Im so glad someone elses kitchen table looks like mine (though mine can have anything from a sewing project, modular synth modules getting built, bits of motorcycle getting refurbished or lots of maps and travel books). As an electronics engineer I can also agree with you feelings on time in the machine shop. I really never got on on with metal bashing back then, quite enjoy it now (though I feel that my metal workshop instructor at Catterick would still be flinging my bits into the scrap bin)

    Hi Keith,
Even as an intermediate machine operator, this looks extremely daunting! I'm not convinced I could get everything parallel without lot of fussing and heartburn.

    Dear Sir,
Quite interesting to see the cast parts before the machining. They really require work!
I have worked with 10 tonnes/hour boilers and i saw a boiler door being cast. But i haven't seen it machined to the final product.
    Cheers from Brazil!

Speculatively, were the inlet and exhaust valves created by drilling them out rather than through milling a slot? Thanks!

No they were just milled very badly . . . .

You found your time in the workshop drilling holes boring. 🤣
    Sorry, no girlfriend joke.
