I love watching almost the same thing a hundred thousand times and I like that I can trust you to not get misogynistic/ condescending when criticizing these types of books. But I’m also excited to see that same approach for other things :)
I really appreciate how you set boundaries at the beginning of the video. There is so much back-scratching in the mainstream book community, it's nice to find someone willing to give their true opinion about a book written by someone they know and like!
This review made me curious what you'd have to say about Cemetary Boys, mainly because of the lore for the magic system and the fact that you enjoyed the MCs interaction family and friends. Cemetary Boys did a good job imo of occupying the world with reasonably well fleshed out secondary characters and 3rd MC is the primary MC's cousin. It is YA tho
i read it recently and my thoughts were: the vampires were very well done. recently, ESPECIALLY in young adult, vampires haven't really felt like... vampires? like it feels like you could swap them out for just normal humans with powers and very little would change. and as someone who loves vampire fiction and picks up these books because i was promised vampires it's very disappointing. but angela montoya did vampires VERY well in "a cruel thirst". obviously it's a little toned down because it's ya, but this is what i'm looking for with vampires. they're scary, they're dangerous, and they're inhuman. it's very compelling. ...however, aside from the vampire lore, "a cruel thirst" was, to me, a very standard, color-by-numbers young adult fantasy romance. montoya's prose is strong, as you mentioned she's very good at descriptive prose especially, but the actual plot, the characters, the dialogue, not just the tropes themselves but the way they were implemented... it all felt very derivative. i've read this book a dozen times before. and i'll probably read it again a dozen times in the future. also i personally thought the insta love did NOT work. insta love is tolerable sometimes, and i've definitely read worse, but when you sell this book as a vampire x vampire hunter romance, any amount of insta love is too much for me. carolina has spent literally her entire life believing that vampires are nothing more than murderous demons who are always no matter what seeking to hurt you. people that she knows and cares for have been turned and she hasn't let that affect her worldview. her greatest desire is being a vampire hunter. it makes no sense that she would be as cool with lalo as she is as quickly as she is.
I've been burned out on vampires for so long because they use the same tropes and formula. This sounds different and I'm actually interested in trying it out~
D, I appreciate the book content. But where is my part 2 of the throuple show I was promised? Do I need to talk to your wife? LooooooooL! No, but thank you for the content always.
It's such a fun book and yet I don't see many reviewers talk about it at all. I want more funny books and not just as you said edgy and spicy and humorless.
I feel like I typically hold my friends to a higher standard than I do strangers, (listen, if we're going to hang out you need to be at least as cool as me, I'm sorry, I do make the rules and I will be enforcing them) so I'm extra curious to hear your thoughts on this!
Thank you for asking and for being interested! I don’t have a second channel at the moment. I’m struggling to keep this channel going consistently 😅. I do have a few videos about manga I’ve read on this channel. I’m brainstorming some commentary/video essays about anime for the future.
I love any episode of "D is talking about something that I may or may not actually know anything about"

Thank you for trusting me. That means a lot and I take that really serious.

just in time for me listen to this while working 🎉
Hope the work is going alright ☮️💟
“liberty, you’re about as edgy as a butter knife” 😂
I didn't know I needed a Canadian vampire story, but here we are.
Boy I hope a Canadian writer sees your comment

I haven’t read it but maybe I’ll check it out
You could also try Certain Dark Things. It has different types of vampires, combining different vampire lore

Super fair.
Yayyy!!! D is talking about something!
Gasp I just picked this up from my local library
In fairness, a lot of alleged professional comedians have built entire lucrative careers out of only one joke, so that’s all you really need!
Sure. Those aren’t comedians I want to be like.
@dfretter you don’t want to be a complete hack?? Godspeed 🙏
finally no shadow boo!!!
I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding
I’m sorry please don’t unsubscribe
aw man if you wrote a vampre novel I would read it

I get that burnout for sure

I hold my friends to higher standards as people but I sometimes cut them slack for art they create
Do you have a second channel where you do Anime/manga content! Cuz I’d love to go and follow you on that account too.

So...... what's the word count we're at with this vamp novel you're totally working on??? 👀👀👀
I am quite sure I don’t have the slightest idea of what you are talking about good human.
"A cruel thirst" more like cruel of you to make me watch this booktube trash
Helluva boss video when?
