The Soviet Union invested a lot in athletes at a young age for political agendas. Ivan lost before the whole world, and he incurred heavy penalty from his country. He was left with nothing but his son after his wife and those who supported him abandoned him. Viktor was fighting for his father's love, because that was the only thing he had to lose despite Rocky saying Viktor had nothing to lose.
I don't think anyone expected the creed movies to be any good when they were first announced because they seemed to be another Hollywood cash grab off a popular franchise but I'm so glad Stalone and Michael B Jordan is still brining heart to these movies!
I like that we got the human side of drago in this movie , not just the complete villain like rocky 4 ( I love rocky 4 by the way) But it's nice , and I really liked Victor , it's the first time in a rocky movie that I didn't want the opponent to lose
The boxer he fought in the beginning (Danny Wheeler) who I mentioned in another comment was played by real life top pound for pound fighter and Olympic Gold medalist Andre Ward. Ward gave a spoiler hint before this movie came out telling fans they would see something they haven't seen before(Ward losing). Andre Ward retired undefeated after winning Championships against the best in multiple weight classes. In fact Ward hadn't officially lost since he was a 12 year old kid in the Amateur ranks.
Rocky & Drago seeing each other again after all those years was freaking awesome & Adonis got his confidence back to beat Viktor Drago ass & Rocky passing the torch to Adonis was great I can't wait for the third one.
There's a line I really like in this movie. During Rocky talking about how Drago broke things in him, he calls Victor dangerous. Adonis says "I'm dangerous!" I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but there's a moment in Rocky where Duke is watching Rocky pound the meat and he tells Apollo he should see it and and says "Looks like he means business." Apollo replies "Yeah, I mean business too" which is both of them not listening to their trainers and not taking their opponent seriously.
There's another scene between Duke and Apollo, I'm not sure if it's in 1 or 2 but, Duke, when referring to Rocky, says, "He's dangerous." Apollo yells back, "I'm dangerous." It was said during one of their fights, but I can't remember which one.

When Rocky said,"It's your time", that Sylvester Stallone saying goodbye to Rocky's story in the future movie. He'll be behind the camera for the next one.
Creed 2 does a really great job of exploring father/son dynamics. Re-using the Drago character from Rocky IV was perfect as it allowed them to explore his relationship with his son whilst tying it into Adonis' creed trying to step out from under the shadow of his own father. And of course, in the background you have Rocky feeling like he shouldn't be a part of his son's life as it moves on in case he holds him back. All of them get their resolution in the end. Can't wait to see where Creed 3 goes - breathing new life into the Rocky franchise whilst also taking things in a new direction can't be easy, but the first 2 Creed films have managed it so far.
This felt like a perfect end to the series so I'm excited and nervous to see what they're gonna do next with Creed 3, I think my ranking goes: Creed 2 Rocky Rocky Balboa Rocky 2 Rocky 4 Creed Rocky 3 Rocky 5 All are great tho :D
Glad you had zero idea about what to expect it just adds far more to the reveal. It was promised heavily from posters to the trailers we all knew who Creed was going up against but it’s awesome that you went into this blind. No idea what Creed 3 could be about but hey I wouldn’t mind Mr T returning as just a character not someone fighting against Creed exploring what happened to other Rocky characters while introducing new ones.
Yeah I really liked how they humanized Drago in this movie. He's not just a machine, not just a product of Soviet Russia. He's a man, pure and simple. They really did the Creed movies right, no doubt about that. The emotion, the heart, just all fantastic. The fight scenes are expertly choreographed, which I love. And of course, doing Rocky right, giving him his moments. Just perfection.
I love how hyped you get every time they play Rocky’s theme. I’m the same, man lol I really like how they characterized Drago in this. He’s still the antagonist technically but you can see that he learned from the past. Other people would turn away from his son for losing but he didn’t.
It all started with a joke after the success of the first film. "So what's next, is Adonis gonna fight the son of Ivan Drago?" Seriously. This was what people were saying at the time. So Stallone (one of the producers and writers) decided that the sequel would show us just that. It was a joke that became gold and it actually worked. Defining performances by all of the cast and Dolph Lundgren as Drago was such a turnover from ruthless to remorseful. The surprises and gut punches (literally and figuratively) of this sequel are incredible. I can't wait for Creed 3 as Michael B. Jordan's directorial debut.

Creed II is great. I love how it feels like a sequel to Rocky IV in a way. One thing that was a nice subtle touch that I real appreciated, when Rocky is trying to talk Donny out of fighting Viktor and says he's dangerous. When Donny responds with "I'm dangerous," that was an exact quote from Apollo during the end fight in Rocky II. The scene at the end with Rocky and Robert gets me every time. My series ranking: 1. Creed was the only movie Stallone didn't direct or write. Coogler had to convince Stallone to do Creed. At first he said no until he saw Fruitvale station. After it's success Stallone wrote part 2 & originally was gonna direct it but then they decided to get another young black director like Coogler. The guy they chose went to school with Coogler. When he read the script he made 3 critical changes to the script. 1. Bring back Drago's wife (Stallone's ex wife) 2. Stallone had Creed winning by a regular KO but director changed it to the throwing of the towel. 3. In the original script drago comes to the hospital where he runs into Rocky to brag & they actually trade blows (there is a behind the scenes of them filming it) however he rightfully took it out.

I absolutely loved the Viktor and Ivan Drago scenes and their acting. Drago was not a villain, he was just from a different place.
The real villain was Viktor's mother
I actually liked both of them a lot.
They were both manipulated to be treated like machines.
Ivan throwing in the towel always makes me cry. He doesn't want to see his son get hurt anymore and he doesn't care about his old life anymore.
I'm glad Ivan didn't abandon Viktor the way his mom did.
