- HP's newly redesigned Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter--a bargain at $149.99--performed better than its predecessor in virtually every aspect of testing and then some. It adds a color display and ePrint mobile printing, and is also quieter and sturdier. There are also new network management capabilities that make it the first Officejet Pro printer (and quite possibly the only thermal ink-jet printer) truly suitable for use in any home, small office, company or enterprise.
As seen in the video, unpacking and setup of the Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter was easy. The new inking system is a snap to maintain and prints showed no adverse effects when subjected to a hi-lighter pen and distilled water in the tests. Since the new ink dries faster there is also a marked improvement in duplex printing productivity over its predecessor.
HP has told us that many government agencies will not purchase anything with a scanner or use WiFi networking for security purposes. That is the reasoning behind the Officejet 8000 Enterpise printer. With the Officejet 8100 ePrinter, WiFi and ePrint mobile printing can be disabled to address these concerns. On the other hand, these features make it more attractive to a wider range of users than the Officejet 8000 Enterprise.
Much better than an old Epson. It can print as long as any ink is left and has available high-capacity cartridges. If you get the HP, go into the printer folder (XP) or devices and printers and set grayscale/black-ink only as your default, this will save you considerable moola.
I sold the test unit a while back and just removed the reply that you questioned. Sorry about that and thanks for pointing that out to me.
What is driving distance for you?
would you happen to know how to print card stock using this printer, I loaded the card stock in to the paper tray and it will not feed, I changed my paper settings to thick paper, I wonder if I am missing a step or something?
AIsabelJ The software settings have no effect on the printer's ability to feed the stock, it adjusts the amount of ink deposited, print speed and/or drying time for the media type that is selected. That said, either the card is too thick to feed through the printer or your feed rollers need cleaning. HP support has online documents that show you how to do this. Search for "clean feed rollers officejet pro 8100 eprinter" and the how-to from HP should show up at or near the top of the list. We wish you good luck with this.
am just setting up now-when I push in the ink cartridges they don't stay in (don't 'click') just bounce back at me. now what? :-( the manual is useless in this smatter :-(
is it a fax too?
How is this on ink use? I just destroyed my Epson, after it not being able to print out my tax forms with one low ink cartridge. With that one, all cartridges have to be full in order to print. There are a lot of negative reviews about it now...not so many when I bought it. This is on sale for $99 at Staples this week...but after the Epson/ink debacle, I am doing more research.
Thanx.
it has a scanner??
No, it is print only.
I just bought this from HP for $95. I can't get it to print from anything but an IPhone. It won't print from my laptop or my other smart phone. I can't figure out how to get an email address for the printer! I am getting frustrated with this thing!
Did you install the software? Is it connected to a network? If it is on a network, print out a status sheet and it will give you the IP address. Enter the IP address into your web browser and you can access the system configuration and settings embedded web server. The printer's email address will be there. If it is not on a network (hooked up via USB) and the software is installed, you can view everything by clicking on the HP Officejet 8100 icon in the start/HP menu.
I am so frustrated with this printer. I can't figure anything out!
Sonia Guzman The easiest thing to do is run the CD-ROM from your PC and hook up a USB cable to the printer when prompted. Then it's all down hill from there.
