  • I recently released a repair video for the W166, on the process to replace the armrest latch, well it turns out all the steps in the other video aren’t necessary to carry out the repair. In this video I talk about how to go about the repair process for the Center Compartment Armrest Latch as well as for the Media Selection Tool without the removal of the center console assembly from the vehicle. I hope you guys find this video helpful.

Mercedes wanted $800 dollars to replace rt arm rest latch. Part was $12.99. It took about 1.5 hrs to remove center part from console and replace latch. Great video thanks! TD.

Great video. Can you provide a little more detail on how to get to the screws on the back side of the compartment, near the rear A/C panel. Do you need to take out the A/C vent? How? I have a blank cavity where rear temperature controls would have been. 2016 GL450.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Not completely sure if my more in depth video where I actually show the fully disassembly process will help to answer your question, but perhaps take a look at that video on my channel, it’s the video published right before this one.

Question: By removing only the top two screws at the back of the console and pulling the A/C vent rearward far enough to unplug the blue light connector and remove the top two T-20 screws holding down the back of the storage compartment, is it overly difficult to reconnect the blue wiring connector since so little working space is available without also removing the two remaining bottom screws at the rear of the console?

Might be challenging to accomplish with removal of just the upper two T20s as the rear panel isn’t all that flexible, but if you have something you can wedge between the panel and the assembly to give you sufficient space to undo those two lighting connector screws along with the blue connector, then perhaps it can be done.. just dont let any of those screws fall down in between that little gap. Hope this helps. Check out my other in-depth video on the step by step process if you want and/or haven’t already. Take care.

@@OneStopShopGarage Thanks for your reply. I thought it might be a challenge so I will probably remove the two bottom screws as well to afford enough working room.

Can we see a better explanation of how to get those 4 torx T20 screws out of the back of the console? 2 are accessible through the ash tray. The other 2 are hidden. Show us how to get to them and the tools need to remove the cover to expose them please.

Take a look at my other W166 Arm Rest Latch Replacement video, it’s a more detailed video and I demonstrate the removal of those screws. Take care.

Where can I purchase a part to repair the latch that secures the passenger side lid on the console? Please advise. Thanks

eBay or Amazon my friend. I had ordered through eBay however. All you gotta do is search W166 armrest latch and it’ll take you right to what you need. They are sold in pairs, so in the event your other side latch breaks you got a replacement for that one too. Hope this helps. 🍻
