the thing about 100 girlfriends, is that it is a very deliberate parody of the Harem genre. And it works, because it does everything that every other Harem doesn't.
Where a normal harem won't have "the kiss" until the final episode and the guy has chosen, this one has the kiss in episode 2. For every girl. A normal Harem will have an indecisive Dude and infighting among the girls, but here the girls are all equal. Normally the MC would be a wet blanket with a cardboard personality, but Rentaro's a character who cares about the girls, shows that he knows them, does things for them, go on dates, etc.
The truly hilarious part, is that in an effort to parody Harem anime, it genuinely went and became a *good* Harem anime all on its own.
I'm a big fan of 100 kanojo except when strange fetish's randomly rear their head. Its just an over the top series in general.
So more or less konosuba but harem

I'd suggest Dungeon Meshi for this season. Was an amazing manga.
Knowing your love for fantasy, I highly recommend you Dungeon Meshi. If the anime is just half the awesome it was in the manga, it's gonna be a top tier anime for this new season
For Undead Unluck, it gets way more interesting on later part. Because author struggle on early chapter, their skills improve with each chapters. But I get it if that is a turn down for people.
I think that spoiling the concept that makes it interesting after the first prophecy missions is worth it to continue, but I haven't went on with the manga yet.

As someone who watched the full 12 episodes of Boushoku no Beserk, I can happily confirm the show gets worse and dropping it is smart.

I'm terribly sorry but i'm going to have to take this opportunity to try to shill DEAD MOUNT DEATH PLAY one of the most EPIC shows/manga I've ever seen. Containing like 50 different EPIC characters with their own EPIC and CONVOLUTED storylines that weave into each other PRETTY WELL ACTUALLY. As a Durarara enjoyer this actually surpassed my expectations and is very enjoyable was honestly one of the only things i enjoyed last season lol. Also emissary in shadow was kinda funi. Great video tho (i say after only looking through the thumbnails but your content is always great so i have no doubts lol).

Funny I also watched those shows nearly in that same order! I also checked out MF Ghost, and some older stuff like Isekai Vending Machine and JoJo.
Only watched the 1st ep of it, but it looks like Solo Leveling is gonna scratch that Isekai itch for this season

It's interesting that you dropped the Shield Hero anime right around the same place I dropped the manga. It's wild to me how fast the plot ran out of steam.

I really enjoyed Dr.Stone this season. It was the best season of the series so far imo.
Frieren is a slow burn but it’s probably the best slow burn I’ve watched in recent memory. You know when you’re watching a shounen, it seems like it goes by in 5 min? Frieren is the complete opposite but I always felt I got my times worth every episode.
Apothecary is great too. It only took a couple of episodes to know that Apothecary and Frieren were going to be the top anime this winter.
100 girlfriends is the greatest “trash” ever. I think the self awareness helps a lot with that lol.

Yeah… the thing about Goblin Slayer, from my experience with the manga, is that it isn’t actually grimdark or edgy and doesn’t have anything to say about… the depicted crimes. It just really really likes using [demonitized] for cheap emotional investment and appears to revel in it. When I realized that, it took me from being a defender to absolutely hating it…

I tried watching "everything" once and that was exhausting, and I learned pretty quickly that there is always decent amount of mediocre anime, but I loved when I found a "diamond in the rough" like Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, Darker than Black, or the Aria trilogy.
I have seen well over 1000 different anime series and movies, and I think I am pretty good as a critic, because i have some depth and can talk about why I think something is over or underrated, but it primarily boils down to mainstream stuff and hype, none of which MAKES something worse, but it colors people's opinion in the moment, and I don't think I really know how good a show is until I re-watch it.
If you re-watch an anime and its just as good, or sometimes even better than it was the first time you watched it, it is certifiably a banger. Classics like Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop have aged like fine wine because of it, but even if I don't think a show is an artistic masterpiece, shows like Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood will have me looking forward to the moments I know are coming, even if I am not finding new things to discover in the series.
2023 was SUCH a good year for anime though, with To Your Eternity, Frieren, and Magus' bride rounding off the way over saturated fantasy genre (at least these three are really good), and while I am not sure exactly what year some of the "feel good" anime shows came out, Spy x Family, My romance story, and My Dress Up darling had me on an insulin drip.
I am a HUGE fan of Ruroni Kenshin:Tsuioku-hen and consider that a true anime masterpiece, and I think the original series is okay, but a bit dated. Its remake is perhaps little too faithful to the original and maintains some of the campy 90's elements that I don't think aged well, and I kind of wish they had adapted it a little less faithfully and did more of a spiritual remake that modernized the fights and dialogue a bit for the more adult audience I think the show would appeal to, since kids these days didn't grow up with ruroni, they are watching Ju Jutsu kaisen, and My Hero Academia.

Sadly i think Frieren is not a shown people are gonna remember fondly if it gets more seasons.
One vital flaw of the series in the manga is its stiffness. Every character is created with at most three expressions if they are lucky and it really sucks for the emotional moments.
I was gonna bring up 100 GFs in your other vid and lo and behold you watched it. I've been following the manga since always and it truly is a highlight with how stupid it gets. Though you say it's not a romcom, I argue that it absolutely is. Rentarou has plenty of romantic moments with his girls that one can enjoy just for the fluff. It's a romcom where every heroine wins and all. I say this as someone who enjoys shoujo from time to time haha
I haven't heard about the Apothecary show... I like some detective-ing, maybe I'll check it out.
EDIT: checked it out, binged it, cant wait for it to finish airing so I can binge the rest

Have to agree on the new seasons of Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer. Both had great first seasons, and everyone said that Shield Hero's second season covers its worst arcs so I'll kind of give it a pass, but man the new seasons just weren't all that good. The animation for both shows wasn't good either. Not even just comparing them to the amazingly animated shows this past season like Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, and Jujutsu Kaisen (even with it not being done, it still looked pretty good), they just weren't very well animated. I wasn't expecting too much from Shield Hero given how S2 looked, but Goblin Slayer S2 looked surprisingly mid often
I feel the webnovel of shield hero was better than the reworked version or manga it felt like it just became another cliche isekai

I think last season was only saved to be considered garbage because Frieren exists and I watched it. I did watch my 8 to 10 titles I generally do, then theres Frieren with 9, then Arknights with a 8. Then everyone else is 7 and above, wich is kinda letdown, because even who got 7 (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou.) I feel like it only got there because everyone else was worse. Didnt help that Helck was like the non-virgin girl anime: I watched every week just in hope it got better, but it didnt.
At least in December out of nowhere the Ceobe anime premiered and was better than basically everything not named Frieren.

@@gio6613 Yep, OST of shield hero is a banger, not on the MiA level, but it's definitely worth hearing even if you don't want to watch it, which btw. is the right decision, season 1 is pretty good if you turn blind eye on some things, but after that it was so bad I didn't even give S3 a chance.
