Lexus doesn't sell well in Japan because most people here don't associate it with premium or luxury. Don't get me wrong, Japanese people think Lexus make good cars, however they don't seem to think it's any better than Toyota. Most Japanese people still regard German cars to be superior in every single way, in terms of engineering, looks, interior quality, etc.

It is a fact Lexus/Toyota are #1 in reliability and resale value while it is also a fact that German cars are the least reliable and most rapidly depreciating cars in the world. Go look what a 4,5,6 year old German car sells for compared to A Lexus/Toyota of the same age. The depreciation and resale values of German cars are hilarious. Why? Because they are garbage and *MOST* people know this.
People in Asia care about the prestige/class heavily over reliability/depreciation. In the US we simply do not ignore reliability/depreciation as much as people from Asia. Different culture when it comes to vehicle shopping.
