First, very good summary. I would have thrown in somewhere the goofy stuff he did with practices, the music, “parties,” etc. That being said, I’m ready to turn the page on Goof Collins. Thankfully he’s behind us. I suspect most everyone agrees, this is the most anticipatory off-season for us since the summer of 2018. While I’d love to be the TCU of this year, I’m excited because realistically we have a shot at a bowl and I feel like aside from UGAg and probably Clemson, we should have at least a fighting chance in every game. With Goof, I had gotten to where I just didn’t care about football season coming since there was no hope. And as someone who once went to 112 straight games home and away, that says a lot that I had lapsed into apathy the last couple of years.

Beautifully said my man. I wanted to like Geoff, but that era of Tech football from August 28, 2019 to September 24, 2022 took significant years off my life. I blamed everything for the losing, “academic standards handicap recruiting”, “we’re transitioning out of the triple option”, “we can’t compete with top 5 teams and have a tough schedule” at the end of the day 10-28 spoke for itself. It was Collins and his cronies who destroyed our program. I feel for Brent Key as he’s basically the Guinea pig of yet another rebuilding experiment but as I write this we’re 5-4 with two wins this season over ranked opponents. In my years having season tickets since 2018, this is the most excited I’ve been as a Jackets fan and the only time I’ve been optimistic since winning the TaxSlayer Bowl in 2016. It’s been a long, long time. Thank you for this video and Go Jackets. Would love to be on the show anytime, reach out and let me know.

Sad to see that Collins wasn’t able to succeed at GT but I am the athletics photographer at Temple University and he did well here. Two winning seasons and a Bowl win. He got the job at GT because he was one of the best Defensive coordinators in the country. I know for certain that he has had some major offers but is just being selective about his next moves.

I knew we were in for a downward spiral at the first moneydown. Winners don’t do that gimmicky crap. It was ominous and I think alienated alumni that actually attended the games. It eventually became white noise. I still don’t see the merit. Even kids know that a true leader doesn’t cow to the prevailing wisdom of the day, ie money worship.

WT: "I had to work hard to narrow this list down to just 5 things."
WT moments later: "Every press conference he ever gave. . . Every game he ever coached against Clemson. . . Every penalty and special teams blunder." 😂😂
Also, I have to defend Collins on one thing. All the off the field stuff you mentioned (press conferences, WaHo, Money Down, etc.) are things that are naturally going to become infuriating when we're losing. If Collins was going 9-3 instead of 3-9, most of us would find all of that stuff at worst corny but tolerable, and some fans would even consider it endearing.

I would add "yall so unprepared" comment from the Georgia player during the 2021 game. Key got the team prepared to play that week's opponent when he took over. No one knows what the previous coach was preparing the team for in practices leading up to a game. I also will submit that same coach's reaction with about 12 and half minutes to go in the 2019 game against VPI, when the Jackets were already down 45-0 to a team they had beaten three years in a row and said coach asked for some review and went back to the sideline after the refs told him to get back with his tongue wagging out like MJ or like there was something funny. Down 45-0. At home. To Virginia Tech. That instance right there should have been a clarion call of a warning on what was about to transpire.

Not getting the ball to Jahmyr Gibbs inside the five yard line when trailing Clemson 14-6 in the last two minutes of the game.
Having Jahmyr Gibbs fair catch the free kick after the safety at the end of the 2021 game trailing 14-8. Jordan yates is a good kid, but he can’t throw it to the end zone on the final play against the Clemson d line. I’d take my chances with Gibbs legs over yate’s arm.
