yes, they tweaked some of explicit lyrics of the original. regarding church at the start, Kevin (beatboxer) is very religious so one reason for church location is that, other reason might be churches have great acoustics so they are often used for classical concerts and Kevin is also classical cellist

Pentatonix tries to keep their songs at PG-13 level at worst, so yes, they do change the lyrics occasionally to tone them down a little. Their cover of Thrift Shop (another Macklemore and Lewis cover) also modifies the lyrics slightly - but unless you're very familiar with the original, you'll never even know it. And it's a hoot - but make sure to stay tuned for the outro!
