  • It's my big RUclips comeback! I wanted to start with an honest discussion about what's been going on in my life, and how I've been coping with becoming a mum of two, increasing growth and visibility on RUclips, all the while dealing with my own autism/ADHD.

Welcome back, Sam! 🙂 Pace yourself in line with your boundaries and self care needs. This has to be priority for you and all neurodivergent people to avoid meltdowns / shutdowns / burnout. No one can be all things to all people - it’s not physically possible or healthy. It was so lovely to see you here again. Take care💜

Hi Sam, I hope you read this comment!! I wanted to let you know that when we discovered your channel, a few years ago, we were searching for answers for the difficulties we were having. My daughter had started avoiding school, and had just been diagnosed with ASD. So it was a hard time, and heartbreaking to watch her struggling so much with so many aspects of her life. Your videos really helped us to contextualise what was going on. Ellie watched all of your video and it helped her to stop feeling like a complete social failure, and see herself as a valid human being with a few social challenges - that do not define her as a person. There are some professions where you only get feedback when something goes wrong, or if they can vent their inner demons upon you. Teaching can be like that. But you rarely get positive feedback, because everybody has these really high expectations of you, and therefore if you achieve that high benchmark, people see this as unremarkable. But your work is remarkable and I hope I’ve been able to communicate just how much you’ve helped us and that the positive impact will actually last for many years. 😊

I can barely handle being perceived, which has kept me off social media apps (other than RUclips) for years now. Being on the recieving end of comments as a creator has always seemed like something that is so much to manage, even the positive intended ones. Love to see you back and wish you all the best from Oregon.

    1) You look lovely
    2) Parenting with ADHD and/or ASD is a huge adjustment, especially when your children are neurodivergent as well
    3) You are doing your part just by bringing us content and awareness, and you don't owe us anything
4)Sometimes you (as in all of us) need to let something slide and that's okay
5)You're doing a great job, keep prioritizing your personal life and mental health, and do what you can for RUclips when you can!

I found your videos very recently and find them the most useful of all the content out there. I’m an undiagnosed autistic woman in my 60’s and did not set limits as a young mother of 2 autistic kids with a non- helpful hubby. Nearly killed me, literally. Don’t do that! Take care of yourself!

Saw this notification and literally squealed, I've been binging your content a lot recently (neurodivergence has become a BIT of a special interest of mine, plus you have a really soothing voice, lol) and I'm so excited you're back. As someone with ADHD who's also, as you brilliantly phrased it, "on the suspectrum," thank you for all you do. I'm finally realizing that I'm not a 'weird' or 'broken' neurotypical, I'm a perfectly normal neurodivergent person, and I credit that self-acceptance mostly to you. Like everyone has already said, please take care of yourself; we'd all rather you go at a sustainable pace for your health and sanity than burn yourself out trying to appease the algorithm gods. Whether that pace is every other day or every other year, we'll be here. Love you so much

Please don’t beat yourself up about not creating content regularly for the last few years. Having children and caring for them is very hard work, especially in the first few years. And you did also create the workbook! So you have been busy AND learning how to take better care of yourself. That is A LOT.
I’m glad to hear your RUclips spark seems to have returned. And I’m not a parent myself but I know a lot of neurodivergents are and I don’t encounter a lot of content on that topic. So I expect there’s an audience for it.
Whatever you decide to do, I will be a subscriber to your channel as that is the least I can do to support you. I hope you will find your groove soon. Good luck!

Just searched for your latest post yesterday! Your workbook is very helpful- I’m 14 months into a 2 year wait for assessment and am using it to get my copious notes organised! It’s a whole new language really, when you see a word or phrase and you realise ‘oh, that’s what that feeling is!’ Or something I thought was just a ‘me’ thing, now has a name, and that means others have experienced it too. Learning all the time, thanks to people like you, so thank you!

Thank you, Sam, for content past and present. You've provided information, spoken with a voice that I can relate to, helped me to see myself in a more positive way, and been someone that I referred others to. Your intelligence, your kindness, your warmth are all an important part of that, but it's been your honesty, your authenticity that has been most valued. Whether making yourself vulnerable by revealing yourself to us, openly changing your stance on something after reflection, or whatever, it's that that speaks most to me. So human, so real, so not 'perfect' and therefore unrelatable. Again, thank you. Take care of yourself and your family first, always. Blessed be.

Sam, your videos were what got me to consider I might be autistic, and get tested in 2021 at age 28. Turns out I was right!
Thank you for doing what you do and sharing yourself with us all, and I'm so sorry the comments have been so nitpicky and weird in the past. The internet loves being needlessly shouty about women/femme presenting people on the internet and it's obnoxious.
You're right, the first like 3 years or so of a new kid are kind of survival years for parents in Western society since we don't have much family help. I'm glad you're through it and that you're able to be more present for yourself again.

I'm a singer-songwriter who retired from performing in 2015 because I got sick of the pressure to look a certain way. It's mind-blowing how people think it's ok to openly talk about and criticize aging female bodies. Over the course of my music career, I'd snowed myself into believing that people cared about my music first. Turned out that wasn't necessarily the case. I have no regrets about quitting, just sadness over humanity's thoughtlessness. I'd tell you to ignore the critical voices but I know how hard it is. Please know that your core audience is here for information and we are not judging you. You could look like Shrek for all I care, I just want advice on how to deal with my ASD/ADHD!🤣

I don't have kids, and nowhere near the following you have, but I found this video super relatable. I think people who have never made content don't understand the incredible amount of time and energy that goes into it, even beyond the parts they see. I'm pretty sure every single video I've made in the last few years has started "Sorry it's been so long since my last video" and there are always people in the comments reassuring me that it's totally fine and to take my time, so now it's my turn to do the same. I discovered your channel around Spring 2022 as I was looking into getting an autism evaluation, and you have so much evergreen content that there's been plenty for me to watch. I totally get the feeling that you aren't living up to the expectations of your viewers, but you're really doing fine as far as I'm concerned (especially also having written the book and doing the coaching stuff, etc. AND raising two little kids)!

Yay!!! You helped me a lot when I was first discovering that I was Autistic. I used your book in my diagnosis process. My therapist has known me for over a year so she said she had A LOT of content... 🙄 Anyway, I had already gone through the book and wrote down answers to many questions so it gave her a bit more content.
I'm a mother of 5. 4 are adults, one teen. It's BRUTAL at times. I raised them all not knowing my own needs let alone the kids needs. I know many if not all are Autistic but they don't all want to hear it, others do. Anyway, did I mention the ADHD??? The point I was trying to make is, take the time you need (not that you need our "permission", I mean it as encouragement.)

I’m an AuDHD first time parent to a now 14 month old. I really appreciate this video. I knew motherhood was going to be challenging but nothing could have prepared me for the trauma that could come with it as a neurodivergent person. I love my son more than anyone and I constantly feel like I’m failing him even if logically I know that I’m probably not. I have severely let myself go and I don’t know how to come back from it. I had/have grand dreams to post my art and music and try to do something with that but my rejection sensitive dysphoria and paranoia just keep preventing me from doing so even though I have everything lined up. Nevermind the chronic executive dysfunction. I’ve been trying to do this since even before my son was born so the challenge has been doubled and then some. It doesn’t help that I’m an elder first time parent at 37 years old.
I hope you talk more about this and I look forward to seeing more videos from you 💕.

As someone who has found their "thick skin" getting thinner over time, I find it completely incredible when someone (particularly someone that presents as female) can put themselves on places like RUclips or tic tok. The negative feedback that some people give would completely destroy me emotionally and I am always impressed with anyone who is willing to face that for the greater good. You're an amazing individual and I'm glad that you are able to do this considering how difficult people can be.

Thank you SO much Sam and welcome back 🥰 Your new e-mail list for autistic buisnessowners comes at a perfect time for me. After one year of burnout and sick leave from my regular job Im considering starting my own buisness this/next year,, at least part time. Grateful for some tips and good advice from a fellow auDHDer!

My neurodivergent kid is in their 30s now, but I could relate to everything you were saying. Including the trauma, which is an aspect of parenting I absolutely did not expect at the time, and am still processing even now to an extent.
From my perspective, any content you provide is very welcome, helpful and enjoyable. Simply being a person who talks about autism and AuDHD adds value to the space because , while your experiences may overlap in certain areas with those of other creators, they are not identical. And everyone has a different vibe and approach that may really resonate with a given viewer more than that of another person, or at different times. If I hear some of the same things repeated by different creators, I don’t think “oh, boring, I know all this”. I invariably either 1) am reminded that yes, this is actually a reality and I am struggling with this thing because it’s legit a thing that people struggle with. Or 2) I end up understanding something in a different way because a different human used different words to describe it that resonated with my specific experiences.
Your workbook has also been a help to me, even though I am very avoidant about doing the work it lays out simply because I don’t remember big chunks of my life and struggle to articulate some of it even when I do remember. But having a framework and prompts has been so valuable in keeping me at it, however slowly, without having to both do the work, and figure out what the work even is.
Much love and appreciation to you. ❤️

It’s good to see you Sam! Being an ND parent is so hard, so no need to explain yourself, but your honesty is also very appreciated!
Also, have 2 businesses and I would definitely be interested in learning more about your new coaching program!

Hi! i'm happy you're back. I have to admit i'm one of the people who made a comment about the ringlight in the glasses. I noticed that my own autistic mind was just completely distracted from that, which made me unable to follow what you were talking about, to such an extend that I decided to close my eyes and just listen. Which was just a pitty. I hope that at least for me personally that explained why i said somethign about it.
You're awesome! Just keep doing what you're doing. Focus on yourself, your health and your family first and only after that let us have a piece of you ;)

Okay, thank you for taking the time you need for your self and your various other endeavors.
And thank you for your workbook. I used it as one of my prep tools prior to my assessment.
And thank you for saying "not that the quality reflects that... It's just one of those projects that's dragging on forever." 😂 I may have a few of those nagging at my pda brain lately. It gave me a good laugh when I heard you share that.
You rock! Excited to check out the ND business owner newsletters 🎉 ❤ 👏🏻

So now I'm off in my head trying to imagine what kind of show a performing goldfish would put on! I'm picturing a big stage, and in the middle of that stage is one of those small, round, three-legged tables, covered by a cloth, and on that table sits a goldfish bowl, with a spotlight shining down on it. The audience sits in rapt attention while Goldfish Sam swims endlessly round and round. What will she do next?!
