Ahhhhhh, that time of the week where I get to go to my special place. For 15 minutes or so I am out of time, in another world. When I emerge I seem to be inspired and need to work out just what happened. It's the food for the weekend, the bookend on the working week. As ever I am complete and grateful.
The thing about DAW choice, is that if you spend a lot of time getting the best quality of sound coming into your interface, it doesn't really matter which recording software you use. So pick the one that makes sense for you and your work flow. Great video as always Eric! Thanks for doing what you do!
The Mini Mass has been a revelation cutting down the noise from pedals. I bought one after this video and am blown away but how it quiets everything down. MXR micro chorus, ehx eddy, supro harmonic tremolo have gone from paper weights to being useful.
I always wanted to know how you recorded your guitars, your tone is always so sweet, tasteful and unpretentious that I could listen to you for hours. Thanks for this my man, I had a really shitty week and watching your video still put a smile on my face.
I love my deco too! A tip for learning logic is to hunt out all of the quick keys you need, write them on a piece of paper and stick them to your wall for a few weeks.
That Deco is part of you by now. I've always found your sound amazingly balanced. Everything is subtle and tasteful. About the amp, without looking at the amp I would think it's a bias thing. But I haven't really researched that amp to see what its "mojo" is.
It’s probably all my low output single coils! Plus, sitting right next to it there’s no amount of attenuation to get it to the edge of breakup. We need a bigger boat.
@@EricHaugenGuitar I read somewhere that the volume needs to be pretty high for the nice breakup. Boosting the front is always an option. Saw that channel 1 has a 1 meg feedback resistor. That definitely mellows that channel out.
Hi Eric! Thank you very much for your kind reply in my last comment where I suggested that "a pay as you've watched the video' option would be really cool... I did not know that existed, but you told me there is like a "superthanks" button which you "can't see from your side of the backend/ frontend?"... However, I've just discovered that now and am happy to give something back!! If I knew something like this existed before.... well, there might have been a half or one to two more Eric vid's where I really learned a lot and wanted to say thank you.... (Like in all and each of them ;-) This time it worked! Have a nice weekend! Thanks!
This is great. I may be picking up a MiniMass now. As a follow-up, I’d be really interested in learning how you record vocals and then balance/mix it with your guitar.
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thanks for the reply! I was thinking the latter. I was listening to your EP again after in one of you recent videos you mentioned that you didn't think of yourself as a singer. I (and probably many other guitar players) feel the same way. However, your actual recordings come across super polished and you sing well. We'd really appreciate a peek behind the curtain on your process.
LOVE your vids ! So much great content, and instruction. Question, I debate the concept of amp simulator programming vs a real pedal board amp setup. What are your thoughts on this, as well as Pros and Cons ? In the context of home training, and growing in the learning process. Thank you !
I think these days it's all a question of feel! I LOVE tube amps for that, but I will completely acknowledge that nowadays you can get equivalently good sounds with modelers! I use amplitube 4 all day long for teaching and love it.
If I trust the sound man, I’ll actually have them put some plate reverb on in the PA! If not, any old reverb pedal will do they’re all pretty good by now
@@EricHaugenGuitar using the term “sound man” to describe a whole career field occupied by people of all genders is archaic and predictable. It’s a small thing for sure, but that also means it’s really easy to change. Try it out.
Hello Eric, this is perfect timing. I’m inspired by your lessons all the time and have been using your Truefire course. I have been setting up my old recording studio and gear as my software but I am not happy with amp software. I have to really look into a mini mass as my 5150 and classic 30 are just too loud to mic like you do, I don’t even have a mic😂. Thank you for your channel and courses and your SECRETS, we appreciate them. Eat 🍕
Yeah! I use amplitube for a lot of my non important backing gtrs and honestly I bet I could get away with using it on the main gtr. Buuuut it’s not that same!
Hello Eric, this gave me a lot to think about in upgrading my recording setup, thank you so much for the great sound advice as always! I have a question though I don’t know if you take request but there is this song I can’t seem to crack and I can’t find any live videos or covers anywhere. The song is Last Mile by Elvin Bishop, it sounds like slide to my ears that’s about all I know, if you don’t know it already I think it’s right up your alley.

I tried blending it with an SM57 like many people seem to do with ribbons, and I just don’t think the 57 adds anything helpful. Thank You Eric! I love how you do what you love and share it openly.
Super tasteful setup and sounds fantastic as usual! I loved GarageBand for the brief time I used it, but alas, when my Mac updated it broke my neuraldsp plugins, and I discovered these were never intended for GarageBand compatibility. Logic is just as user friendly luckily.
The Stryman and the Valhalla really " fatten " your sound. I'm definitely going to watch this video again. I'll have to look and see if you have a video on amps too. As always thanks Eric. Great vid.
I never noticed you used a Malekko delay. I have the Red mkii, did you happen to compare it against the Dark variant when choosing yours? As always, thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
I use adobe premiere elements to put everything together and edit. You can get “pretty good” audio by hooking up mics to the cameras but the on-camera preamps are notoriously noisy

If someone is taking lessons online, perhaps from a certain RUclips creator, what interface(s) would you recommend? What setups have you seen work well for this purpose?
When you shut the reverb off, I still heard delay, but a little too much delay imho. 👨🏻 Nice Strymon deco.. there’s a v2 now; I wonder if they were able to retain the spirit of the original in spite of added functionality? 🎸🥳
Question: reverb and dealys always after tracking? I am new to recording and i am confused if i should use the reverb amp and pedal delay or maybe i should do it after.

Anyone have recommendations for other gear that just takes away operational hum the way that the weber does? I don’t need an attenuator but the noise reduction would be amazing
Unfortunately, the attenuator won't work in that loop. Buuut I know those AC10s and like em! I'd recommend really cranking that gain knob and lowering the master volume - depending on your pickups, that might get you to that sweet spot!
Oh no, not you too with the BIG PODCASTER MIC ON A HUGE MIC ARM. It sounds no better than when you used a lav and it’s big, ugly and dominates the frame. Unlike Joe Rogan and Howard Stern you don’t need the extra visual prop , you’ve already got the guitar!

Naw just a coincidence!
Hi Eric, thank you for this video. Do you like ribbon mics for acoustic guitars as well?
Not as much! The best sound I’ve ever heard for recording my acoustics was my friend Thom’s tube condenser mic! Rich and clear!
Uncle Doug could help you do whatever you want with that amp. He has a youtube channel if you haven't heard of him before :)
