The Adventures of Monkey Man: Honda Monkey 125 economical driving

  • Thanks to Russian attack to Ukraine, it launched economical disaster in Europe. In Finland gasoline cost more than 2,50 € (2,50 USD) per liter.
    Before that, the big issue was climate change and environmentally friendly solutions for driving. Electric car or traditional combustion engine (petrol / diesel)?
    But how economical is Honda Monkey 125 in daily use? Can Monkey really solve climate change and the risk of personal bankruptcy???

    Done a range test with my 2022 Monkey too.
    Filled the tank to the absolute max. capacity of 5,7L.
    Drove it until it run out of gas at sensationel 368,8Km.

    Talking imperial gallons here, my usual mpg is 131 miles per gallon (Flat out on country roads) and from a really full tank(like over the metal bit) to “run out of fuel” was 164 miles.
    The fuel low light comes on way too early, so I zero on filling up and drive till the 150 mile mark, then start looking for fuel. From the posts on here with better economy, I would say that 131 mpg and 165 miles per tank are worst case scenario✅✅✅✅✅

    The best I have had is 178 mpg (61.9 km/ltr) and the worst is 158 mpg (54.9 km/ltr) at similar speeds. My Monkey has the 5 speed gearbox. Nice video, nice country.

      I did one mileage test on my Monkey a couple years ago. I got 154 MPG (I weigh about 240 pounds). This one is a 2020 with a 4-speed. It was also before I swapped the front sprocket for one with one less tooth. I haven’t checked it since. Conversely, my Harley Road Glide Limited (weighs close to 1000 pounds with the gear I typically carry in it) gets about 50-ish MPG.

Hyvä tietää nyt tämän videon ansiosta että kuinka pitkälle Monkeyn tankillisella pääsee, eli ei kiirettä vielä tankkaan vaikka jäljellä olis enää se yksi tolppa. Did you go full speed on main roads, or did you go with reduced speed at all time to save fuel? Also what is real top speed on straight roads on the Monkey? Nice vid!

    • @atventurist
      @atventurist  Год назад +6

      Biggest gear in this model is 4. I usually drive about 65-80 km/h and that was the speed in this video. Top speed on straight road has been 104 km/h. It´s easy to get 90-95 km/h, but not so nice to ride. Speedometer error is about 10%, so 65-80 is actually 60-73 and 90-100 is about 81-90.

    Moi! Video menee niin nopeasti, että vaikea pysyä mukana missä päin Klaukkalaa ja Stadia ajelet. Mutta ihan kiva seurata, kun olen Klaukkalassa paljon pyörinyt lomillani täältä Australiasta. Mulla on keltainen 2022 Monkey. Se vie noin pari litraa satasella kaupunkiajossa. Olet näköjään Pasilassa duunissa. Tosi kiva video meikäläiselle, kun koettaa arvuutella, että missä mennään. Trying to decide between a Monkey or a Grom. The Monkey seat is incredible and the looks come directly from my youth but I really like the Grom also. So hard to decide really the only changes I was going to make were to the exhaust but if I buy a Grom I have to change the seat too. Hard choice

      I know your problem! It´s hard to decide between different Honda models. This year we should have in Finland Honda ST125 DAX, it´s really interesting! But I´m also interested in Honda Super Cub 125 and I know that somewhere is Trail 125. Maybe I´ll have to get them all!🤣

    • @TRJx86
      @TRJx86 Год назад

      The Grom from what ive been told handles better than the monkey, but if youre like me and you have another performance bike and just want to have something fun thats economical and comfy get the Monkey, I have ridden 5+ hours on the monkey in a day and experienced no aches. Downsides of the monkey is that you lose on the 'pillion seat' that you get on the grom in that you need to buy a rack to store anything behind you and that the original VEE RUBBER VRM 133 tires are awful in the rain you need to be incredibly careful on them. I changed these for Michelin City Grip 2 tires which help traction in the wet , tire choice is fairly limited due to the weird aspect ratio of the rear tire.
      The monkey comes equipped to do light offroading. (though on gravel roads where the gravel chip is large it feels squirmy due to the smaller wheels and low weight. My Ducati Monster 796 felt more confident on it :D but dusty/ grassy bits are fun.
      The monkey is put together incredibly well , metal tank etc. really makes it seem like the premium model.
      In the end its personal preference ,7300 miles on mine with no issues

    • @Carby4SZK
      @Carby4SZK Год назад

      The grom has slightly smallar diameter tyres. The rims are the same 12 inches, but tyres are 130/80/12 on the monkey and 130/70/12 on the grom. The grom has more tyre choices than the monkey. You can also mount grom tyres on the monkey, but it looks better with those larger diameter tyres. Also, if you weigh over 85 kg it's better to upgrade the shocks on both models. They bottom out pretty quickly.

  • @Carby4SZK
    @Carby4SZK Год назад

    • @atventurist

      It's typical, that it goes to reserve after 220-230 km. I don't remember how it is described in the manual, but I think my record in reserve is about 85 km. I presume my record is something about 313 km. When it was totally empty, I had a 0,8-liter petrol bottle with me. I would say you can drive at least 50 km when it goes to the reserve.
