So interesting fact. A lot of Santa’s lore comes from Norse mythology and Clause de cinders or Cinder Clause. It was actually Thor and he would come on his birthday(the winter solstice) and enter through chimneys and leave gifts for children. So this movie dives into real Santa lore.
@@Mek_Alenes I mean it does. What I said is the most basic statement. There’s a lot more from Norse mythology and also Celtic mythology that is mixed in too
Is this somewhere we can read up on? because i thought Santa Claus is based on the germanic/german tradition of Saint Nikolaus, who is based on the turkish bishop who brought gifts to children. I could imagine tho, that the russian Father Frost is based on nordic myths because the Rus were vikings that settled down in the western russian area (as far as i remember).
@@KaySan666 so like I said in response to another comment what you are saying is also true. The lore of Christmas(the actual Catholic Christ-mass) comes from many sources both pagan and Christian like everything in Catholicism. They took the stories of Cinder Klus and the stories of St Nikolas and combined them to attract pagans to their faith.
The scene where they have Santa tied to the chair and are rifling through his magic bag is my favourite. It's so good, and the writing and performances are incredible. "You made your brother eat worms! THAT'S NAUGHTY!" Love it!
This is such a great christmas movie. I love how the wedding ring rolled right to the sledgehammer. Like Mrs Claus was helping him. One thing I was thinking after seeing this a couple times is what the next day was like. Getting rid of the bodies and cleaning up the house. They’re rich so they could probably do all that without the cops but if they had the cops come it would be fun listening to their stories about what happened and the look on the cops faces when they mention Santa taking the bad guys out.
i love this movie so much. My favorite thing about the press tour was David Harbour proposing a Violent Night Cinematic Universe with Oscar Isaac as the Easter Bunny and Pedro Pascal as the Tooth Fairy.
My favorite Christmas movie since Elf! Also *Fun History Lesson*, this Santa’s Viking backstory is ACTUALLY tied to the real origins of Christmas. Long before Christianity or Catholicism came into existence there was the pagan holiday of Yule (yes as in whenever you have heard of Yuletide) and when Christianity was starting to spread throughout Scandinavia they actually stole some of their rituals and holidays and made it their own. So Santa being a Viking actually makes perfect sense.🤣🤣🤣
Yea I remember learning this at school and yeah the viking backstory as fun as it is makes sense its great. Plus Santa's clothes back then were green not red !
Technically All-Father Odin was the first "Santa Claus" but yes, Christmas was Yuletide before Christianity adapted it to convert the "Northmen" to Christianity.
My 74-year-old mother and I watched this last Christmas and even she loved it (and she lives in church). Awesome movie that I’m so glad I bought as soon as it was available.
Great reaction to a new christmas movie classic. Btw, "Violent Night" was produced by DAVID LEITCH, who also produced "NOBODY", co-directed "JOHN WICK" and also made "ATOMIC BLONDE", "DEADPOOL 2" and "BULLETT TRAIN". A sequel has aiready been confirmed, including elves and Mrs. Claus. That part may be played by Noomi Rapace or Charlize Theron.
I couldn't agree more. I laughed so hard during this movie. It will be cool to see the backstory for all of Santa's tattoos. I like watching Christmas Vacation is ony list, along with the ones in your list.
The machine that the rope got thrown into where the bad guys get pulled in is called a snowblower. In areas where it snows 4-5 months out of the year, they're fairly common. This is my favorite Christmas movie of all time
This is like a mash of John Wick, Die Hard and Rambo all inside Santa. You may add Judge Dredd too! I was looking for a tactical Santa movie, it was time! Great video guys! 😎
37:30 this is the start of the sequence that sent our entire theater into a laughing frenzy. The one thing about this movie is how it uses the trope from home alone, die hard 2, a little bit of Christmas vacation. And it shows what actually would happen when those booby traps work from home alone
Santa is actually originally based on Odin being the gift bringer to children while riding Sleipnir google it, so based on lore yes he has Germanic and Celtic backgrounds through stories as well, but was originally based on Norse mythology hence why he has Norse tattoos. Also it would explain why he has been alive for 1100 years which matches up with when the Vikings were active.
Really enjoyed this movie in theaters! Never knew who David Harbour was until his role in stranger things and then being in the black widow movie! He’s an amazing actor and seems like such a good dude in real life.
Hi Nikki the reason why a lot of people leave the Christmas tree on to after the January 6th is because in the Spanish community we celebrate the three king that came to see God was on January 6th and each gave him one gift. Still annoyed they deleted this scene - which some have dubbed the movie's unofficial mid-credits scene where we see Santa (with his hammer) visiting an alcoholic dad and his toddler daughter. The daughter, don't worry, is perfectly safe and fast asleep in her cot with a present waiting by her pillow. Her dad wakes up from a drunken stupor to wrapped up coal placed amongst his beer cans, and Santa is there to tell him to get his life together for the sake of his daughter, drags his hammer along the floor and reminds him that he'll be checking in on him next year......
😂😂😂 The Nikki rant. We put our Christmas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving and we have a tradition to burn our lights into the New Year, so then it all comes down January 2nd. I do get irked when people are too early with Christmas and also still turning on their lights way into January. Like.. What?! LOL

John Leguizamo is an awesome actor and comedian. If you ever get a chance to watch his stand up check it out. He is hilarious
This movie was so good and surprising! I loved this movie so much
😂😂😂 The Nikki rant. We put our Christmas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving and we have a tradition to burn our lights into the New Year, so then it all comes down January 2nd. I do get irked when people are too early with Christmas and also still turning on their lights way into January. Like.. What?! LOL
David Harbour is phenomenal.
This movie ruled, so glad to see you're reacting to it.
