Great reactions to The Doors! Loved seeing your take on this great album.
Now that you have listened to The End you should next watch the academy award winning film Apocalypse Now to see how Francis Ford Coppola used the song in his movie about Captain Willard hunting down Colonel Kurtz with the Vietnam War as the backdrop.

Really enjoyed your reactions to this album. In the summer of 1980, my brother brought home the compilation album "Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine" and my Doors adventure started when I heard "The End"; melted my poor little 12-year old mind but in the best way possible.

Oedipus Jim. LoL. So this all caused quite the stir back in the day. Authorities were aware of the content and they were up front about consequences of violating the day's "decency" standards. To which Jim often responded by pulling his junk out in front of the whole crowd and not holding back lyrics. Absolute rebel legend. There would be lines of police in front of and behind the stage to control the crowd and Jim lol. The blue bus at the time refers to the military busses taking draftees away to war or prisoners to prison iirc.

    • @BernardoCup98

Actually he didn't show anything he just simulated, that's what the other band members said. And doesn't the blue bus refers to that accident he saw as a kid with the bus full of indians? I interpreted that way, but i might be wrong.

They went to UCLA, the blue bus was infamous for taking students off campus, no one knew where they were going or when they'd get to where they wanted to go.

They added to The End throughout their whole run. Live in New York has a 20 minute version. I'd love to see you guys react to their other albums, or a concert. Jim was one hell of a showman. I know the Hollywood Bowl is on youtube in its full form. Great show.

I like your in depth analysis of this song! You might want to read John Densmore's autobiography "Riders on the Storm" he explains his origins and that of the band and lots of insight into Jim's psyche and his complex relation with someone who was for a while his roommate and bandmate.

Some of the lyrics are from the 1780s-ish, from a poem by William Blake - “summer born to ….” and the “realms…” stanzas at least.

Jim never said he wanted to kill his parents. This is a reference to Greek mythology. They changed this song every time they played it. Jim would throw stuff in and take it out. They were fired from the Whisky when they did the kill the father part. They never played it that way before. ruclips.net/video/eE2cVA5yi4U/видео.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

I suggest that you review these albums the sequence of their release then you can really feel how the group evolved in every facet. Then you will understand why The Doors were the best four man band in concept, arrangements, composition ..., They were the best American band by far. Take it easy, take the albums as they come, you'll be moving much too fast.
The Doors released a single in '69 and within a few days it was banned from air play from every radio station in the USA because of the anti- war video released with the song, Unknown Soldier.
A band of great relevance of the time.

They didn't have an album when he sang those words that got them fired, they were signed to record deals after. The song originally started as 3 minutes, they kept adding to it over time 😁odeipus....the short part of the beginning of the song and the end part of the song were original to a old girlfriend. And the Vietnam War and opedius part were added in

I totally disagree with your breakdown of Jim’s lyrics. Almost all of Jim’s songs are referencing how he is a man born to the night. That is when he is alive. He’s not a regular person who lives during the day and goes to sleep at night. I’m sure you’ve noticed his lyrics talk about Sun and daytime or moon and nighttime. He’s very dark even when he’s at his best.

But the art with a, capital A fell away from rock for dull Stadium rocktium. It's de jai vue for old men 2022-2024 is the actual End. A thing called death. RIP.
