp 2.5 years ago, bought it for band practice. Then starde all the sh**t with covid and I must sell it. Orded a new one yesterday again (I have a short video on my channel with it and Harley Benton Te-52) Third, totalt agree with you about Epiphone SG. It is my favourite budget friendly guitar ever (I reviewed it one year ago, when I bought it for 200€ used). And the last thing, keep doing good job. 🙂👍🏼🎸
Hi Colin Great, entertaining review.....well they all are really. I bought mine a few weeks ago and love it, love it, love it! Can confirm to everyone that they take pedals really well. Even the send and return sounds good with pedals. Got my volume pedal tacked into this and gives me control over the whole sound I.e. pedals in the front end and volume...well you know. The 1 watt button is really useful and as you said, it's a really loud amp. I gig with it and mic it up with my SM57 into the P.A. perfect! I don't take my Twin Reverb much anymore to gigs, only when I think I need that extra volume. The onboard speaker disconnects when you plug into another cab, so people may need to know this. All in all the best bang for buck and a genuine member of the valve/tube amp gang. Fantastic vids, keep em coming, Fridays wouldn't be the same without them. In the mood for a noodle now so ta ta, see you next Friday. Colin....that's me not you
Cheers Col, good to hear that you gig with it... I was originally going to plug it into the 4 x 12 but it didn't seem to need it, plus I complete forgot about adding volume control in the fx loop which as you suggest would give it an even greater versatility. Thanks man have a great weekend! 😎👍
I changed speaker (vintage60) spring tank and tubes (SovTek). It's a $ 990 amp now :) Edit 8/2023: It is still my main amp. For a low price you can extend the sound by using DNAfx git effects (via send/return ports)
Wow, I play a Blues Junior exclusively because it delivers the tone that I love. That little amp is amazing for the price. I should grab one as a backup and for gigs so I don't have to worry about damaging my Blues JR. Thanks Colin!😊
They make a head now, you can stick it on top of your amp as backup, I plan on doing that for something a little different then my regular amp. Eventually I want to put creamback in my cab and then I can use the old speaker as a second cab for the "little" amp.
im glad i watched this review mate! you covered this amp nicely! some ppl might turn theyr nose up at a 15watt amp but lemme tell ya...the guy that hosted "blues tuesday" brought a couple of blues jr amps and im here to say that lil bugger will blow you outta the joint haha! the "vintera clone" bridge pup rokked up today and fit nicely in the bridge AND the "butterscratch" squier affy tele! so now on to reassembling her and officially shes staying a member of the "stable"! makes me feel better about things lol! ill need to pick up some strings on my way home from work tomorro...i think im onto an "in between" guage thats between 9 and 10 guage...the douglas has a set on and i really like how they play...
After seeing and hearing your guitar playing I had to stick around to the end. :P Then while watching I found out you were also a comic! Great review! I subscribed.
thanks for the review! I have one too, but unfortunately, it just stopped working (won't turn on) and I haven't used it for a year. One day I will open it up to try to figure out what's wrong. loved it when it worked. took my pedals well. right now, I'm back to my old vox modeling amp, but my vox doesn't take my pedals well... :(
I’ve never been able to keep a modeling amp. There’s just something about tube amps that nobody has gotten just right. And it isn’t the sound, it’s the feel. I do most of my playing at home through a classic Fender Champ and have a Marshall half stack and Princeton for performances.
It can't be modeled perfectly because it random and unpredictable. The exact same input would sound different. It's why you wouldn't want a tube stereo it wouldn't faithfully reproduce what's on the CD. With a guitar it's desirable that the amp colours the sound. And while a transistor amp cam sound extremely good it'll always do the same for the same input. I think that's what gives you the "character" and "feel". A transistor amp can replicate a particular tube sound but it can't have the variety of sounds possible with a tube amp, it can recreate particular types of it. Like a setting on a Plexi. But it can't have the broad cariety of sounds of such an amp (but modeling gets really close). Dunno if in modeling they add some randomised gain patterns to replicate what a tube amp does, which by stereo standards is not behaving like a good amp.
Love my Tube 15. I recently made it my own by changing the grill cloth and putting in a LaVoce WSF121.70G-8 speaker (not a common speaker but a 16 Ohm version of the same speaker is being used in the Orange Tremlord 30 Combo). I also started experimenting with different tubes. Interestingly, I set my tone controls completely opposite to yours, my ears are pretty allergic to piercing top end bite so I tend to roll that off as much as I can.
@@MOAB-UT It has an external speaker jack so you can use a 8-16 ohm cab with it but that will disconnect the internal speaker. So you will have to do a mod if you want to run both at the same time. You can probably safely connect the internal 8 ohm speaker to an 8 ohm cab (in series for a total of 16 ohm) but as mentioned you will have to get your soldering iron out if that's something you want to pursue.
I ended up buying one of these as my first amplifier and an Epiphone 59 based on your reviews and sir I can’t thank you enough for that ! 🔥🔥

What makes you think it's LC15 rather than Cub? I've always thought it's the Cub as Colin says.
Hi, I bought this amp about one year ago. I love it especially for the clean tones. With my Telecaster (HH) is perfect. In my opinion it's impossible to buy some tube amp for this price so good as this one.
Hello, did you try to plugin some pedals? Did the amp support it
@@mohamedouni538 I use the amp wit fuzz and overdrive directly in main input and tremolo & Delay in the sen and return. Everyone work well
Colin, I can't say thank you enough!
Thanks man that's appreciated! 🙏😊
What a bargain
Thanks for the demo that amp sounds great! I love the finish on your SG, beautiful color!
I wanted a little tube-amp myself. I bought a Vox AC-10 & I love it.
This little amp sounds amazing for the price. More then 1/2 less than I paid for my Vox.
Yes that AC10 is great... bloody loud though eh? 🤣👍
I have just ordered this amp (2 yrs after your video. ). I used to have the old Epi LP 61 Special in TV Yellow with P90s (which was an SG shape). Great guitar. Gnarley!
Another great video Colin, a good value amp packed with all the features you might need. What’s not to like, brilliant.
I’m blown away. Sounds great. The eq seems very musical, not harsh or useless as per the norm in Lo budget gear. Gain is nice. Reverb is actually rather good. And it runs pretty darn clean. Really impressed.
Yes it's a really surprising little amp! 👍
I am very glad that you like this amp. I use it for almost all guitar demos on my own little channel. True, it does it all.
You somehow always manage to review things EXACTLY when I’m thinking about buying them. Great review as always Sir 😎
😆👍
He does the same thing for me!!!
God Save the Queen and Jimmy Jazz in one video! I have been using the Stageright version of this amp for a year now with no problems. It keeps up with a drum kit at open-mics great. Fantastic sounding amp.
I love these reviews. I love them. Even the sticker thing in the control panel is so natural/honest/lovely/old way… love it.
Gotta say, watching you dial in your tone was very interesting
How loud is it compared to the Katana?
@@markg9254 to loud
This little amp can definitely compete with my Marshall DSL40CR. Has great cleans and dirt I love it for the price!!!!!
Not from what I heard - at least not with my Marshall 40CR.
That SG is incredible for the price they charge for it. Great stuff as always, have to get one of these amps now!
@@theguitaristas Chewy 🤣. Yeah, I should trademark that expression! Cheers Colin, looking forward to the next one already.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Cheers mate have a good weekend... are you gearing up for the return of Edinburgh festival madness??

I believe you are correct that this is a re-badged / re-housed Laney Cub 15R from the original run about 12 or 13 years ago. I bought one of those Cubs as it was (at the time) the cheapest tube combo with a 12" driver and I was not disappointed. It sounds good no matter how you set it and makes a very fine studio or small gig combo. I put a V30 in mine a few years ago and it sounds even better now. I would definitely recommend upgrading the driver, even though it already sounds great. A brilliant little amp and an absolute steal at a hair over 200 quid.
Cheers Adam, I've been using this ever since and it sounds so good I'm almost afraid to change anything!
Perfect amp for people just starting out playing. i wish things like this were around when i started playing.
Another great video, I know its been said before but so good to see the quality of affordable gear and honest reviews.
Cheers Ben! 🙏😎
AstronomyDomine too!
Youre killing it today man!
Cheers man! 😆👍
Warching from Bali mate, stoked to see this video. Cheers
Nice one! 😎👍 Cheers mate 🍻
Cheers Martin, that's true... I looked on Reverb and there are none for sale! 😎👍
I bought one of these a couple of months ago on super special (66% Off) absolutely love it!
Another great review Colin! I own the Stage Right monoprice and love it!
Mine is quiet
Bought it, love it. Full power in my living room, amazing unbelievable sound for the money!
😁👍🔥
I bought my Stage Right direct from Monoprice three years ago. The first one arrived with a defective speaker. I shipped it back to them at no charge, and had a brand new replacement within the week. That is truly excellent customer service. As is often the case, they're currently out of stock - and now cost US $280 new.
Been mulling over having a go at the tube amp world , so found this very useful ,thanks again
Thanks mate. I bought it last year and it became my staple amp
Nice one! 😎👍
Your playing was on fire today, I really enjoyed it!
Thanks that’s appreciated! 😎👍
Thanks for the good demo. I looked at five other demo videos of the HB Tube 15 and they all had multiple pedals in front of the amp basically making it impossible to hear the different tones.
Colin, you are the man! This channel is awesome.
I appreciate that! 😁👍
I also put a custom badge on the front in Marshall type font that says "Marshmallow"
Cheers Ethan!
Nice touch!! 👍
Also, loved your idea of using electrical tape and some labels to make the knob functions visible!
came for the demo, got a treat of Astronomy Domine
I couldn't miss an opportunity like that! 😆👍
@@theguitaristas One of my early PF favorites!
Love your channel for the obvious joy you get from messing around with guitars :)
Cheers man! 😆👍
Sounds surprisingly good! Thanks for all the hard work.
That initial SG tone~11:35 I found reminiscent of Lifeson "fly by night"; the mad Murray's are ballsy,; and, Colin, you made a rose bloom in my heart when you slipped that Floyd in there on that tele. Solid demo.
😎👍👍
Cheers man, yes providing it lasts it seems to do all you need! 😎👍
Cheers man!… I think you can get monoprice 1x12 in USA which is same 👍
Many thanks, Colin.
Great Video, Col' , been looking forward to this review. I'm gonna get one. So thank you !

Nice one Howard, I reckon it will do what you want let me know how you get on with it! Cheers for the sub and support it's appreciated 😎👍
Good test, thank you. Indeed re-badged, there are tests in the USA without HB noted. I'm one, I really like it. Your Tokai is great.
This is a man whose reviews I can trust
Thanks Col 🙏

I just bought the Monoprice version of this can’t wait to check it out. My normal rig is a vintage Fender twin but the Mrs. hates it when I make the floor shake from down in my basement. 😂😂😂
Excellent review , covered all the tones, loved the Tele PF sound.

I don't think the M/HBs are LC15 derived as much as they are Cub 12 derived. But yes--the LC15s were really nice!
@@eichaan I second that as I have the Cub12...
Not sure how I missed this review. I wound up buying one of these earlier this year as my first tube amp. Probably would have gotten it even sooner if I had seen this!
Yes the laney cub is made for different brands. I bought a monoprice 8 inch tube amp for around 99.00 dollars u.s. about 7 years ago. its a great little amp. same circuit as the laney cub 8

great video as usual....personally my Fender Pro Jr. and an old Line 6 POD xt....great combo that combines decent amps and effects and into a tube amp....best of both worlds for my needs
Mine arrived broken so I built a 2x12 cab for it and added a v30 speaker. Changed one of the tubes for a lower gain and now it's amazing😀
Good work! 😎👍
When you mentioned how uncomfortable that Les Paul was after playing the SG I laughed so hard here while I’m having my morning coffee here 🤣
I totally feel the same way!!!!
Orded a new one yesterday again (I have a short video on my channel with it and Harley Benton Te-52)
Third, totalt agree with you about Epiphone SG. It is my favourite budget friendly guitar ever (I reviewed it one year ago, when I bought it for 200€ used).
And the last thing, keep doing good job. 🙂👍🏼🎸
Hi Colin
Great, entertaining review.....well they all are really.
I have this amp. Its very loud and good for gigging. Love it.
Wow, I play a Blues Junior exclusively because it delivers the tone that I love. That little amp is amazing for the price. I should grab one as a backup and for gigs so I don't have to worry about damaging my Blues JR. Thanks Colin!😊
Ive got both, you’re gonna like it better than your bj.
They make a head now, you can stick it on top of your amp as backup, I plan on doing that for something a little different then my regular amp. Eventually I want to put creamback in my cab and then I can use the old speaker as a second cab for the "little" amp.
Looks like good value to me. I was tempted by one of their cabs.
By the way - that tele is gorrrrgeous
im glad i watched this review mate!
you covered this amp nicely!
some ppl might turn theyr nose up at a 15watt amp but lemme tell ya...the guy that hosted "blues tuesday" brought a couple of blues jr amps and im here to say that lil bugger will blow you outta the joint haha!

Aloha and Mahalo Colin! Great video. Tube amps got the sound and feel. Tube amps tend to be a little loud but thats rock and roll and I like it.

I have the monoprice stage right version as i live in canada it's an incredibly good amp for the price
😎👍
Love my Tube 15. I recently made it my own by changing the grill cloth and putting in a LaVoce WSF121.70G-8 speaker (not a common speaker but a 16 Ohm version of the same speaker is being used in the Orange Tremlord 30 Combo). I also started experimenting with different tubes. Interestingly, I set my tone controls completely opposite to yours, my ears are pretty allergic to piercing top end bite so I tend to roll that off as much as I can.
Cheers man, I expect my ears are probably a bit knackered now too and roll off the top end themselves! 😆👍
Can I run another cab off of it at the same time so 2 speakers? The other one is in my Katana 12" 8ohm speaker.
@@ThorRavnsborg Thanks!
