    Edit 3/14/2023: it seems like the size chart on their website is out of date. Brittany Saint Leafy was sold a S glove as an XS, and wasn't told about it - their updated size chart is S - M/L - XL (yet the website still says 5 sizes). So unsure what the situation there is.
    Just worth noting that we're referring to these being "way cheaper" than the SPES Heavies, as the ones with the updated thumb design as the old ones are insufficient in our opinion. These are 15% cheaper as of the recording of this video.

    Thanks a lot for this in-depth series of clamshell glove reviews, exactly what I was looking for. Instant subscription!
    How do the HF gloves compare to the new SPES lobsters with full thumbs?

    • @HEMASimian
      @HEMASimian 2 года назад +3

      The new spes thumbs are better, but imo, still left a lot to be desired. These gloves are still more protective and more compact.

      I love the SPES Black lobster and they are incredible. The index finger helps a lot to strike in the pistol grip / longsword. They have good protection. I fence heavy since 5 years and no SPES Glove did disappoint me!

    I really appreciate your reviews. I'm in the market for some hand protection and this sold me on the HF Black Knight gloves. Thank you.

    I have the SPES black lobster and I definitely love them. Maybe I am romancing with the Thokk but with SPES I never had an harsh injury
    on our channel HEMA Club from Munich we did a comparison for sparring intensity gloves. Feel free to check it out :)

    Julian, I would like to hear your thoughts on the progauntlets after you've thoroughly tested them.

    • @HEMASimian
      @HEMASimian 2 года назад +3

      yeah for sure! I've been using them a fair bit, I just didn't want to make the 100th "first impressions! They seem good and have great mobility. Anyway, see you!" video on them so I'm spending more time and gathering more thoughts before I do anything.
      I think I'm pretty close to ready to have a first video done about my general thoughts about them after about a month of regular use now (and nothing's broken so far!)

      @@HEMASimian Nice! I ordered a pair of mediums myself and I'm glad to hear that they've seemed to step up the durability of the gloves.
      Other reviewers had concerns for the index and pinky fingers since the sides of the PG fingertips were squishy and they said it could give compression injuries when struck. What are your thoughts on this?

      @@linusbantilan7106 whoops sorry for the late reply :P
      I haven't been hit on the sides so much so I can't really say, next time I'm at practice I'll get someone to throw some some shots there. I know in general I've taken some pretty hard shots that were straight on the knuckles of the hand or an individual finger and I'm so impressed with the level of protection they offer in that regard. I feel like I've taken hits in the Kvetun Xiphosuras that hurt more...

    Ok, so I will probably be getting a pair of black knights. Have you done a review of pro gauntlets? Would you say they are worth the probably $400 or better counting shipping? I will be having a better job here soon, and if I can afford them, I will get them instead of the HF clamshells.

    Thanks for the in-depth review on the HF Black Knight Gauntlets! I'm considering between these & my coach's recommendation of SPES lobsters. I like that these have great finger protection with the plastic wrapping around so thoroughly. It's a year later, how have they held up?

    Thanks for the review. Did you go exactly with the sizing chart or did you go one size up/down?

      I'm not sure to be honest, they asked for some hand measurements, I gave it to them, and they sent me the gloves. It made me a bit nervous but they fit me great

    I forgot to ask about these, do they lock your grip into a hammer grip like the kvetuns?

      Nope, a handshake grip is real easy and natural.

      I was told to include the size in the comments section when you go to order them from your cart. There's a size chart if you click over on the images of the gloves with measurments as well. Hope this helps
