Bad is Bad is Standard Story Company's first feature length movie. It was written when we were 19 and shot when we were 20. Our total budget was about $6,000. We filmed it in 18.5 days in Richmond, Virginia in the summer of 2010 using the Canon 7d (which made up a quarter of our budget alone). This was one of the first feature films shot entirely on a DSLR, and one of the first to be distributed free on RUclips and Vimeo.

    About me:
I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

I saw this maybe five or six (?) years ago, and left a comment. I've thought about this movie several times since then, always with a bit of hope that you guys kept rising, went a long ways (maybe all the way to Hollywood?). I'm sure my comment was positive, but it's gone now. What? Anyway, maybe this comment will last another half decade, and I'll come back then to confirm. Y'all have to have set some sort of record for lowest budget/best movie.

It's an exciting time when more people start using film as a doable medium for the average person. This was very good for an amateur film. Anyone who doesnt agree needs to try filming themselves or their friends in a couple scenes and see how easy it is to look bad. This was an inspiring watch, I need to get in gear and write a script. It shows you can do big things by starting small! Thank-you for sharing this film and be proud you did it!

As a victim of rape I thought the movie was absolutely spot on. That is to say that often rape not only affects the victim but all others; the victims family, the rapists family, the communties of both. Thw writers and director deserve much creditation for confidently telling and showing the issue of rape.

I know how difficult it is to keep the momentum going in a feature film, but you did it convincingly.
I see you had difficulty with the kitchen floor, it seemed to bounce the camera. Or did you put a fake floor in so you could mess it up? But I was so engrossed in the story that it really was no problem, and that's what I always say. If you have a really great script, you are on to a winner.

Excellent editing, kept you on the edge of your seat at all times. Attention to subtle detail surpasses the major film industry. Example, the watch hanging on the rear view mirror. Film shots were inserted at most appropriate points in order to allow the viewer to better follow the plot. Example the whit car following and then a glimpse of the white car parked out of the front of the house. The only criticism I have is that the movie is too scary because it parallels real life scenarios. Story line and character development was excellent.

No problem. You did everything you could with the premise. Like, every type of situation that could happen. I was especially riveted during the final 1/3 of the movie, when things really ramped up.

Huge fan of revenge movies. Even bigger fan when it takes the literal 'Eye for an Eye' form. This was very much along the lines of I Spit on Your Grave (either version) as far as an indie revenge story, but what gave it such a great twist was that so much time had passed it was the least expected thing to happen. Great concept and story. If this is what you guys can do at your age and this budget, I can't wait to see what's next!

Similar concept to the film Funny Games only more straightforward. Im surprised at the neg comments. Psychologically sinister and I thought so well produced I thought it was a full blown professional film, couldnt tell any difference. In fact way way better than most full budget films. $6000, you gotta be kiddin! And the actings bloomin good especially the son - sinister and menacing but in a totally cold way

I just watched this on Amazon Prime. I thought it was excellent! So many small things in this movie that point to superb directing! The relationship between the two home invaders was so complex and believable. It held my interest from beginning to end. Of course, you can tell it was a low budget film...but that's part of what made it SO GOOD!
