A lady that I know just came from Columbia She smiled because I did not understand Then she held out some marijuana, ha ha She said it was the best in all the land And I said No, no, no, no, I don't smoke it no more I'm tired of waking up on the floor No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze Then it makes it hard to find the door A woman that I know just came from Majorca, Spain She smiled because I did not understand Then she held out a ten pound bag of cocaine She said it was the finest in all the land And I said "No, no, no, no, I don't (sniff) it no more I'm tired of waking up on the floor No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze And then it makes it hard to find the door" A man I know just came from Nashville, Tennessee He smiled because I did not understand Then he held out some moonshine whiskey, oh ho He said it was the best in all the land And I said No, no, no, no, I don't drink it no more I'm tired of waking up on the floor No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze And then it makes it hard to find the door
Hello from Vienna in Austria!! Very underrated Singer & Songwriter (for example Never Been To Spain & Joy To The World for Three Dog Night). Love also his song Rusty Old Halo i think from 1979. Our Soccer hero from the past, Hans Krankl (Kottan's Kapelle) did an austrian Version in the 80's and had a big national Chart success!! Best Wishes Christian!!!
Well well it finally happened to me. After years of partaking in all of the above. I gradually stopped every thing. But I love hearing the song. Especially with Cheech &Chong in it
Hoyt Axton struggled against drug addiction along his life. And many good songs came from composer's sufferings. And this song has an ironic bittersweet tone, being in the same time upbeat with deeper tones. And I like this original and Ringo's version, too. Both are great!
+rodri cecilio I'm Brazilian and I knew Raul's version first. And knowing it made me want to know the original song and its most known version (I don't remember exactly, but probably I knew Ringo's version before and so Hoyt's original). I thought Raul Seixas released his version around 1987, 88. But he adapted the lyrics to suit Brazilian drugs: Colombian marijuana, Bolivian cocaine and Argentine ethyl chloride in spray.

Hoyt co-wrote this song for Ringo Starr, whose version is better, in my opinion. Just the sniffing sound makes a huge difference. That is not to say this is not good, it's just not my favourite.

Ringo's version was actually released first (by about 4 months)
Yeah but Hoyt got Cheech and Chong on his version.
Which is the original this or Ringo's?
Raul Seixas conheceu essa pela versão do Ringo Star.
12-4-2022.
Hoyt Axton, the points on a Scrabble board should be huge! I must try to find where the most points are!
Ringo start had a hit with it in 1975.
