My family of Irish descent has a tradition of naming their babies after members of the family, usually the grandparents as a way of "honoring" them. There are people with my last and first name everywhere. I was shamed by the family by breaking tradition and naming the babies what we wanted, despite family pressure.
The fact that the process for vetting these applications is some county clerk noticing irregularities based on her subjective observations in rediculous. How many fraudulent registrations were approved in other districts by less dilligent officials, or by more sophisticated forgers? You can't conduct any other important business in this country and expect it to be subjected to such casual review. Imagine if you could get approved for a credit card simply by signing a piece of paper. Fraud would be rampant and the credit card companies would go broke! But that is how we treat our most sacred institution (voting.)
