Wishing I still lived in Uk. I have a Metal Detector here in Oz. But Sadly Medieval coins are rather thin on the Ground..!
Although I did find a Very small nugget of Gold in the Adelaide hills. But mainly my Haul is normally Bottle tops, Ring Pulls and Shotgun Pellets.
If I set it for Nonferrous, I basiclly go for a Walk waving a Stick about..!!
    But Great Collection mate.
I have a Small collection that I have bought. And your collection just gets my Knickers in a Twist..!!
I left Uk in 1980. But Did find coins in my unmade road in Benfleet essex. And they were everywhere.
My Best find, A Half penny token issued by William Pitt
Stating 'No Stamp Tax' and 'America' to the Reverse. I didn't identify it until 2010 and Sold it to an American for $700 plus. Thx Ebay..!
Love Coins, since I dug up a Roman 'As' whilst planting Runner beans wiv my Dad.
But from then on I was Hooked. Great Video and Collection mate..! Waffle on Mate..!
    Cheers kim in Oz. 😎

DUDE!!! As an English Hammered Silver enthusiast this video makes me SO jealous. I want to move over the pond now, buy a good metal detector and get to work looking for those. Love, Love, LOVE the video! Great stuff there...but you left out the really neat Scottish coins in the lower left hand corner. Why oh WHY? Totally dig me some Scottish pennies with their stars on the reverse.
Thank you so much and maybe think about making a short video on Scottish and Irish hammered silvers.
    Cheers from California...Jeffrey

I am an Ex Pommie ( Half of me still is, being a Dual National.)
And I knew the Coins could be Cut for Change but I was unaware of the 'Half Cut.!' Term refers to the Coin and Getting Hammered..! ( Opps forgive the Corny Jest, I couldn't resist.)
    Great info. Thx. 😎

    Great Video, Great Finds.
Sadly in Oz the Hammered coins are thin on the Ground down here. ( for some Reason. 😂😂)
My Oldest Coin has Been 1836 a Silver Groat of William.
Which was a Nice find in the mouth of my Local River.
I was Over the Moon as you may imagine. But my Standard find is The $1 and $2.
Amazingly the Silver Groat coin was in Better Condition than much of the Modern Coin.
The Silver coped well with with the Salt unlike the Modern Change.
What a Great collection, well done and Thx for Sharing..!
    Loving that Noble..!
    Have Subscribed and a 👍
    Cheers in Downunder land.
    Kim.😎

Darn! That's a lot of money from England just found metal detecting!!! As a younger collector, I've still managed to buy some early English coins, but I would not be able to believe even holding a gold noble! I sadly live in America where the chance of finding any coin from England is about as high as the chance of finding a penguin in Brazil. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to go on a trip over to England, once they're letting tourists in again, and buy a good metal detector in search of anything that's English coinage!

Fantastic an engrossing educational video! I dont detect as much now but its the hammies I most enjoy finding. I don't know enough about identifying them so I found your explanation of reading the legends particularly informative. Like you I love the medieval groats but only ever found four! In the last year I found a gold angel but its rolled up almost into a tube, so not sure if its Henry 7th or 8th. Do you think this was done deliberately? Maybe as some kind of votive offering?. Hope you plan to do more of these, absolutely fascinating!
    Cheers
    Andy

I often ponder on this subject, the fact that people drunk beer over water because it was safer than the water along with people not having glasses (alot of people will of had bad eye sight) and allso the world was alot darker in them days with there only being candles as a source of light you can easily see why so many hammered coins come up, allthough i havnt had 1 in a couple week😂😂

Hi, I found this information so interesting but I have a question.....Where did the silver come from during Henry III's reign to strike so many coins ?, I'm researching Henry III coins for myself and my collection, if so many coins were minted that would have taken a huge amount of silver. Thank you.
