- Despite growing up on Vancouver Island I have never explored this northern area and it has been amazing!!!! This video is the first of several from the amazing adventures up here that I am currently enjoying. That bear was HUGE!!!!! I have a 5 min clip that I keep rewatching because it was such an amazing experience to watch it from the trees as if I was a stealthy wild animal myself.
My heart skipped a beat when it turned and faced you. Lol

That was the biggest and healthiest black bear! So cool to be able to watch it. Thought for sure it smelled you for a minute there.

Oh, Frank. 😅😅 Don't ever change! Amanda, what a great video. When you came out of the trees onto that first cove/beach, I felt instant serenity. So peaceful. But when you were on the second beach with the deafening roar of the waves, it was exhilarating. We used to go annually in the fall for our vacation on the pacific rim area (though we did go to Port Hardy once). I miss it so much, but love seeing it through your eyes.
I would love to spend more time in the Pacific Rim area, but hard to do for cheap/free these days
@@tidelinetoalpine yes, I hear you on that. The less traveled paths (logging roads) lead to infinitely more interesting and rewarding destinations.
Wolves! And cougars and bears! Oh my!!! But loggers and polluters.... big sigh.

The roar of the ocean and force of the waves made my heart beat a little faster. Would go to the beach in North Carolina just before a storm to see and hear. Loved it.
Caught my breath when I saw the bear. At first I thought it was just an added clip but then decided it was real. Girl, you are something.
Frank is something else. He was so determined to get that buoy. He is so laid back but has such a personality!

Frank's desire to chew up that massive buoy is just hilarious. That tongue action cracked me up! Beautiful footage of wild beaches and that beautiful bear! So cool, but it takes courage to get that far out into the wild. I'm so glad you guys can stay cozy with your nice diesel heater!

You are in one of my favourite places in the world! I'm a Victoria girl born and bred, but I absolutely love that part of the Island! I used to do that part of the West Coast Trail frequently, but now that I'm disabled the only way for me to experience it again is to watch people like you, so thank you!
I follow one Creator who puts her GPS coordinates in her videos, (after she's left of course), and I was wondering if that was something you might consider doing too? You have such great knowledge of the back country throughout the Province that I thought it might be cool.

I follow quite a few nomads, but it seems like most of them, for some reason, love the desert. I don't understand it with very little scenery and things to do. That's why I enjoy watching your videos. You show some of the most beautiful places and share some exciting adventures that you've and Frank have been on. Easy to camp in the desert and sit on dry land, but you take it one step further. You show us how to handle all types of weather conditions and road conditions and give us information on how to be safe while traveling and camping.
The wildness and remoteness of those beaches was so wonderful. I hope they stay that way. The bear looked very healthy after winter, certainly we’ll fed. I worry about the bears in the Rockies because we had such an early berry crop last year. They are beginning to show up again after hibernating. We just got an inReach after an emergency last year that luckily we had cell coverage for. Often we don’t, like yourself, so I think it is a good thing to have. Hopefully neither of us have to use it. Frank and the huge buoy was hilarious - size matters 😂

That was a VERY healthy bear. That’s also the biggest buoy I’ve ever seen wash up. Frank really worked the heck out of it. We get a lot of buoys and other garbage wash up on that side of the island. Thte power of those waves! I loved finding glass buoys. Cheers from Vancouver eh!
I found a glass buoy once and regret not taking it home. I do have a little plastic one in my van from Haida Gwaii. I guess I was strangely attached to it 😆
Frank the Bouy Man! 🤣🤣 This has been my favorite video of all of yours I've seen so far! I LOVE being on the ocean with weather like this! The wind roaring, the waves, ocean spray, smell of sea salt. Where to start. That Bear was awesome!! So big, beautiful and dangerous. I’m so glad you got the footage. Frank is hilarious. His expressions. He just is so easy to understand. He’s happy is very clear his frustration is very clear. He’s a nut. 😆 I love watching him with a stick. That bouy was funny it’s bigger than him. Thanks for sharing. Watching Frank at the end reminded me of a large plastic ball I bought for my first Lab. It was bigger than a basketball. The plastic was about 1/4 in. thick. They advertised that even a lion couldn't destroy it. But she would just go nuts over it. Pushing it around the yard trying to bite into it. Barking and whining. I'd let her play with it for about an hour and then I would hide it.
Frank was so determined to get that buoy. That was some adorable footage. Such a gorgeous area. That bear footage was awesome. How lucky you where to witness it live.

Very cool! Bears eyesight is not very good but it's nose is 10 times a bloodhound. It stoped to smell you because you were upwind.
So the coast sounds delightful, and seeing it thru your new eyes will be great.

Running into a bear while hiking is my biggest fear and nightmare lol. Which is something that 90% of the time stops me from continuing or finishing a hike. I wish I wasn't so scared to hike alone. You are brave. I don't know what I would do if I saw a bear like that.

Where to start with that video? That bear encounter was AMAZING - and how well-fed it looked! It looked like it caught wind of you for a moment but couldn't figure out where you were, so decided it wasn't a problem and went back to digging in the pebbles. Those beaches were AMAZING! They make me want to go camp there now, whatever the weather, just to be there and watch the waves. That cedar looked like a culturally modified tree - I wonder if it's protected. Was it in a park? I've driven that road out of Port Hardy once and had to react *very* quickly to a logging truck coming towards us. Not a fun experience and I'm glad we managed to stay out of the ditch. And lastly, Frank and that buoy - so much slobber! 😂 He was really into it though - so fun to watch! Thank you 🙏

Wow, that bear WAS huge. I am amazed that you were so calm throughout especially when it seemed like he was looking at you. I love the nature but I have never encountered anything other than racoons or fox.
