Firsthand testimony: G&L not only makes great-playing, well-put-together guitars in their Tribute line, they deal with the consumer fairly and stand behind their instruments.
G&L gets ignored a lot because people forget about them. I'm in favor of them doing more marketing, but hey, it's not my company. Great playing, great instruments for the money.
Agreed. I have a Korean tribute ASAT I bought about 15 yrs ago from a shop that no longer exists. Hard to find any local dealers here in Canada. But the guitars are amazing! Wish there were more around so we could actually try them out. Fantastic guitars and more interesting (and better IMO) than Fenders that you see everywhere.
Glen Campbell played a custom G&L Comanche with a hardtail G&L bridge and a single volume and tone knob in a sparkle blue finish during his farewell tour-saw him twice on that tour and the guitar was gorgeous and Glen’s playing was awesome and amazing as always.
I have had two G&L Tribute guitars, an ASAT and a Legacy, for a couple of years now and I love them. They always bring a smile to my face whenever I play them.
Referring to G&L Tributes as "Affordable" is technically accurate, but I think of the Tribute line as the "Best Value" available in electric guitars. They play like 3 times their price and nothing priced lower can come close to the quality of components and the build. I have 3 G&L's (2 Tributes and 1 Fullerton), and by far these are the finest "out of the box" guitars I've ever experienced. Now with adding to this line, they have only improved those measures. Last, I will say thanks to Anderton's for backing the G&L brand. The company you keep, says a lot about yourself!
That blue ASAT is gorgeous, as are those burled poplar tops. I have a Classic Bluesboy ASAT and the value for money is ridiculously good. They should be far more popular than they are.
MFD pickups are amazing, huge fan. However, they will make you use the tone and volume knob, because they pick up absolutely everything that string is doing. Especially great for rich clean tones, but under distortion a little rolling back of volume and tone to 9 each takes some of the harshness out. Of the MFD pickups, the ASAT Special is the big monster, and my favorite.
Waiting on a US ASAT thinline myself and it is tough. Can’t wait for it to arrive! As a fingerstyle jazz guy, I think the MFDs have a very appealing clean sound
I have the blue Comanche tribute with the poplar burl. It is currently my number one and I have some wicked axes. They really got it right. I would have paid 2k for the guitar if I had to. That's how good it is.
It’s cool getting to hear Lee get better and better as they make videos. His hands move SO much smoother AND FASTER than back in the day. I know it’s just noodling, but I think it says a lot about a player. From America “good shout” 💪👌
I love the sound of these guitars...I meet someone in the late 80s who played a G&L, who was a big suzie quatro fan...never heard a bad g&L guitar...they all have great sound very full and fat sort of sound
Great guitars. Better than any other of 35+ guitars i have. Leo has been my hero in the guitar world since the 50's. He revolutionized us all. By one guys! Thanks fellas!
When I was a youth looking for a better guitar the guys at the shop were steering me towards a used Comanche. I wanted the SG because it looked cooler to me at the time. I sold the SG a long time ago but I bet I would’ve held on to the G&L.
I just bought a Comanche Tribute. It had some issues out of the box, and I'm slowly working through them. I'm hoping that this guitar will be a good one.
Love the Tributes and have previously had an ASAT Classic and currently have a Doheny. I’m afraid the problem will always be on resale. Punters would rather have a name Fender or Squier dispite G& L being superior guitars when properly set up.
I own a American Legecy special, I bought it in Holland utrecht about 25 years ago. Fantastic guitar my favorite from 6 guitars including American strats, Gibson, Ibanez, To Schecters and Tokia. Excellent quality instruments.
Its probably been stated but dont ever try and move a magnet on vintage pickups that have the fiber bobbins, the mag can catch the wire and wreck the coil
Do they have similar MFD pickups with adjustable pole pieces on any bass guitars? Could you put one in a violin, viola, or cello and adjust the center two to compensate for the curve of the violin's neck?
Anyone got one yet? Some online reviews say they have a push/pull expander circuit on one of the tone knobs, but there's nothing on the Andertons site, or in this video. Is the push/pull specific to certain markets or was it just overlooked?
Leo did the zcoil style pickup back in the 60s with the Fender Electric XII just before Fender was sold to CBS. A lot of his 60s ideas didn't really get real attention till the 80s
I really dig your jam sessions on these intros. You guys have some nice vibes there. I'm going to start using these intros as backing tracks to see if I can pick up a bit of your style of playing.
Hi have a Tribute Comanche- -7 tonal options!! It’s also alittle fatter than a regular strat so has the fat strat sound- really the only guitar you’ll ever need has jazz tones, strat, tele. Only thing I’d change is the nut and put on a graph Tex so whammy works better- gorgeous maple flame cap with z- coils for only 5 bills with case!!!!
I have a G&L Bluesboy Custom (you can pick your own specs when buying a G&L guitar) it's glorious ... ive had it over a year now and I still freak out when I pick it up occasionally because it's such a good guitar
I wasn't a fan of the poplar burl tops at first and now I own a guitar with it lol and I love that guitar. I think those tops look their best with birds eye necks which I don't have one like that yet.
I got a Stratocaster guitar, telecaster guitar, a 335 guitar, a les paul guitar, a P90 epiphone casino and a Gretsch guitar and G&L is a sound of its own but not a different enough sound to have separate voice really different from all of the other guitars I have, I bought for their individual sounds, if I got the G&L Comanche tribute first before I got a Stratocaster, I would of never bought a Stratocaster.
Dear Pete, yes these guitars have piqued my interest but I have just noticed your watch. I’m a bit of a sucker for cuff watches but they ain’t easy to get in Blighty. Any way you could let me know where you got it please?
Its about air circulation and "sound" reverberation within the body. The reverberation interacts with the wood, bracing, etc. Hence the reason you see it in classical instruments such as cellos, upright bass, violins, etc. If you ever get to try one, strum a chord and immediately place your ear on top of the sound hole. You'll feel the air "rushing" out. Different sound hole shapes (and wood combinations) can affect the 'tone" that is ultimately produced...in tandem with the pick ups of course.
@Jimmy John I mean, with classical instruments they are fully hollowbody with only a small stick in the middle of the two faces right under the bridge, so you get a lot more of that sound. With an f hole on a tele, its a lot less exaggerated
FYI Tribute Comanches are not new. I am in the US, and I have a Tribute Comanche with a s/n starting with a 15, so I assume it is a 2015. Fantastic guitar.
I've got a swamp ash asat, it's an extremely heavy chunk of timber and sounds great...the setup needed a tweak or two but you can't knock them for the price
These are my kinda guitars. You different single coil sounds than your standard Strats and Teles. And how great is that translucent blue burst? Anyone else like the headstock design? I personally really like it, but my friend hates it and prefers the Fender headstocks.
Just depends on what you want really. To the same effect, the Mexican Strats are built as well as any American-made guitar and lack none of the quality in terms of hardware, AND you get the classic authentic Fender style, headstock, branding, and sound. I'd take a Mexican Fender Player strat over any of these personally, but I can see why someone with 50 guitars would buy one of these for their original styles. Plus, the Fender will ALWAYS have much better resale value, since there's always a million people looking to buy a used Fender Strat.
Actually Cap, G&L have done Tribute Comanches for a while. I have a white one that I got on their clearance section of their website for $280. The Z-Coils work so well with their PTB system.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me the brand and model of any direct replacement tuners for the Tribute series G&L guitars?? I just bought a 2021 Legacy AND S-500.... well built, awesome hardware, awesome pickups..etc.. BUT the stock 2 pin tuners BLOW. USA G&L tuners are NOT compatible. Fender tuners are NOT compatible. Even the Hipshot "plate" thing doesn't work. Surely some brand has to sell some sort of upgrade to these junk tuners. I hate to sell these guitars over the tuners being junk.... so hopefully someone knows of something. I'm cool with locking or standard tuners. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
LOL at the two guitars in the beginning. I love G&L Guitars and am a fan you could say. Those guitars on the other hand though just make me shake my head. They took a basswood body and gave it a fancier paint job and they want 750 USD for it. I Guess that shows how hard and expensive wood is getting these days.
Anderton's site says they have 2 in stock (right now), but the blue Comanche is sold out and needs to be ordered. The Comanche is an awesome guitar creation by Leo!
Firsthand testimony: G&L not only makes great-playing, well-put-together guitars in their Tribute line, they deal with the consumer fairly and stand behind their instruments.
Can confirm: G&L Tribute series is the absolute best "bang for your buck" out there, hands down.
Especially when musician’s friend has their “crazy deal of the day” and you can score one for $300
@Richard Moore tribute ASAT classic is on it every other month
Excessively harsh don’t you think?
They just had the Olympic white asat classic on there last week for 299
@Richard Moore I’ve bought three G&L Tributes on MF’s SDOTD 🤷🏼♂️
Great purchases by the way 👍🏻
G&L gets ignored a lot because people forget about them. I'm in favor of them doing more marketing, but hey, it's not my company. Great playing, great instruments for the money.
Well they still have Leo’s design. And a lot more affordable
Less marketing probably means they can sell the guitars cheaper
Yeah, bought a tribute jazz bass about 3 months ago. Alnico pickups and I really can’t tell a difference
G&L and musicman are both superior to fender
Glen Campbell played a custom G&L Comanche with a hardtail G&L bridge and a single volume and tone knob in a sparkle blue finish during his farewell tour-saw him twice on that tour and the guitar was gorgeous and Glen’s playing was awesome and amazing as always.

I have a custom build and a tribute and both are great. The value for money is second to none.
That blue ASAT is gorgeous, as are those burled poplar tops. I have a Classic Bluesboy ASAT and the value for money is ridiculously good. They should be far more popular than they are.
Greetings from one year on! How do you rate it in 2023? Did it hold up to the test of time?
Surprised they didn't mention it but G&L does make a traditional sounding Tele called ASAT classic with alnicos.
I got one of those G&L Comanche’s from Andertons yesterday! What a guitar!!
What do you like the most?
I have several G&L Fullerton guitars and I would put them over anything made by Fender, even custom shop. The Tributes seem like a tremendous value.
Yes, I love my ASAT Special as well.
The American made G&L guitars are fantastic!
what is the difference? is it made with less wood glueing?
Waiting on a US ASAT thinline myself and it is tough. Can’t wait for it to arrive! As a fingerstyle jazz guy, I think the MFDs have a very appealing clean sound
yooooo how is it!?
@@MajicFreeman It’s great! I really like the neck and it sounds fantastic.
G&L seems to be a guitar brand that’s lost it’s way in the music world but not forgotten or played by many musicians
True Musicians always have at least one G&L.
Great-looking guitars. I especially liked the red Tele-esque model that Pete played.
Just got a tribute fallout recently and it's my favorite guitar. Don't sleep on G&L
Jikes ... this Comanche is just ... WOW!
Great demo! Thanks a lot!
I have the blue Comanche tribute with the poplar burl. It is currently my number one and I have some wicked axes. They really got it right. I would have paid 2k for the guitar if I had to. That's how good it is.
Hey did you guys show the push pull pot on the Comanche??? Hidden awesome secret feature!
G&L had commanche tributes before. I have a cream one(vintage yellow)
They also had one about 15 years ago in a burst.
I Love G&L Guitars. They are unique sounding and good build quality.
It’s cool getting to hear Lee get better and better as they make videos. His hands move SO much smoother AND FASTER than back in the day. I know it’s just noodling, but I think it says a lot about a player. From America “good shout” 💪👌

Can we get a full return of the Mack cover someday? Glorious
It's so weird...I've had that song in my head all week, and then Pete brings it up here. :)
25 years old this year. Scary.
Great guitars. Better than any other of 35+ guitars i have. Leo has been my hero in the guitar world since the 50's. He revolutionized us all. By one guys! Thanks fellas!
I own four G&L’s, but they’re all US models and I don’t think I’ve ever played a tribute. I may have to try these new tributes!
They look gorgeous!! I own a Tribute S-500 and it plays and sounds really nice. I would love to get one of these. I love the finish
Comanche pickups are the guitar version of split-coil Precision bass pickups. That's why they don't hum.
The comanche has also a push/pull system to had more pick up configurations!!
When I was a youth looking for a better guitar the guys at the shop were steering me towards a used Comanche. I wanted the SG because it looked cooler to me at the time. I sold the SG a long time ago but I bet I would’ve held on to the G&L.
"You're like my wife, she never let me finish (got interrupted again)...".
Priceless.
I just bought a Comanche Tribute. It had some issues out of the box, and I'm slowly working through them. I'm hoping that this guitar will be a good one.
You boys are killing it today.........Pete, I'm cracking up here at your one liners.
Love the Tributes and have previously had an ASAT Classic and currently have a Doheny. I’m afraid the problem will always be on resale. Punters would rather have a name Fender or Squier dispite G& L being superior guitars when properly set up.
Simple answer. Don't sell it. My Tribute S500 is a keeper!
Love the Commanches
I just love the sound of those G & L pickups.
Those all look and sound amazing! Will there be any changes to solid body ASATS from G&L in 2021?
First time i see Lee kind of outplaying Pete feeling wise. That blue Semi is delicious !
Boy oh boy, it's a good thing Pete donned them shades (!)
watching the intro jam with the cc on is interesting
foreign to me bye
I own a American Legecy special, I bought it in Holland utrecht about 25 years ago. Fantastic guitar my favorite from 6 guitars including American strats, Gibson, Ibanez, To Schecters and Tokia. Excellent quality instruments.
Pete’s laugh when Lee says about getting one of his more distorted pedals made me weep haha
I’m pretty sure the neck radius of the ASAT classic semi hollow is 12” and not 9.5” as Pete said…
Loved the sound you guys got out of the ASATs in the closing jam really cool
Its probably been stated but dont ever try and move a magnet on vintage pickups that have the fiber bobbins, the mag can catch the wire and wreck the coil
Bring cup editing back pls xD
only OG`s know what I am talking about
Was shocked at the price for the ASAT in Candy Apple 🍎 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great solos both of you man!
Great video guys. The playing, the chat...and the guitars sound great! Thinking I may PX a Fender USA Tele for a G&L...
Do they have similar MFD pickups with adjustable pole pieces on any bass guitars? Could you put one in a violin, viola, or cello and adjust the center two to compensate for the curve of the violin's neck?
Some of the tops on these are absolutely stunning and looking at the shop front the value seems pretty good as well.
Anyone got one yet? Some online reviews say they have a push/pull expander circuit on one of the tone knobs, but there's nothing on the Andertons site, or in this video. Is the push/pull specific to certain markets or was it just overlooked?
They sound rathe gorgeous
All about Squire's and G&L Tributes. But these tributes are like Player's Series quality for 2-300 Dollars cheaper. I'm sold... 🎸
Dude they're better than players
literally same price as mexican fenders

Pete playing a guitar with a hang tag... Reminds me of Minnie Pearl! 😉😜

A lot of his 60s ideas didn't really get real attention till the 80s

Are all the tribute series guitars made from the same quality American hardware or just the new ones in this vid?
Do F-holes have any impact on the tone? I mean, is there a valid reason to go with it other than the looks?
Wondering the same
I believe they're mainly for weight relief. You may get more feed back.
They help with weight but also make the overall tone warmer by rounding out the edges and pushing the mids. Gives it a nice tone
