Brian, this is fantastic. The most useful info for stereos on this poxy car. Brian, I have put in a new Alpine CDE-196DAB head unit and cannot for the life of me get any radio display, nor the steering control to mesh with the unit. Any ideas and is there a way of getting any relevant code for a non-Renault head unit?

Hi. I have no idea about the Alpine unit - although its an excellent choice.
The Renault radio is a unit with a dedicated but separate display in the dash. I don't believe it is designed to display other radios information.

Daniel Berei lol 😁 these renaults have a common problem with wiring to the temperature sensor
My mother's old 1998 model had weird problem on the temp display.
It worked fine if the temperatures were under - 0°c, but soon as it got even in the +1°c it would continue to climb in the probably in the max that that thing allowed what was +59°c

Hi Brian. Please can you shed some light on a problem I have? I got a 2006 clio. Last Thursday I had a service done on my car. The bloke doing the service noticed that my steering wheel was a bit on the loose side and needed to remove the air bag to tighten up the nut. In doing so he had to disconnect the battery which turned off my radio/cd player. I found the code (0481) but had spent to many chances finding it. My problem is I have an error message on my display. I can only change the numbers by using the wheel as featured in your video. If I press the wheel as to enter the code it will return back to error. You video shows that you used the key card without turning on the engine. Would it work if I have the engine running.as it takes over the 30+ minutes needed to reset the code. The other day I took of the battery leads for a few moments but that had no effects. Today I had the radio still out but thought if I took the wires from the radio compleatly it might reboot itself but no, I am slowly banging my head now. I use my radio as I travel over 140 miles each day and not having my music and knowing I am doing something wrong is doing my swede in. Sorry if this message is long but it had everything that I have done in it. Thank you in advance for any help given.

When you disconnect the 12v battery leave the wires off for a few minutes, maybe up to 5 so that the radio is completely discharged. It's best to enter the code with just the ignition on, you should be able to do it quicker than I did in the video.
Thank you Brian. Sadly that did not work either.With the battery disconnected and the radio totally unplugged the error message still appeared. Just how hard can this thing be?????

I had to search video in RUclips to see how radio code is entered, strange that manual says nothing about it!

Maybe disconnect the power again. It should automatically show the four zeros if it wants the code.

Struggling to do it as I've. Had aa out there is no fault with breaks and the machine doesn't read and error codes
You need a Renault diagnostic to read the codes, AA will only have a generic reader. There was an app on the play store to do it with a small bluetooth module but can't find it atm.
As long as the light in the handbrake control lights up to show the brakes on it should pass the MOT.
Have you looked at the wiring under the front passenger seat? There is a water leak that can come into the car from under the bonnet hinge and the damp can affect different circuits. Unfortunately its very common to happen, thats what my problem was but I had an understanding MOT station and they checked it by the light in the hand control and ignored my "intermittent" fault warning ;) .

You need the letter and three numbers to get the unlock code for the radio if it gets locked because it has lost power

Disconnect the battery power so that the radio will reboot itself. It starts the process all over again

Yes you cant write letters. So go google play and install renault radio code app so it would translate your code with letter into 4 digit code;)
