Plankton, getting tired and wanting to call it a night, decided to go upstairs and fall asleep, so he could attempt to steal the formula. A few hours later, plankton walks downstairs, where on the floor lay a gruesome sight, Karen was beheaded, and her body looked like it had been cannibalized on. Plankton knew this must’ve been because of the experiments he had conducted. Horrified that whatever did this got out, plankton calls Mr. Krabs to warn him or the possible threat. He then warns his close friends, SpongeBob, Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, etc. The Bikini bottom locals are in chaos, and the chum virus begins to spread, creating more chum monsters. Now SpongeBob and the gang need to find a cure and save the bikini bottomites, while suffering as few casualties as possible.
Fun fact: that scary image of Squidward at the end is actually technically canon since the animators referenced it, so you see the same image AND a hear a gunshot in a scene.

@@Batty23Official That's not the point I'm making. I'm saying that whatever script they wrote couldn't have possibly been that dark compared to the first movie, with, again, actual slavery, and SpongeBob literally dying.
It was a rainy day in bikini bottom, plankton and Karen were experimenting with strains of chum and fish DNA.
Plankton, getting tired and wanting to call it a night, decided to go upstairs and fall asleep, so he could attempt to steal the formula.
A few hours later, plankton walks downstairs, where on the floor lay a gruesome sight, Karen was beheaded, and her body looked like it had been cannibalized on.
Plankton knew this must’ve been because of the experiments he had conducted.
Horrified that whatever did this got out, plankton calls Mr. Krabs to warn him or the possible threat. He then warns his close friends, SpongeBob, Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, etc.
The Bikini bottom locals are in chaos, and the chum virus begins to spread, creating more chum monsters.
Now SpongeBob and the gang need to find a cure and save the bikini bottomites, while suffering as few casualties as possible.

Fun fact: that scary image of Squidward at the end is actually technically canon since the animators referenced it, so you see the same image AND a hear a gunshot in a scene.

Growing up a series or parts of it with time as the fans get older is literally the best move any franchise could ever do. You don't have to mature every single aspect, but having more serious undertones that can be grasped by adults but still enjoyable is what will appeal to all ages and make the most money
