Hi CRT (Carol Rob and Tilly, obviously, not the Canal and River Trust :) ) One thing I would say is, with a Webasto or Eberspacher it's advisable (so my VERY trustworthy boat mechanic tells me) to run them for a bit fairly regularly..maybe once a fortnight or at least once a month. You don't have to run them for hours, maybe just 15-30 minutes. That gives them and the heating system a bit of a short workout. It may also highlight any problems before you may actually have to rely on it! I've just realised...I've caught up! Wooohooo! Although I will go back and look at some of the Liberty makeover videos with Anita to see what tips we can get for doing our own improvements on our boat :)
Thanks for the tip, Ronnie. I think we’ve neglected to do that, so we’ll start doing that tomorrow…just in case…and I’ll set up an automatic reminder! Cheers! CRT ♥️
Terrific, informative video. You guys make a great comedy double act! Carol, this week's free tip; if you want to stop Rob from breathing and steaming up the windows, I find a pillow on the face works quite well. Stay tuned for more helpful tips. See you soon, Chris (p.s. my Facebook is back up, so expect a friend request soon).
Love your vlogs, thankyou !! Narrowboats, love them just not brave enough to sell my bricks and mortar and buy one !! So I follow Liberty, and one or two other boaters. Keep the vlogs coming 😀
Hi Jayne - we’re really happy you like them! Maybe one day you’ll make the change to a life afloat! Maybe find a way to keep your home for future security…whatever you decide, we appreciate your comment! XO
Enjoyed this-thank you. We are in a marina with double glazed windows. I can assure you that we still have issues with the frames and condensation, even had ice three days ago (minus 7 outside). Solution is thermal break windows, however I was not prepared to pay the extra £££ to have these fitted. I agree, ten minutes with a micro fibre cloth is no real hardship!!
My tiny house on wheels has spray foam insulation and I agree, it is great for both winter and summer, I have a wood burning stove, they are messy, but I love the ambience it creates :) love Tilly’s face when you say treat ha ha :)
Thanks Serena - how lovely that you live in a tiny house on wheels! We agree about the ambience - seeing a warm glow from wood burning, plus the wonderful aroma…unbeatable for relaxing on a chilly day or night! 💜 Rob, Carol and Tilly (she gets a special T-R-E-A-T tomorrow…it’s a surprise but we’re going to record it for the channel! X
Thanks for the info, you have the warm bit well & truly sorted. Love that you've programmed the radiators not to come on at all! Hugs to the furry girl xx
Hi Annie Mac! We’re expecting snow this week, but we’ve been busy collecting fallen tree limbs so have plenty of fuel! Tonight is really mild and still- a bit like being in the eye of a tornado? We’ll see! Hugs and thanks as ever xox
You two are so great together, I don’t care what you talk about 😊. That was very interesting. I think I would want a multi-fuel stove as I love my wood stove. Great job….especiallyTilly! 🙏🤗❤️🐾 Kathy
I have had an 8kw multifuel log burner installed in my house and I have tried various different coals but the best by far is Columbian smokeless it burns for ages at a high temp and doesn't leave alot of ash it also makes a really good bed for logs
Hi Nathan, that sounds like great fuel - I’ll try to locate some up here in the North West of England - where are you located? Thanks for the suggestion! Best wishes Rob, Carol and Tilly ♥️
Hi Kath, thank you! Our next vlog is going to be much more about a typical day on the boat…but still very honest and hopefully entertaining and informative! Less sitting at the table, more ‘doing life’! Hugs xox
I really love these informative-style videos. Would you be able to do one on financing and saving up for a boat? Finance options etc as there is very mixed information about marine mortgages, etc? Also more information/dedicated video about the cost of living, if possible? Thanks ever so much for putting this channel together! Take care. William the greyhound says hi to Tilly! 🐾 🐾 xx
Hi Cheryl! Thanks for the kind comment but especially for the suggestion! We will put an episode together that covers just what you’re suggesting xo Hugs Carol, Rob and Tilly xox
Really enjoying your videos and the perspective you provide. Being in the US is unlikely I'll ever be on a narrowboat, but it's definitely on my bucket list. I'm just wondering why you drive on the left side of the road, but boat on the right side of the waterway?
Hi Dan, we’ve honestly no idea why we cruise on the American side of the canal! Recently we had a new hirer on a narrowboat pass us on the wrong side and it was very disorientating! We advised him of the rules and hopefully he didn’t collide with anyone else! Thanks for your kind comment! XOX
Here's the thing I don't understand, never having been on a narrowboat. So many boats seem to be fitted with central heating. As such, why is a fuel burning stove necessary? Is it more costly to run the central heating? Or can you only run it when the engine is running?
Hi Debba! It’s more common to find a solid fuel stove, partly historically (barges had coal and wood stoves in the boatmen’s cabins to cook on and keep the family warm). That was before central heating. The tradition has carried on, though few boats have the ‘range’ type of stoves the working canal boats used, because of the space they take up. Central heating operates regardless of whether the engine is running or not, but the ignition and water pump uses electricity, so drains the batteries over time, whereas a solid fuel stove uses zero electricity. Diesel fired central heating is sensitive to contaminants like water or diesel bug in fuel, so can be unreliable unless the fuel system is well maintained. The ignition and burning components and also the water pump are potential sources of failure, such that it’s fair to say the heat is less reliable from a central heating system than it is from a stove. I would say it’s more useful to have a stove in this small space than a central heating system, whereas in a house of several rooms, the opposite is true! Hope that answers your question? Hugs xox
Thanks Andrey - I think British people are descended from a lot of different ethnic groups and so you will see great diversity in faces here. Rob’s ancestry includes Russian/Finnish and Celtic tribes, Carol’s is mainly Scottish with some Irish and English. We are mainly mongrels here! XO
You are looking mighty fine on this one . Different kind of blog this time . I know it’s an older one .
Thanks Geoff - God bless you, bro 😎!
Winnie Wallace... There's nothing wrong with being cold occasionally. Tilly's got the right idea, stay cool, it's healthier.
Haha - agreed! Thanks Mark❤️

If you did, Eve, you’d be way more expert than us at keeping warm in winter! Thanks for watching and commenting xox
Ours is a mix of rockwool and poli. Its a right odd ball. She's also 29 this year!
I’ll bet she’s still cosy, Sara! We’ll deffo be stopping by when we go back up North! XO
Yes she is, think its rockwool in the sides and poli in the rest. ha.Be great to see you both when you do head this way x
