Even today, Laserdisc players look like something new, modern and futuristic. State of the art machines . And the same happens with the discs. It,s quite odd because we are talking about a technology that is obsolete and no film will never be released again in this format.
@@manuelvalderrama7483 the best players are from 1987/88 til 2001. For 1987 to 1994/ early 95 players normally uses better mechanism for side switching and have no Dolby ac3 output but least have optical out, s video. Common Players from 1995 til 2009 players uses the m holder mechanism which can broke and needs to be replaced but higher end players at that time would retain the clockwise side switching mechanism.
I bought my first LD player new sophomore year in college, cld-3030. Don't remember when it failed. Then, I bought another, perhaps the dvl-9? When it failed, I I bought a new dvl-90 and it works without issue today.
As a laserdisc fan since the early 90's i have been lucky in more recent years to have aquired a good selection of the better players. Japan kept the very best models, so i had to import them, it took me a while but i stopped when i found a mint serviced HLD-X9, this outperforms all the others, only the S9 comes close on video but not sound or build quality. Now is the time to buy a good working player, spare parts are now hard to find. The format has done well, and i feel it was a shame that it was pushed out by DVD, they should have waited until Blu-Ray arrived, early DVD's were not that good with compressed audio and blocky video.
