CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Maharet (Lena Olin) and Lestat (Stuart Townsend) defeat and kill Akasha (Aaliyah).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The second and third novels in author Anne Rice's popular book series The Vampire Chronicles provide the inspiration for this horror sequel starring ill-fated actress and recording artist Aaliyah, who was killed in an airplane crash before the film's release. Stuart Townsend is the vampire Lestat, who has awakened from a century-long slumber and turned his considerable energy to rock music. His vampirism identity mistaken for a gothic hard rock publicity stunt along the lines of Kiss or Marilyn Manson, he quickly becomes a pop music sensation. Lestat's powerful music reaches the ear of the slumbering Akasha (Aaliyah), the millennia-old "queen of the vampires" who was the first immortal bloodsucker. Akasha is soon free and embarking on a quest to seize control of the world with Lestat at her side. In the meantime, Lestat becomes an object of fascination for Jesse Reeves (Marguerite Moreau), member of a secret order studying the supernatural called the Talamasca, and a band of ancient vampires come together in an effort to stop Akasha, even though her destruction could potentially cause their own deaths. Queen of the Damned co-stars Lena Olin and Vincent Perez.

The look on her face when Maharet approached. Akasha was the oldest of the Vampires. Many Vampires had deified her. She'd come to believe herself a Goddess. But Marharet, Lestat, Marius, and the other ancient vampires reminded Akasha of the most basic truth of life. Eventually anything living must perish. Vampires are ageless, but nothing is truly immortal.

One of the best comments ever.
Love this comment!
She was MILLIONS of years old. She was going to turn to dust eventually. And she was EVIL.
And despite their power they were always vulnerable!
They almost didn't release this movie but they got consent from Aaliyah's family because they knew how proud she was of her work and she would have wanted it. But what's chilling to me is how her death scene depicted her real death. She was found in a fetal position with her hair completely burned off and her skin charred. Rest in peace, baby girl. You'll never be forgotten.
So she suffered?
@@aten5102 It's hard to say, she died in a plane crash due to the plane being overloaded and the pilot being coked up and drunk, not to mention not actually being qualified to fly that type of aircraft. The plane crashed not long after takeoff. Aaliyah was, fortunately and unfortunately, unconscious at this point, so we can only hope she didn't suffer.
The reason she was unconscious was because she was slipped a sedative and taken onto the plane while unconscious, she actually didn't want to board the plane because there had been arguments between her entourage and the pilot, with the pilot saying the plane was too overloaded and it was not safe to fly. Aaliyah refused to board and sat in a taxi claiming she had a headache, it was part of her entourage that went to check on her and slipped her a sedative.
So, while she hopefully did not suffer, she was unfortunately a victim of manslaughter -- while her entourage didn't know the plane would crash, they still pressured the pilots to fly anyway and took Aaliyah against her will onto the plane. It was just a very sad state of affairs, she was incredibly young, only 22 years old.
@@caramellpanda This is very sad. I always believed it was a collective disincarnation, as we say here in Brazil, collective deaths due to karma, but from what I see Aaliyah died due to an accident. It was negligence. She felt the strong unease, it was unconscious of her warning not to get on that plane, because it was not her time to leave. Many say it was Beyonce.
@@caramellpanda I remember Dame Dash saying she called him and was saying how uncomfortable she felt about getting on the plane. He said he told her not to. Its just horrible.
@@aten5102 It breaks my heart knowing she suffered 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Her dying screams were so eerie. It started with her screams, but began to sound like the cries of her victims. I hated that she died. Akasha was an incredibly interesting character.
she was very misunderstood
I kinda wish we saw more of Enkill in the story but unfortunately he died. That's why I liked watching her die, he was her husband and she threw him away out of boredom.
Her last interviews she did seem eerie its was like she was trying to tell us she feel some kinda way uneasy about something not knowing of an then that situation happened, DMX tribute song to her always stands out its been long enough hopefully the family come to terms an release more of her music she still had she classic r&b she an never out of style🔥 💯🙏
If you think she was interesting here, you should read the book. They gave Aaliyah a small fraction of the character. SO much was lost in the movie.... It's sad
@@MACsToyBox in the book she was pretty much a flat villain corrupted by power, who also threw her husband away.
This scene is still really well done. Even 17 years later the CGI is still damn good
Her death haunts me to this day. She was amazing. Rest in 🕊️ Peace Aaliyah. This is my favorite movie of all time. The soundtrack was amazing and her performance was phenomenal.
Sacrificed
I prefer Romeo must die. She and Jet Li have amazing chemistry
This is legitimately the most sensually atmospheric death I have ever seen in a film. Aaliyah was truly a goddess of unparalleled beauty and allure
uhhhh what ?
The fact lestat chose a basic Becky over an Egyptian vampire goddess is beyond me.
It’s about how they make you feel
Iraqi*
well, in the book he chose David xddd
IN LESTAT'S DEFENSE which is something i thought i d never say, the egyptian vampire goddess killed her last partner and wants to keep humanity like cattle
@@mummeii LOL nice one
This movie perfectly captured Akasha's ego, her ambition and love of blood, Lestat power . Few movies completely capture the complexity of a female anti-hero with out falling into tropes this one brought book Akasha completely alive....
agreed
I loved it! Boo Hoo Bless Aliyaih She left us way to soon. :(,,,,,,,,,,,
This is actually pretty hard to watch considering how Aaliyah actually went from this world.
Ik man, it hurts deeply !!
she died in a plane crash. She wasn't reduced to ash by a bite
I agree
Full of demons when she died in this movie
@@cmolodiets i get what you're saying but they said she was badly burned from the fire from the plane exploding on impact and she basically died due to severe burns from her neck down and a blow to the head on the impact and most badly burned victims bodies turn black like that. That's probably what they meant by that since her body in this scene looked burnt.
I hate she died I swear if she was still alive I would love to see her in the Black Panther movie.
She would have had a bigger than life role for sure
Larry Banks She's much too soft and pretty for that role. They wanted EXTREMELY Afrocentric, masculine looking women for that movie. Not saying they're not beautiful but it's a different look.
@Erik Cobra Kai never Dies yss
Nina Victoria soft ??? Have you seen this movie She litterally ripped out a mans heart and ate it they didn’t even do that kinda stuff in black panther I feel like she could’ve pulled it off lol
The actual actress Alliah was so talented, she would have made so many shows and movies that much more enjoyable.
She passed away far too soon
It's like they saved the best cgi money for the ending sequence
Man I gotta tell you, you are totally right... it is like they saved it for the ending, because all the rest sucks...
Lol 😂 yea that scene with her coming out the burning bar was so bad. Looked like they used MS Paint 🤣 this was a beautiful shot though, they definitely spent everything on just this.
And it was still awful and nothing like the source material
I hope that's sarcasm lol
They look like now instagram influencers
R.I.P Aaliyah & Akasha
Vegeta solo You will truly be missed!

Vampires
I didn’t realize she was played by Aaliyah! 😭😭
@ThomasTekno A late reply but Akasha IS dead. If you have read the books you would know that Akasha was decapitated and her heart eaten by Maharet's twin sister, Mekare. Akasha became the first vampire after an assassination attempt(when she was living) left her on the edge of death and a blood loving spirit, Amel, combined with her, making her the vampire Queen. By eating the heart, Mekare took the spirit into herself, becoming the new Queen and preventing the deaths of all vampires.
I like how the music transitions to some ancient egyptian-like melody as her body turns to bronze and then dust, a final reminder that she has come from a time long before the other civilizations had even begun and that her time has finally come to an end after being on earth for more than 5000 years....
well actually she was in cold storage for thousands of years. That's why she was so out of touch with the modern world.
@@slickchick5811 True, unlike Maharet who traced down her descendants and helped them over time. But still, even after being locked away and not awake for most, to have all the other ancients join forces and move against her just shows how powerful Akasha is, what more if she never slept through those years.
I'm glad that I'm not alone in my feelings of this being such a sad scene, even independent of Aaliyah's tragic death. I was heart broken the first time I watched this movie, only for it to be broken all over again after losing Aaliyah. She was so talented and far too young! Rest in peace, sweet angel!
As a kid I cried watching this part of the movie knowing this was her last movie role before she died
😪😪🙏🏽🙏🏽💔💔
the fact that this is better than twilight... is lowkey EXCELLENT
I'm pretty sure a half-eaten ham sandwich covered in mold you find in the dumpster is better than Twilight. :P
All joking aside, yes. This is much better than Twilight...and way, way sexier. ;)
I don't know, if you young at heart twilight is the bees nest, like puppy love.....
Couldn't be that much better if it crosses your mind whenever you watch any and every vampire movie
B.W. Most fans of Anne Rice hated this movie. The dialogue is cheesy too.
Can’t really say that this movie is better when twilight movies started in 2008..this was in 2002 tbh
Her real life death and movie death are kinda similar in a way. It is eerie to watch. I miss her presence. Her death was so unfair. She should still be here with us #ripaaliyah
Rest in peace to the great Queen mother 🕊🙏🏾
She wasn't burned to ashes
Marilyn King According to her autopsy, poor thing came pretty close
@@Kiddblu9 nope, no she didn't she was barely burned. They found her still looking beautiful
@@candanceelise6599 she was barely burned, if she was burned to unrecognition the autopsy would've stated so and idk if she had a heart attack i believe she just had heart failure from a weak heart after being in so much shock
I honestly felt bad for Akasha here. R.I.P Aaliyah.
I agree
Are you kidding me she’s worse then Prince Vlad Dracula. Tyrannical carnage Queen vs Maniac Vampire King.
Yeah but she was about to start committing genocide.
What is so ironic is the fact that Aaliyah portrays her death in the movie and right after she dies in real life. I was thinking about how crazy that realization was. R.I.P Aaliyah you were definitely one of the greats like Selena with so much star power and kindness.your life was cut short but not your soul✝️❤️
Same here that's why I find it hard to watch the movie again
Its no coincidence at all, its predictive programming, there is no such thing as "rest in peace" there is no rest, the soul either reincarnates or moves to a higher reality.
do you think illuminati killed her?
ScientistALRIII Beyoncé had her killed
Aliyah was with jay z before Beyonce, aliyah didnt want to take the blood oath, had her killed smdh.
This is kinda of beautiful and haunting at the same time. From dust we came and to dust we shall returneth, only she was lucky enough to have 7 plus millenniums in between both transitional periods.
She never should have woken up, or she would've had a few thousand more millenniums...
Honestly, she was the perfect Queen for this movie and she did a damn good job portraying and acting tf out this movie with what she had and was given to work with, but this movie could've been better overall. It could of been more accurate to the original story and more detailed with more scenes from Aaliyah too. She really did carry this movie! R.I.P Babygirl
She had the appearance but not the size and stature. It looked as if her gear was too big.

O MY GOODNESS I FREAKING WISH SHE WAS STILL HERE TO DO A QUEEEN OF THE DAMNED 2!!!!😭😭😭😥😥😥
Marilyn King and Romeo must die 2
they wouldn't have been able to do Queen of the Damned 2 anyway. This movie is based on a book in a series, So they couldn't have done it.
The movie flopped anyway so... There would be no sequel.
Lucy Love 😂
I hated the fact that Akasha was killed. Perhaps another book where she would come back to existence, showing that she is truly invincible. However, Aaliyah died and nobody could take her place in that role. Also, Tom Cruise should've been Lestat again.
@@latrolettteeeeeee this movie did not flop it was a number 1 movie in box office that year
This is the last scene of her dying in the movie is kind of creepy because in real life that’s how she died in the plane crash her body was so dark because of the Burns it’sactually creepy to think that something in a movie ended up becoming a reality
Gypsy Moon Yup. It’s creepy yet this scene did the Queen justice as a potential serious actress and not just as a musician with many hits destined to be timeless classics. But you know what? She went out a legend! Eternally immortal for generations to come. Just like Heath Ledger, Marylin Monroe and even James Dean, to name a few of many. Some suspect............ La magia.........be happy and do what you like.
L
She was barely burned by the crash
Marilyn King Real tragic. Glad she’s still remembered.
I heard she just suffered burns to her head though idk but yes it is very eerie
The unfortunate issue with this script was the core plan Akansha had compared to the book.
In the book, Akasha was going to kill 90% of the males to stop war and violence - which sort of made sense, if morally rubbish. It was sort of logical, though.
Akasha's rationale in the movie was utter nonsense. Vampires can't just wipe out their food source.
"The death of a queen" you ain't lying.☺🙌 I can't believe its almost been 20 years since her passing.
still a better love story than twilight

Imagine being so strong that even after a day in the sun, all you get is a little tan while a huge chuck of your descendants burned to ashes...that's Akasha!
RIP to Anne Rice for a great character, and to Aaliyah for bringing her to life on the silver screen.
This movie was cursed she died in the plane crash and her body was turned to ashes. Then in this movie she died the same way. They murdered her and this movie was a sneak peek to what was to come sadly.
This is painful to watch now knowing that she actually did die and we won't see her again.
It's really messed up to see her go again man there was lot of tears in movie theatres when this scene came
I'm just seeing this comment... I would've cried too 😢
Honestly think it was amazing Aaliyah was involved in something so far from the genre and style of what she was normally involved in. Kills me the girl went thru so much in her life and never got to live a long prosperous life that she deserved.
Ready to feel old and sad - this was 20 years ago. This dope movie came out and we lost an angel to Heaven. RIP Aaliyah

The fact that this movie was low key just an extended music video makes it better than half the major film vampire movies out there today... my dad let me see this when I was like 6 and I loved horror movies and vampires since although this scene freaked me out then...

Indeed she was. Hollywood is infested with satanic worship.
"In December 2002, Allan Menzies from West Lothian, Scotland, murdered one of his friends, Thomas McKendrick. He claimed in court that it was Aaliyah's character Queen Akasha from the film that told him to do it. He had become extremely obsessed with the film to the point where he had watched it over a 100 times (which according to some sources he had managed to watch it that many times in only a month) and would speak to that friend on a almost a daily basis about it after the friend he later murdered introduced it to him. He explained that the reason why he murdered him was because the friend made a derogatory remark about the main villain Queen Akasha and that Queen Akasha had ordered him to do it who he also believed promised him immortality if he killed his friend. He also drank his victim’s blood (because he wanted to be a vampire) and ate part of his head after he had murdered him. He later hanged himself in prison in 2004."
It must've been so painful for all involved to finish this scene, would've been like l loving her again.
Aaliyah was truly a goddess on earth
Agreed
this scene is sad. i didn t want that the Queen dead betrayed by those pathetic little vampires.
It annoys me so much that in Queen of The Damned Armand looks more like Lestat and Lestat looks more like Armand. The same way that in Interview with the Vampire, Armand looks more like Louis than Louis looks like himself...
It's like no one reads the books before filming -_-
I actually like the way Louis looks in Interview with the Vampire. But Armand, yeah he looked older in that film.
The reason why she turns stone like and comes apart like sand is from all the souls she took taking back from her what she took from them, ❤ love vampires
IN MEMORY OF AALIYAH 1979-2001
The thing that ruined this for me is the sudden disappearance of her long hair. The up-do part is still there, but the rest just goes away between frames.

They used Aaliyah in this movie. It's called Queen of the Damned and she was only in the movie for about 30 to 40 minutes
Hat Sheshupt her death halted filming and they had to use what they had. There were supposed to be more scenes involving Akashka’s background in Egypt and more scenes with her and Lestat. Aaliyah’s brother even dubbed some of Aaliyah’s lines because his voice was similar in pitch and tone to Aaliyah’s.

Remember in the original novels,Maharet ate her eyes, while Mekari ate her heart:truly, all things exist in balance.
I thought it was the tongue and the brain.
In the book, Maharet and Mekare belonged to a people that routinely practiced cannibalism as a funeral ritual. Queen Akasha was opposed to that traditional practice and was actively making every effort to stamp it out during her rule of Kemet.
This scene made me so sad when I first saw it. Aaliyah had just died and I was a big fan.
