Things I miss - Build a Bear . Rainforest Cafe . Now Tortilla joes
ESPN zone and House of Blues, too.
I’m super sad about rainforest cafe😢
watching socal disney dad every day until i go to disneyland, countdown 93/0
Same!!😂
Same! 😁
you guys are not going the same exact day XD@@eileenchang8865
The best! We did a December trip and their advice was spot on and made a world of difference!! We are going back in April we had such a great time 😊
@@PDXKate That nice! I am also going in April 😊
Man, it’s staggering how much that place has changed since I first visited it in the mid 2000’s. I used to go to concerts with my girlfriend at the House and Blues; and have dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe.
As an annual pass member, I love stopping for a meal at downtown Disney prior to entering the park.
These videos are always so helpful ❤
Thank you!
Planning a trip for 2025 and your videos are so helpful ☺️
Thank you!
You know what would probably trickle in views eventually is whole ride play throughs. (Record riding every ride in all parks you got to and create a compilation for each park and put them in their own play list) whenever I go somewhere new or it’s coming soon I look up ride play throughs! Idk if I’m the only one
Clutch video, not many people have done this area in detail like this thanks, going to DL next yr
The downtown disney video is so helpful cause i’m trying to plan what we’ll do and where we will eat the day we arrive but don’t have park tickets for. Thank you!!
Glad to hear that Porto's is coming to Downtown Disney. I love that place. Love Earl of Sandwich too. I have to come back when Porto's comes.
I wish Gideon’s would come to DD 😊
Me too!
"Sephora, oh, it's closed, good, thank you!" 😄 Hilarious! Exactly how I feel!
I’ve never been to the original Disneyland (though I’d love to!) - my ‘home park’ is Disneyland Paris, and they’re currently refurbishing their equivalent area known as ‘Disney Village’ so I watched this to get a sense of what it might look like. I’m not sure I like it: all those non-Disney brands make it seem like any other high street. But thank you for the thorough tour!
Seoul Sister makes me think of the song "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle. "Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, flow sista"
Third tower is Adventure Tower. Thanks for the tour! Looking forward to a May trip!
omg I've been watching your videos everyday too, we're going on Mother's day before my kid's 2nd birthday. I hope to see you and your family to sincerely thank you for all the time & money saving advice, love from vegas!
The Craftsman Grill was a Godsend for us when we went in June '23. The Nitro Cold Brew was needed for the Early Entry mornings following the late evenings in the parks :)
I'm so happy the old Disney Esplanade music is back. I was there back in May during the 100th, and I couldn't get into the music.
It was Walt Disney World music back then. And it gave me Disney Blues so bad I actually booked a trip to WDW just me to try to film some stuff last April (didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped, but it was a fun trip all the same!) 🤣
So if their goal was to get people to book a vacation, it was successful.
1 week from today I’ll be there so excited maybe I’ll see you guys there
Thank You so much for stepping into the Dress Shop for me to see what it is like, I appreciate it. Clare from the UK.
2:01 there’s a misconception and we often take Disney’s side of the storytelling.
Disney came in with plans for the hotel which were initially approved with the tax break. Then Disney revised the plans down to have less hotel rooms and a smaller infrastructure and wanted the same tax break; then the city said no deal.
See, I always assumed Disney just started building BEFORE getting approval. And then the city didn’t end up approving and Disney was left holding the bag, so to speak.
So my perspective had Disney at fault, just in a different way.
But this makes more sense to me. They had approval, and then changed the terms, and got denied when they tried to update the permit.
Downtown Disney is an inexpensive fun Disney experience. I have been visiting there yearly on my OC visits. I won't have the time for WDW when I am in Orlando in 2 weeks but will visit their Downtown Disney
7 days till our 1st trip of 2024!!
Awesome! Have fun!
These shop tours are my favorite
WHAT I LIKE IS 50s DINNER
Wow, I think you read my mind from California, to Taunton in the UK! I was going to ask for a downtown Disney tour, all I can do is compare it to Disney Springs. Thank You for your psychic abilities at such a great distance! Clare from the UK.
Loved this tour🩵 thanks for sharing. I always feel so well informed after watching your videos.
Thank you!
HI I USE TO WORK THERE ALONG TIME AGO THERE WAS ONLY 2 TOWERS THE BAGE WAS CALLED THE MARINA THE BLUE ONE WAS CALLED THE SEAIRA
Great vlog Traver! And I believe the exterior Lego store display is St George slaying the dragon😊
Thanks for the video! Heading to Disneyland this Sunday to Thursday for the first time
ily STANDS FOR "I LOVE YOU"?? WHAT??!! omg... I feel so dumb... my daughter loves these.. Thank you for your videos by the way.
Great tour...thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it.
when i go i want to find that waterfall patio area next to the hotels:)
Hi Traver. Are the merch and food prices in Downtown Disney similar to what you would expect in the parks itself?
Yes. No merchandise is going to be cheaper or more expensive either in Downtown Disney or in the parks itself. If the item is being sold in both locations, it'll be priced the same. There are, however, items in Downtown Disney you won't find in the park, and vice versa. So it's best to do your shopping at the end of your trip after you've had the chance to poke around all the shops.
Food is generally the same price range, but of course every place is a little different when it comes to prices.
I really enjoy these tour videos! These are great for when I'm doing the thread mill or walking indoors.
I thought i was the only one watching these during my workout too lol
This was a great video to watch before our first visit to DL in October!
Going next week! So much has changed since I last went. Thanks for the update!
Earl of sandwich is moving back west part of downtown
Waterfalls are my fav too!
Wonderful thanks! We are staying at the Grand CA this weekend - so excited for the food festival.
I actually have a question for Traver and everyone! My husband and I would love to take our 3 kids to Disneyland, but we would have to drive there and it will take 3 long days of driving to get there. Do you think it’s worth it for us or should we go to Disney world instead which would cut a day of driving off? We went to Disney world last year with our kids and loved it, but Disneyland just seems so magical.
Personal opinion here.
Disneyland is SO much smaller than Disney World!
For a comparison, Disneyland has a lot squeezed into smaller acreage. Be prepared for tighter spaces on walkways and in stores. This leads to crowding very quickly. Less places to eat overall, especially with Downtown Disney under construction.
Personally, California Adventure has been lacking for quite some time. It was never intended to have Disney related anything until they realized they Had to tie Disney into the park in order to sell tickets & merch. Yet now, a lot of this park feels empty.
If you’re going to loose 2 days just in driving alone, I personally would go to Florida & Disney World again. Gas prices are high everywhere BUT Expensive here!! We pay about $4.87 per gallon to well over $5.55 per gallon right now!
Unless you have time & were planning on doing anything else here outside of Disney properties, I would probably hold off?
Good luck deciding, from one parent to another!🙂
Is flying an option, because if it would take that many days to drive each way, I would probably only do it if you could fly. The nice thing with Disneyland is once you are on the property you won’t need a car, so you can still stay nearby offsite or onsite and either walk or take an ART bus to the parks.
Thank you so much for the replies! It is a lot of driving and would be rough at times I’m sure. The flights just add so much more money to the trip for us, but I probably should look more into it and see if I can find cheaper flights. Thank you for all the insight. I love your your videos and this one on downtown Disney was so nice to see 😊
Wish there was a T-Rex restaurant like the one in FL. I know rainforest cafe is not the greatest but it’s fun for the kids
Would love to see a more in depth video of the merch available at world of Disney! Great video!!
Thank you for a delightful tour.
Thanks for the scoop on the Double D
Just found you ... excellent quality of video and your commentary is to the point! Hoping to come back ... soon, need to do my planning (your videos are so helpful).
Thank you so much!
Finally videos that are straight to the point, informative and fun to watch!! This is what I need when I can’t get back for awhile! Oh, do you have any of just food? Thank you!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Here’s my food playlist:

The food is my favorite part of Disneyland.
perfect! Thank you! I’ve watched 2 more already! Loving these!
Interesting! I've enjoyed watching!
Favorite Disneyland creator!
Ballast point started in San Diego. Then the owner sold it started cutwater canned cocktails then sold that company.
I wish they would bring back rainforest cafe! Maybe where Tortilla jo's is?
1 day till my first trip
Spent all day at Disneyland on Monday and will be there everyday through Saturday…according several people I so appreciate in my life at Earl of sandwich told me that point blank are staying open on a month to month , and they aren’t being told when demolition will begin ….soo pins and needles at this time. But they did say there new building will be in the park side building.
That’s helpful to know. Thanks.
Wow never clicked so fast. Love the tours!
I know i am looking at this video pretty late in the game but I hope you are scanning the old videos. Love this video by the way. I was just wondering if you can get like a cheap magic band for if you have Genie+ or do they give you something at the front gate.
The cheapest MagicBand is $35 I believe. It’s a non-pattern one. Just a solid color. But they don’t have them any cheaper. Only MagicBand+ works, none of the old WDW bands will work here.
I've been waiting for this vid 😄 Our first day (sunday) is going to be a explore hotels and downtown disney day (sneaky look at the fireworks at night maybe, perhaps) then the rest of the week (mon-fri) in the parks. Thank you for the tour! You didn't show, but is it true you can walk to Pixar Place from Downtown Disney too?
Fantastic tour, thank you! Love exploring and seeing all the hidden hot spots and seeing some favorite stores like Wonderground, Lego, Marceline's and World of Disney. Is there a place so good, it's worth leaving the park to eat at? Are there any more affordable options to eat in Downtown Disney versus the park or it is about the same?
Earl of Sandwich is great if it’s still open when you visit. Though they should have a food truck version open after they get kicked out of their current location.
Black Tap is also a really great spot for burgers and shakes.
Storyteller’s Cafe in the GCH is a great buffet meal.
Not necessarily more affordable as they’re about the same, if not pricier for the gourmet options. But I like all of those places.
Oh, and Tangaroa Terrace at the Disneyland Hotel is good quick service as well.
@@SoCalDisneyDad Good idea! Thanks!
Thanks for all those suggestions!!!@@SoCalDisneyDad
Great job! Very thorough tour. 😊
Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Great content as always.
It’s sad that so many things are/will be under construction. We are going at the beginning of June. I doubt any of the projects will be finished by then.
DtD has been under varying states of construction for the last two years or more. I definitely wouldn't get any hopes up about completion anytime soon.
Just love watching you guys! Where did you got your hat????
Star Trader in Tomorrowland (Star Tours exit shop) sometimes has it. It’s on a rotating basis. Right now they have a similar style Ahsoka hat.
It's pronounced oouva bar not U-V-A bar, also you can pay for your merchandise with the Disney app when you use the Disney merchandise mobile checkout.
Can you get french fries at any of the fast food restaurants in Downtown Disney?
I MISS RAINFORST CAFE AND TORTILLA JOES
Wow, I thought they tore down the ESPN Zone building!!
Nope. Still there. It’s not in use, so I don’t know why they haven’t torn it down to replace it with something else, but they haven’t.
@@SoCalDisneyDad it was supposed to be another hotel. But then Disney did not get approved by the city of Anaheim. That was the initial plan back around 2018 when espn closed.
@@Lawomenshoops I remember that. I just mean I figured they’d replace it with something now. Make it more useful overall.
This is perfect timing for my upcoming visit, so THANK YOU, Traver! As a fellow San Diego neighbor, how early do you recommend leaving in the morning to make it to rope drop?
I leave at 6 AM from El Cajon and make it into the park around 7:50 AM.
Factor more or less time as needed for your desired result. But that’s pretty average for me. It fluctuates on traffic and how busy of a day it’s going to be.
@SoCalDisneyDad Thanks neighbor! Lol. I'm in La Mesa, so that's super helpful!
Your better than fresh baked. That guy loves to hear himself talk.
Hi, we love your videos. I was hoping you could tell me how much the individual lightning lanes are for rise of the resistance and radiator springs racers, and also do they have a return time or can you use it at anytime that day?
The cost varies by day. It’s roughly in the $15-$20/person range.
I can’t see what it is today because they’re sold out.
And it’s for an hour window with whatever time you book it.
At WDW, it lets you select a time window at the point of booking. I’ve never bought an ILL here so I don’t know if it’s the same, or if it just assigns you the earliest available like the regular Genie+ service.
Porto's there? nom!
Yes! Last I heard they had recently finished the architectural plans, or were nearing finalization. And that Earl of Sandwich is there on a month-to-month basis. They could be given the order to close any time now.
Hi Traver will you be attending the food and wine festival at DCA 2024? I will be going to Disney around that time. Do you have to buy extra passes or tickets to attend that if you are already in DCA? I see you have a 2022 Food and Wine festival on your page. I will check that out.
I should have a 2023 video available as well.
But I will be attending this year on Friday, March 1st and will have a video out on Saturday, March 2nd.
There’s no extra cost to attend the festival itself. But there is to purchase the food of course.
@@SoCalDisneyDad wonderful. I will be looking forward to your video!! I’ll be going in April. Thanks for your reply !
One more question…for now. 😊We went to Aulani Feb last year and bought the plastic reusable mug that you could refill at the resort. I was just curious if the other hotels there have the same thing or was it just specific to Aulani. I was hoping to collect a DL plastic mug like I got at Aulani. Not looking to refill them since we’re staying off property.
Are there any playgrounds or places for kids to play close or in Disney downtown?
@@mariaalejandrasegoviapaez8516 Unfortunately not, no. Nothing outside the parks.
Do you think magic bands are collectables🤔💍
For sure.
What is magic band?
@@ThePetra88888 It’s an accessory that has your ticket linked to it for easier scanning into the park and using Genie+. Aside from that, it lights on in rides, and buzzes in time to nighttime performances. It’s a fun little add-on, but completely unnecessary.
Does anyone know if the beignets at downtown Disney are as good as the ones you get inside the park?
I haven't tried them, but I'm biased towards the park ones already because they've got Disney pixie dust on them, and the ones from Beignets Expressed aren't Disney owned. 😂
If you have a magic key for Disneyland do you get discounts at Disney world
Unfortunately, no. Though it doesn’t stop me from trying every time we go. 🤣
They ask if I’m an annual passholder and I just say “I am at Disneyland” and they smile and politely let me down.
@@SoCalDisneyDad that’s a bummer!
I don't recommend the Princess Dining Breakfast at Napa Rose. Even though they give you your money's worth. At $150 per adult and child I did not feel like it was worth it.
What happened to Sprinkles?!!? 😫😫😫
It’s been gone for awhile. About a year.
That black box on the side the whole time was very distracting
Did you just Pickle Dog shame us? :D
I’m pretty sure that idea was someone’s pregnancy craving. 🤣
Did I hear you pronounce Chipotle "Chipoltay"? It's pronounced "Chi-pote-lay"

What is all this bs man when i went to downtown disney no check point disney quest pleasure island god that was the best times of downtown disney
That was at Disney World which their area is now Disney Springs. This is for Disneyland
Just what they need, more Mexican food, blah
They are removing Tortilla Jo’s as the company that owns Tortilla Jo’s also owns Paseo and Centrico. So they are just closing one and opening another.
Thanks! Are both the Earl of Sandwich and the Earl of Sandwich Tavern moving?
Yes. Porto’s is taking over that whole building.
@SoCalDisneyDad Thank you!
