The cut edges are a bit rough as you pointed out. Not bad though. Could that be resolved by tightly clamping the book and them sanding it wilh fine fine paper?

Some binders take fine sand paper on a block and smooth the cut sheets. I would try it on dry paper first and avoid dampening. I have never applied moisture to the edge of the book. "Apply moisture at your own risk" as they say. Ha ha Thanks for watching.

@@jaescala Thanks. I think I will try your method. I have just started tinkering and want to see how it goes before investing too much cash. By the way, I have watched many of your videos and enjoy them.

I bought this at Talas. It is called a leather pairing knife.

I've seen it listed as an "English pairing knife". Another option is a Kiridashi which is functionally identical but might be easier to source.

What are those clasps with the red tips holding the text block in place called?

Hello. People call them by different names. Woodworking clamps, furniture clamps and the one I use “pipe clamps”. Often the pipe clamps are sold in two parts. The red clamp area and then two lengths of pipe are bought. Next the clamp is assembled. I used 3/4” pipe. However, you can buy fully assembled clamps to use. Most wood working clamps have a flat metal piece instead of using pipe. Either way you can secure the book and wood for trimming. Buy clamps to the length you need. Some have a metal shaft as long as 4 feet! Not need for that in your binding area. They can be purchased at most hardware stores or large home supply stores. These are Bessel from Home Depot. Just remember if you buy these, you need to buy pipes. A very good book binding channel on RUclips is DAS Bookbinding. He has a video titled Book Edge Trimming without.. this video shows several options for trimming the edge of a book. Hope this is helpful. Enjoy binding. -Jim
