Having been in the US as a doctoral student for two years, this is my very first time commenting on RUclips. A few years ago, I came across your book 天生罪人 in the Chinese version, and then I listened to the original version in English, Born a Crime, at least ten times during the period when I was applying for a PhD program in China while COVID was still a big thing. I’ve somehow followed your career path, seeing you leave The Daily Show. It must have been a long (mental) journey to reach this point where you can finally freely decide what you want to talk about and deliver to the public. I respect your critical thinking and will continue to follow your work. Keep fighting!

I really appreciate that Mr. Johnson talked about the Maui backlash. I appreciate his thoughtful response. When first seeing the video asking for help I didn't take the request how it was portrayed in the media. I later got a feel for the backlash. This is not a criticism by me, I appreciate that hearts were in the right place trying to help others. Perhaps had the request been presented in a different way at the time, more as "this terrible thing happened and we are helping raise money for the victims both by donating ourselves and in other ways that we can. If you can join us and help..."

I have been to the USA for the first time. Thought I knew it. The exxagerating emotions and hard work stuff. But as a a Dutchie, I feel humbled now. Because like the Rock, people in the US are really really hard workers. Its not about them, but how they become the person to tribute to society. I dair to say that its so much healthier then the attitude we have in the Netherlands. Dont get me wrong, its good we have healthcare and a network to support the people without a job. But that one thing: get the most out of your self, be a true gift for society: I learned to appreciate that in USA people (I met). So also Dwayne Johnson.
    Love it!!

You mean : "The People's Champion". The People's Elbow, is the name of The Rock's wrestling finishing move. It's the thing when he pulls his elbow pad off, and leaps over the opponent lying on the ground in the center of the ring, while he bounces off the ropes on both sides of the ring at the same time. Then Rock drops his exposed elbow, to chest area of the opponent that he does the move to.

I am a big fan Trevor. You may be surprised by that since I’m an old (65) white southern US Army veteran who had been a lifelong Republican until the Party nominated Trump. (Just trying to create some perspective) But I love your way of thinking and style of articulation. I admire your journey. Enjoyed reading your biography. Enjoyed as in I learned so much from what you shared and the way you shared it. I appreciate your humor so very much. I discovered you on the Daily Show which again might be surprising to you since that show is not at top of the watch list for most Republicans. Now I am an “unaffiliated” I’ve always had an open mind to other people, cultures, religions and ways of seeing the world. Particularly the positives we can learn from one another. You are that type of force so just know that there are some in my demographic who love and appreciate you and your message. Great interview with the Rock. I’ll continue to stay tuned in and share. Stay strong my friend. Much love.

As a former republican, now unaffiliated, what do you think of the blatant media bias against republicans and anyone with views democrats held just a couple years ago? It is scary to me.
I had voted for Obama his first term(my first year to vote), was registered Independent. I recently changed my affiliation to republican so I could participate in local elections. I choose republican after witnessing everything that has happened in America and with the legacy media, it seems to get worse and worse over time.

Really enjoying this conversation. I remember the days when you could easily disagree with others and it was fine to agree to disagree. It seems like the need to polarize thoughts and opinions has been pushed by certain influencers to divide and conquer so to speak. I'm not sure what the end goal is but clearly not the common good. Maybe it is being a part of my generation who straddle the analog and digital worlds- equally comfortable in both-since we accepted one another with the only thing we didn't embrace was a jerk/bully. In accepting and embracing one another we got a fuller look at the sameness of people and appreciated what differences could bring- opening up to more possibilities. I look forward to more podcasts and guests with thoughtful views on the human condition.

I see nothing wrong with getting others to also contribute as that will help them get to their end goal, and it will be more inclusive because if they paid for everything the next comment will be that they bought Maui... can't please ya'll at all!!

It's always a great thing when people with next to nothing contribute to something like that - no matter how much they give. It's always about the thought, not the amount.
This may be an obvious question: but what did the US government do to help? It's ridiculous that charities even exist this day, while governments spend money on weapons or telling you what countries you should or should not hate. It's a never ending cycle.

Without to value any US American bad, but this conversation between them both is so special, cause they both are from native cultures. Noah from Africa and Dwayne from Samoans. The way of thinking is more like to grow and raise from the roots to an American culture. May Im wrong, but I see that as a privilege and a gift to see the world from another perspective. More human beeing. Dont missunderstand me, but US American are got built from Europeans, Africans, Asians and more. Im observing this also from interviews between Americans and Europeans.
Im enjoying this interview really much and I went to US for explore this culture. The mix between natives and Americans is a gift for everyone. Same here in Europe. We are really mixt now with Asians, Africans and much and this is a gift in our culture that we get win something great from every country like they do from us.
Thank you for this podcast, I love it.

You don't have to agree or disagree with anyone, including families and friends, that you have a dialogue with as long as it is in a very civilized manner as it should.
