    This was their best performance of the "R & J" number. Had she landed the throw 2A perfectly, it could easily have been the best FS in history, because of the choreography, costume, their youth, speed & flow. It was a much more mature program compared to the previous numbers. Marina Zueva did a great job, Bravo !!

      Also...Katya singled the 2A in their multi-jump combination. Sergei hit it. I had to watch it again to notice it. But really, who cares. They are just so wonderful. And that step-through overhead they do...one of my all-time favorite lifts. So difficult and they make it look so easy.

      TheSaltyMahwah I never noticed that! Thank you 🙂 Romeo and Juliet is about young lovers besotted with one another. As this was there last LP before turning professional, marrying, having a baby, experiencing the fall of the Soviet Union transitioning to Russia, moving to the US...and then they returned to amateur skating with Moonlight Sonata as their LP, portraying their path to adulthood, the deepening and expansion of their love, that includes the bonds of parenthood...ahhh, the connection is blissful. ❤️

    No she wasn't 79 pounds or 4 foot 8, either. The announcer had that very screwed up. Two years before at the Olympics, she was 84 pounds and 5 foot tall. She grew and became a woman, obviously you can tell from looking.

    • @lisastiles1408
      @lisastiles1408 5 лет назад +6

      Carla Iris And Sergei grew, too. Height, and filled out muscularly, too. 🙂🙂

    • @lisastiles1408
      @lisastiles1408 5 лет назад +10

      Carla Iris Yes, I think she was close to 5’ tall then and 90 lbs. She had loss some weight just prior to Calgary, from being ill, some loss of conditioning when she had to rest with a stress fracture, and “some sense” or expectation that she was supposed to lose some weight for the Olympics. She said she started the 87-88 Olympic season at a perfectly reasonable 90 lbs, but dropped by four to 86 lbs, the weight you remember. I think she’s a little taller here than in Calgary, and whatever weight she was at with the new height, I thought looked great on her. Certainly 90 lbs or more, still very slender, and petite, but also stronger, less fragile, and more of a woman’s shape that detracted nothing from her technical skills. In fact, I don’t know if she could have been landing the side by side triples consistently without the extra power her greater mass and muscle brought her.

    • @StargazerLily82
      @StargazerLily82 3 года назад +2

      Exactly. I actually came here to post this. During the Olympics, they talked about how she was in the 80s, in terms of weight, and here you can tell she's definitely more filled out and proportionate. She was very lanky in Calgary, and had the body of a woman here.

      Tessa and Scott are great, but to me G & G are still the top. Their lines are long and beautiful. Seemingly so much ease and grace. The perfect amount of drama in their expressions, never overdone. Of course, I feel the use of classical music allows for their programs to build with the arc of a story. The popular music that Virtue and Moir use maintains the same level of dramatic intensity throughout: much less interesting, i.m.o. Many of today's skaters have such frenetic use of their arms ( though not V and M). I find it distracting and lacking in musicality.
